I just think it's really cool how they can use traditional chinese instruments to produce such varied musical pieces, integrating other cultures' sounds in it at the same time... :D

@InfinitiesObserver i have heard freedom from end to end several times. its core elements are that of a "silk and bamboo" ensemble with contemporary spins from other cultures. i'm not saying this music isn't great, i've thoroughly enjoyed it. but as with most music produced nowadays, this music has fallen route to a lot of pop music as of late, where it's just following a trend and the essence of this bands creation is a financial cash cow more than artistic creativity. but again, i'm loving it

No matter, it only shows the greatness of Turkish music - but nothing truly great is entirely done by one single individual/group. Newton sees farther as he stands on the shoulders of giants. 12Girls stand on shoulders of Turkish giants and demonstrate again that music can be universal. And sometimes artistic creativity needs financial cash cow to exist.

Now I've learned that it's also spelled as Şehnaz Longa and composed by Ottoman Turkish musician Santuri Ethem Efendi around 1855. As for "chinese brittany", I don't have enough knowledge of its background Brittish/French cultural/historic connotations to grasp your implications...

The band isn't totally gone. Most of the girls just left and went their separate ways. A few of them even formed a smaller group with Zhang Shuang.
The new 12 Girls Band is now called V12, and features a whole bunch of new musicians including some of the original girls that decided to stay. I am as disappointed and saddened by this news as any of their fans.
Who ever thinks that these girls play so bad, man, they so need 2 get a life. These ladies are awesome!! Anyone would love to be able to play like this and have their commitment to their hometown music.

yongngeetay, I support you. During my childhood, Japanese products were bad and easily break, but look at their quality today. I strongly believe Chinese products will improve. In fact, almost many things in my house are Made In China, and they're very reliable. Even my company uses PC and reliable servers (Dell, IBM, etc... are China manufactured). So nothing is wrong and we should go back to enjoy this music brought to us from China.

I don't care whether its made in China or wherever as long as the products is functional and worth the money. I wouldn't stress over it because I know it would be pointless to. And if I can be born again, I would want to be a chink again because guess what, I am proud to be one and I dont have any insecurities. You may not like being who you are but it doesnt mean you have to spread the hate. Enlighten yourself.
