@97regalbass Yea there will be a code on the tire that let's you know the tire's speed capabiity. So say your tire says for example 225/55/17, that's your width/sidewall/rim diameter. After those numbers there will be something like 95H. That's where you want to look. These are just examples. The 95 is the load index which let's you know the load capability, and the letter H will let you know the speed capability.
@drivebyknights never been beat by any cavy in my 97 GTP. not saying there aren't some out there that could, but why waste the money making that engine fast when doing so is making you spend more money on a replacement engine 50k miles down the road? @drivebyknights assuming both are stock, cavy has to push around 17 pounds per HP (i averaged weights since I don't know what year yours is) and the GTP is around 14 per HP. Power to weight ratio, the GTP wins. Again, not saying there aren't cavaliers that can't beat my GTP, just saying I haven't come across one and wouldn't see the point of making one that fast. :)

@sciullo779 I think you're forgetting the massive leaps being made in power these days. My '94 ranger 4.0 makes 225lb.ft., and 160HP (though that's because of a low redline) whereas the newer SOHC version makes 210HP and 245lb.ft of torque, and is still ancient technology.
Manufacturers don't like doing things on warranty, so GM chose to only have the engine use 6 lbs of boost, whereas the WRX makes about 15 pounds. Pulley a GTP to 15 pounds (plus plugs/thermostat) and you've got some fun.

@sciullo779 They have terrible camshafts in them. They deactivate down to 4 cylinders, thats why the HP ratings are shitty. Also they are tuned on 87 octane.

you have to realize that it takes a lot of work to tune an engine, to make a lot of horsepower. it does take effort to make a V6 to hit 300 HP. technology back then in 1990's isn't what we call superb and for a V6 to make about 250 HP with supercharger assist and with barely any tuning is damn good in my books.
there are performance kits out there from the very company that makes these engines because they know people like you are lurking about.

@jwhite270062 sleeper, very much so...cheap not really. i had cat back exhaust, CAI, t-stat, and competition plugs and wire. and it was about to go in the the shop for headers, coils, new S/C pulley and a S/C Port. I totaled the car 2 days before it was going in. total i has invested up to that point was just under 1000, and if i had the chance to the rest i was looking at a total of almost 5000 in it. with the car i have now, i getting more bang and the same sleeper feel

i never had a chace to take the GTP to a strip, but i would have been high to mid 13s. i now have a 2007 CTS-V (still a great sleeper), with a video of its Dyno run uploaded on here. Car will run a low 13 to upper 12s (if i can get traction). car will spin the wheels though 4th gear. and it has already made a couple new Camaro SS feel bad.

@DannyAlkhateeb well my friends 98 you see in the video has almost 200k and he hasnt had to replace anything too extensive, so yea, you could say they are reliable, u can also get up to 30mpg on the highway if you treat them right. biggest things to look for i can think of is check the intake and valve cover gaskets
@jwhite270062 you will never get 30mpg from a GTP the thing gets less 30mpg running on idle. It requires premium 91+ all the tme and rust very easily if not taken care. None the less, the GT or GTP do not have major problems like most US cars do. No engine or tranny problems unless you don't do maintenance,ball joints and arms are build strong as well but its a heavy car.You will not regret getting a GTP or GT for that matter, and you won't find cheaper supercharged cars in its class.
@Arlind86 i personally have gotten 29mpg on 91 octane, all factored in on one full tank of gas, with in town driving, highway driving, and the undieing fact of not being to light on the pedal, so i would have to say i was getting 31-32+ on the highway, in town kinda sucks gas the way i drive tho :(
@Arlind86 If you keep fluids in it and the oil changed and injectors clean you will ALWAYS get 30+ MPG, I average 33 MPG with my 99, and its got 160k on it.
@regalgs1 I think you guys are giving your GTP's too much credit when it comes to MPG. To say the gtp gets over 30mpg is a joke in all due respect. Any 2.0 liter car hardly gets you over 30 mpg. Heck my 750 ninja gets 35 on good days. The normal gt gets you 27 on highway, the gtp gets you a bit less than that and premium isnt cheap.But no way you can get 30 mpg on GTP, especially mixed with city. I have done full tune up and new supercharger on my gtp and gets you close to 26-27 not more.
@Arlind86 You have to take into consideration where you live, here in iowa, altitude is not high at all, and almost every GTP on the road here gets 30, Like i said with my downpipe and intake i was getting 33 average, and the best i've done since then with the headers now is 38, havent seen that number since the injectors were cleaned but it is do-able

Yes, this is in my 2004 GTP that I currently own. Sure, if you run @ WOT the entire time you'd never get 30+mpg. Not even in a Prius.

@DannyAlkhateeb one of the common problems with the pontiac,buick suppercharged motors was that they had a coupler inside the snout of the supercharger that wears out and starts making somewhat of a knocking noise at idle.it is a cheap part to fix(12 dollars) and if you do a little homework on them,its a pretty easy fix to take the snout apart and replace it.by the way,on top of that couple,you will also need to replace the oil in it and use a little sealant the kit comes with.the kit is $29
@truthisnotalwaysnice you know how much the 2000 has? my brother bought one and put a racing computer in it,high flow manifolds, specter filter and built his own custom cold air intake to go with it. he got rid of the cats and ran 3in. exhaust from motor all the way back and installed a 3/4 pully on his supercharger pushin around 12lbs. it has 300+ hp. we really dont know how much. i think it started with 260 or so. we raced a v8 gt mustang and stayed with it and pulled ahead of it at 140.mph
regardless of what the factory states, we both weighed our cars at a grain elevator and the 98 weighed in over 200lbs more then the 04. and since this day every time we race we basically trade off wins, we have been pretty neck and neck

I tell you, I had an '02 Impala (on my page too), worst investment ever, died at 120K miles with a bad trans solenoid, and a blown head gasket.

@sciullo779 They have terrible camshafts in them. They deactivate down to 4 cylinders, thats why the HP ratings are shitty. Also they are tuned on 87 octane.

you have to realize that it takes a lot of work to tune an engine, to make a lot of horsepower. it does take effort to make a V6 to hit 300 HP. technology back then in 1990's isn't what we call superb and for a V6 to make about 250 HP with supercharger assist and with barely any tuning is damn good in my books.
there are performance kits out there from the very company that makes these engines because they know people like you are lurking about.

@jwhite270062 sleeper, very much so...cheap not really. i had cat back exhaust, CAI, t-stat, and competition plugs and wire. and it was about to go in the the shop for headers, coils, new S/C pulley and a S/C Port. I totaled the car 2 days before it was going in. total i has invested up to that point was just under 1000, and if i had the chance to the rest i was looking at a total of almost 5000 in it. with the car i have now, i getting more bang and the same sleeper feel

i never had a chace to take the GTP to a strip, but i would have been high to mid 13s. i now have a 2007 CTS-V (still a great sleeper), with a video of its Dyno run uploaded on here. Car will run a low 13 to upper 12s (if i can get traction). car will spin the wheels though 4th gear. and it has already made a couple new Camaro SS feel bad.

@DannyAlkhateeb well my friends 98 you see in the video has almost 200k and he hasnt had to replace anything too extensive, so yea, you could say they are reliable, u can also get up to 30mpg on the highway if you treat them right. biggest things to look for i can think of is check the intake and valve cover gaskets

@jwhite270062 you will never get 30mpg from a GTP the thing gets less 30mpg running on idle. It requires premium 91+ all the tme and rust very easily if not taken care. None the less, the GT or GTP do not have major problems like most US cars do. No engine or tranny problems unless you don't do maintenance,ball joints and arms are build strong as well but its a heavy car.You will not regret getting a GTP or GT for that matter, and you won't find cheaper supercharged cars in its class.

@regalgs1 I think you guys are giving your GTP's too much credit when it comes to MPG. To say the gtp gets over 30mpg is a joke in all due respect. Any 2.0 liter car hardly gets you over 30 mpg. Heck my 750 ninja gets 35 on good days. The normal gt gets you 27 on highway, the gtp gets you a bit less than that and premium isnt cheap.But no way you can get 30 mpg on GTP, especially mixed with city. I have done full tune up and new supercharger on my gtp and gets you close to 26-27 not more.

@Arlind86 ~ WRONG about 30mpg. I drove from MD to NC (255 miles one way) and got 32mpg doing 80mph most of the way. I even top 100mph several times. I used the A/C a few times too. Yes, this is in my 2004 GTP that I currently own. Sure, if you run @ WOT the entire time you'd never get 30+mpg. Not even in a Prius.

@DannyAlkhateeb one of the common problems with the pontiac,buick suppercharged motors was that they had a coupler inside the snout of the supercharger that wears out and starts making somewhat of a knocking noise at idle.it is a cheap part to fix(12 dollars) and if you do a little homework on them,its a pretty easy fix to take the snout apart and replace it.by the way,on top of that couple,you will also need to replace the oil in it and use a little sealant the kit comes with.the kit is $29

@truthisnotalwaysnice you know how much the 2000 has? my brother bought one and put a racing computer in it,high flow manifolds, specter filter and built his own custom cold air intake to go with it. he got rid of the cats and ran 3in. exhaust from motor all the way back and installed a 3/4 pully on his supercharger pushin around 12lbs. it has 300+ hp. we really dont know how much. i think it started with 260 or so. we raced a v8 gt mustang and stayed with it and pulled ahead of it at 140.mph

My Camry has 211K miles now, is faster than this POS (don't believe me? watch the 0-75 video on my page), and the only thing that's gone bad is due to mis-care by the previous owner.. they never had the trans fluid flushed for 190K when it recommends it every 60K. I tell you, I had an '02 Impala (on my page too), worst investment ever, died at 120K miles with a bad trans solenoid, and a blown head gasket.

Its been done many times, look for vids on youtube, the speedo only goes to 110 but the needle wraps around
