This has DEFINITELY been cut/edited!! In a version I watched on T.V. the guy who calls his behaviour "un-bloody English" says "73 caps for England", not "73 international appearences. And I'm pretty sure some of David Kelly's lines early in part 2 were different as well - opened it instead of this by mistake!!

This version of The Longest Yard was okay but seemed very lack luster and forgettable compared to the original. They ran it one day on cable. When I saw the title and read the description it was easy to see it was a British version of Longest Yard. Being a big fan of the original I sat and watched it out of curiosity. I think it could have been better if they had played rugby instead of soccer. I can only that guess soccer is just bigger than rugby in the U.K.

The Longest Yard may have came out in the early 70s and earlier than Mean Machine, but no shitty American version can be better than the English ones. I mean the remake of the Longest yard in 2005 was really funny and had bigger stars, but Mean Machine was the funniest and the best!!!!!!!

I heard about this. It is in fact a British Take of The Longest Yard. Another Similairty is that Vinnie played Soccer (as we Americans call it.) just as Burt Reynolds played (American) Football at Florida State University. BTW: The original 1974 Version starring Burt Reynolds is better than Adam Sandler's 2005 Remake.  The Original is one of those "Guy Flicks" that every American Male between 30 and 70 has seen at least once.

There were two the longest yards. 1974 and 2005. The 2005 one was based totally from mean machine, just with americans. It was shit in my opinion.. But the 1974 was a classic :D

@bencedars Escape To Victory was made in 1981 and The Longest yard in 1974. So unless the Director Of Longest Yard had a time machine to travel through time from the early 70s to 1981 to see Escape to Victory then back to the 70s I doubt Longest Yard was a remake of Escape to Victory.
