@hybridtheory3 - yes, although these days I usually prefer guitars that have more of a pure "wood" sound (like the Matons and Cole Clarks). The 000CXE has a very good sound in it's own right, nice and bright, and plays pretty easy (although this one gives me occasional problems with the high E slipping off the neck... maybe that's just the way I play causing problems, not sure). I'd recommend it.
Thanks for this. Some people don't realize how difficult it is to play music composed for a piano on an acoustic guitar. You really did a nice job with this.
@IlikeCheese4ever - thanks, glad you like it. I don't have tabs, but I'm playing an arrangement by Ed Gerhard and there may be some tabs out there under his name. Thanks again!
that is really amazing, thanks for sharing... just ordered the same guitar... recommendations for strings and/or acoustic amps that aren't that expensive? thanks a lot and keep posting!
@mikebbm3 - hi, thanks for the kind comments. Congrats on ordering the Martin! I've been using James Pearse light strings, but also like Elixir... both are good choices. For acoustic amps, I've got a little Roland AC-60 that seems to do the job (and is relatively lightweight). Thanks again for listening, best of luck and have fun with that new guitar!
Is your guitar made in MEXICo??? I've the same guitar and it made in MEXICO. The old MARTINS 000CXE was made in USA. Do you know the diference between? Thanks. PD: You're a great guitar player.
@damabrazo - hi, thanks for the kind comments. Sorry I thought I responded already, my bad... I checked the label in the soundhole and this one is made in the USA. Thanks again!
@ukedreamer - yes, great guitar. Lately I've been playing with it tuned down a whole step and for some reason that sounds even better to my ear, more full and rich (I recorded a fingerstyle version of "Silent Night" with it down a step, on my YT Channel if you're interested). Anyway, thanks so much for stopping by and listening -- best of luck, and keep playing!
ic thanks, i'm an owner of two martins d28/d35 which i love. but my playing style has changed and i do more higher on the neck now and want a cutaway. not wanting to spend a ton and deciding between on of these 00 or 000, and the low end spruce top and sapelle b/side which is about 1g(different model altogether). i'm looking at these as i'd mostly use on stage just for the things i work high on the neck. i'm guessing its the pickup and not a mic you recorded with......thanks again for reply
Wow that was really nice. It sounded great. I have that same guitar. I think this great responds well to effects like chorus, reverb, phasers, etc. and your video expresses this very good.
@ThopsDK - Thanks, my cover is based on Ed Gerhard's arrangement; the tab of that arrangement is available at the site musicnotes (dot com slash sheet music ... YT doesn't allow me to post actual url links here) and other sites. Take care, and thanks again.
@Mattguitarman1234 -- hi, thanks for the encouraging comment. I use Logic Express, which is a step up from Garage Band (although very similar) and a step below the full version of Logic. Thanks again!
@han23v -- thanks for the kind comments. I like the Martin, it's obviously different in sound and feel than their solid wood guitars (and a lot less expensive), but I like the brightness of the sound and it's an easy neck to play. I recommend it.
@raidereddie - thanks listening and for your kind comment. For this recording, I just ran the guitar straight into my Mac (through a Motu audio interface), no amp.
@iDEBAYtv - thanks man, I appreciate the comments. The guitar is cool, I got it second-hand a few years ago so it didn't set me back too much. Thanks again!
@jnhnews - thanks, I really appreciate the kind words. I think it's a great guitar, produces good sound for both live and recorded playing, and easier to play than the more expensive Martins. Best of luck!
You play Gerhard's arrangement of "Moon River" wonderfully! I'd love to hear you play some of Ed's other arrangements, particularly "The Water is Wide" and "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry." Thanks so much for sharing.
@Bluehill29 - thanks, I'm a big fan of Ed's arrangements and in particular love his take on "The Water Is Wide" so I may attempt that one. Thanks again for listening and for the kind comments!
@vernew - Thanks! Still love the Maton but was noodling around with this Martin (nice guitar, warm sound for a composite/hybrid) and thought I'd record the video with it. Thanks again!
@rhodesguitar2 - thanks, really appreciate the comments. I hope this helps if you're interested in learning this arrangement, it's become one of my favorites tunes to play on acoustic guitar.
So Excellent and Satisfying on so many Levels! Musically, and all the details of recording, sound and video , you are the textbook on how this should be done. what an inspiration to all.
@BoeckmannLudwig - Bernd, thank you so much for the compliments, always means so much coming from such a talented guitarist like you. This arrangement from Ed Gerhard really touched me as a beautifully simple way of interpreting the song for guitar, he's really a masterful arranger and musician. Thank you again.
