This was only meant to be an example of what the series would possibly be like. While they obviously went with a good actress for Willow in the end, I think Riff Regan would've been fine too. Maybe more apt, especially since Buffy's group is supposed to be a bunch of misfits rather than people who are just as attractive as the cheerleaders. Unfortunately the weight of the actresses involved was probably a deciding factor - how many overweight kids could've been inspired if Regan was Willow?
I believe joss wedon had the actors act it all out without him telling them what to do. So they did how they think think it is so posed to be done. so i guess he just wanted to see if the ppl are good for the part and see what talent they have to give.
They wanted someone who looked more like a kid, and with the quirky factor. Willow was meant to be a geek, but also very quirky, and funny. this actress is not amusing. Alyson always was. she's very good at comedy, and she is an epic actress. one of my faves

Xander's dialogue is ridiculously high-brow for a high school (American) student, which is cool. I can't imagine - at all - how the series would have evolved or even survived had Hannigan not been given the role of Willow.

@rosarylegend1 Um.. 90's is not that old, color films were made as back as 40's/50's. At 00:01 its written that this video doesn't has clear sound, is not for airing and was Revised on 05/03/96. It was really remastered because I watched the colored version of this on YouTube only. So that's why I asked 'what's with the color of THIS episode/video?'.
LOL Still fun. I can see why they didn't air this one though, it's a bit all over the place. omg this so weird just think this could have had the other willow on it instead of this one and then we would still think it was weird because we would have been used to the other. i love btvs have all the seasons and in my opinion they should have made more of them.

I don't know why people are hating on the actress for being fat. She's quite lovely if a little round. But acting wise she doesn't feel like Willow. She seems cheerful and nice enough, but she doesn't have the awkward but cute charm that everyone identifies with the character. I feel bad for actress, getting this close and then not making it, but I do prefer Alyson from the little bit I've seen.

omg this so weird just think this could have had the other willow on it instead of this one and then we would still think it was weird because we would have been used to the other. i love btvs have all the seasons and in my opinion they should have made more of them.

I actually liked this better in a few ways, more than the actual episode.
Joss Whedon is so freaking shallow, I swear to god!
All he EVER casts are pretty girls. And the ONE time there's an ordinary girl and what does he do? Recasts her for a prettier one and then gives HER a makeover to make her look ordinary.
