4,600 SHP (X 4), right there! Plenty of power. The plane is litterally pulled through the air with the amount of power/torque that the engines, & props put out. The only Orions that still have the original black nose radome & beige over white paint scheme are a handful of EP-3's.
Ever see the Koninklijke Marine guys fly? (Netherlands) Those guys are psychotic. I was limited to 200 feet with the radalt on, they fly 50 feet off the water at 240 knots with approach flaps (18 degrees) DAMN!
@vetteracer65 how the f*** do you spell "beige"? 16440 Gloss Gull Gray... No where near "beige".. Same gray as when they were white over gray in the mid 60's to mid 80's when they started going to the tactical gray,("haze gray")
Those Allison T-56's produce over 4,600 shaft HP apiece, & there's 4 of them. You do the math. They're faster than people think. I know, because I work on them everyday, in a VP squadron.
That aircraft is the very reason you sleep safe every night, my friend. Remember the cold war? Khruschev kept track of his submarines by asking where the American P-3s were operating.
Realy Brilliant sound i LOVE it ^^

I see one of those almost once a week doing touch n' goes at BTV. Kinda cool to watch them running around.

Landing/approach is 18 degrees.

I was close, hey, I sat in the back lol!
vetteracer65 4 years ago
Actually takeoff/approach is 18 degrees, land flaps is 40 degrees :-)
vetteracer65 4 years ago
As long as the pilots land the damn thing! Besides, flap knowledge is for the FEs!

I couldn't get a good look at the tail feathers, but I think it was U S.
vetteracer65 4 years ago
I was wrong! It's New Zealand. You can see the kiwi on the fuselage.
vetteracer65 4 years ago
yea, i figured it must have been aussies, canadian or new zealand, i think the u.s. uses an older style paint scheme on their orions
UNSOF 4 years ago
Actually, the U S has both. Some are still the haze gray, but most are the beige color, now. how the f*** do you spell "beige"?
vetteracer65 4 years ago
lol, do some operate the old 60s era looking white and grey with the black nose?
UNSOF 4 years ago
No, that's way gone. As I said, most are either the haze gray or that new beige color. The new Boeing P-8 Poseidon MMAs will be all haze gray.

We're (Canadian) a darker color of grey.

405 knots vNe, that's 468mph. Not bad for a lumbering sky pig. And we can stay airborne for 14 hours. :-)
