Loved listening to The Joy Boys on the radio in Spain as a little girl. We didn't have TV in Spain, so we listened to the radio and loved this show! Never connected Willard Scott with the show until I saw this on You Tube as an adult!
As most commenters probably know, Ed Walker continues to have a radio show in Washington, DC - "The Big Broadcast" on WAMU, a show featuring old radio shows from "the golden years of radio" - the pre-television years. You can listen online at the WAMU website.
My dad took me and my sister to sit in on their show in the studio one time. It was neat to see "behind the curtain" at how they made all those sound effects and carried on. Good times.
OMG ! I remember the ORIGINAL broadcast of this, and (still) have it on a cassette with Max Robinson as the WTOP (TV) newscaster doing the story intro.
If it hadn't been for Walker & Scott I'd have made dean's list at G.W., 1965-69. As it turned out, I made the probation list twice, BUT IT WAS WORTH IT !!!
I used to love listening to this show back in the day. I know their theme song was customized for them, but I've heard it elsewhere (to introduce "Unknown Comic" on the Gong Show, for example). Is there a standard title for the song?
I never knew Ed Walker was on WPGC.

I saw the Joy Boys in action at WWDC one afternoon. That was a day to remember.

The Joy Boys were great...I can remember listening to them as a six year old curled up on the floor listening to our family's radio in 1958.

They were geniuses. Compared to what's on today--they still are.

Willard Scott actually had some hair back then!
