  • Hey Marty, I just want to say your a pretty good teacher. I started to watch your videos and learn diffrent ways to play blues notes and the 5 major pentitonic scales and I just want to say thanks for what you are doing. Keep making videos and keep rockin and rollin.

  • Marty you just rule!!!!

  • Marty do you use any overdrive pedal for this sound?

  • This is a great song to listen to and play. It makes you light up when you finally get it down. Took me several pauses and rewinds, Marty was so into jamming sometimes he forgot he was teaching. Haha.

  • It really feels good just listening it

  • ssllooww ddoowwnn

  • doesnt get any better than stevie ray!

  • @theYAMZY1 dang right!

  • I need GHS Fast Fret !!

  • oh its called a 'double cluster' lol

  • i fuckin love that song, marty love's it too :D

  • 7:56

  • Dude... I like the way you teach.. thanks for taking the time...

  • Stevie ray was an absolute legend.

  • This guy opened a lot of doors for me, thanks

  • The "THUMB", that wonderful appendage that we humans are all blessed with is SOOOOOOOOO integral for any good funky blues. The E was made to be played with that stubby little non finger. Yet most hide it in shame (chuckle) behind the neck! Pull that little bugger out of its socket stretching it around that stick and learn the secret that eludes most.

  • marty pls a full lesson, there isn't 1 on you tube :(

  • I've got to know what kind of pickups and gear you are using on this. Is that a custom strat? nice tutor by the way !!

  • Hmm... Seems simple enough.... HOLY SHIT THOSE ARE DOUBLE NOTES?! O_O

Okay.. Challenge accepted. This is gonna be my new song to play to impress people

  • @StryderHeap

Lol, get a loop pedal as well then...

  • @rchave I have an effects processor.. What I don't have is the skill Marty has

  • @StryderHeap

There's a lot of skill needed too. I guessed the "DOUBLE NOTES?!" you referred to were where he looped the intro. Could be misleading if you were trying to learn to play it all together.

  • Texas blues is the best..thanks Marty!

  • this looks wicked fun fun to play but its gunna take alot practice i could tell within the first little clip

  • thankk youu!!

  • Marty, thank you so much man. And you can never have too much TX blues!

  • Would you please do twisted sister - we not going to take it. pleasee

  • Thank you for the all the love you're passing our way. You rock

  • and what about the bass with the thumb :)

  • thanks marty!

  • yes!!! Marty you've answered my prayers with this song...

anyways thanks Marty... I've learned so much from you videos and now i can jam with people that have been doing this for decades and actually keep up

  • i waited for this

  • Comment removed

  • I appreciate your videos very much. We all might be able to learn the notes he played but no one can replicate the direct connection SRV had from his soul to his guitar, no one!

  • Please more! Do a lesson on Stevies cover of Little Wing?

  • Groovy!

  • are those texas specials?

  • would love to see you do a lesson on little wing please :)!

  • not to get too picky, but the hammer on riff you are talking about at 4:51 isn't a hammer-on, he's doing a flat 5 shape slide from fret 11 on the d string and fret 12 on the g string up to fret 12 on the d string and fret 13 on the g string, just thought you'd like that, it' slighty more dissonant sounding and all around bad-ass

  • awesome. THANK YOU!

  • Well I finished school a week ago when this video was uploaded, i think it's a sign!

time to get the ol' guitar out !

this summer is gonna be sweeeeeet

  • @_@ WOW!!

  • maybee you could make some more tutorials of slash's solo songs like ghost ore something like that and also some RHCP songs would be very nice!!!

  • Excellent

  • these are basically re hasshed hendrix riffs :) poor old stevie never knew hwho stevie was :/

  • @paranorma1palace ''Good artists copy great artists steal''....picasso

  • @paranorma1palace yes and Hendrix got them licks from other blues legends before him. So whats you point?? Get a life..nobody..

  • @gigicalifornia

hendrix borrowed the octaves probably from les paul, and some other riffs from chuck berry even, bt when he plays them he sounds like hendrix, not hendrix trying to sound like les paul or hendrix trying to sound like chuck berry, my point is valid and you show your ignorance in your attitude, stevie was a great guitarist but never managed to escape from trying to sound like jimi, thats just my fucking opinoin if thats ok with you, equal nobody

  • @paranorma1palace Les Paul?? LOL r u kidding me?? That's your ingnorant opinion and yours only...everyone can hear the difference between Hendrix and SRV. SRV developed a completely different sound than Hendrix. Now get that poop out of your ears.

Btw..you have to learn your music history...Hendrix stole lots of riffs from blues/ rnb guitarists. But thats ok he made it his own like SRV did. Read some books before commenting bs on YT.

  • @gigicalifornia

yes les paul was one of the first if not the first exponent of octaves, your wrong, and yes we all learn riffs from other guitarists, but imho stevie sounds like a third rate pub guitarist with a hendrix fixation, i prefer the real thing myself but hey wtf do i know, ive only played for 30 yrs

  • @paranorma1palace 30 yrs? Too bad you haven't learned a lot brother...musicians don't diss each other and brag around how many years they play...wanabee. Now go back to your basement and play some hendrix tunes....and stay there for worldssake.

  • @gigicalifornia

i didnt brag, in fact i sad wtf do i know, i didnt diss him, i said it as a shame he never got over his fixation and found his own sound, most guitarists have a hendrix period, but we get through it, he just never, its not all bad, but at the end of the day hes not original at all, and if im going to listen to that type of music il listen to jimi, band of gypsies live at the fillmore east go listen to that say no fkin more, why take peoples opinions so seriosly was he ur dad ?

  • @paranorma1palace im a huge hendrix fan. but srv is the man. he found his own. its natural for a guitarist to admire hendrix and srv. they were the titans of the axe

  • @Escribble22

its a great tut and they are cool riffs. i was merely pointing out they arent neccesarily really stevies :) i dont class stevie as on the same planet as hendrix tbh, jimi has lots om imitators but no one really ever gets it, and to spend a lifetime trying to do so is futile imho, even hendrix was evolving as a player before he died, i expect stevie would have as well, he never got time, so all i really hear are crude hendrix impersonations :)

  • @paranorma1palace well honest to god i used to have the same opinion because i can hear plenty of licks from some of hendrix's songs. alot from axis bold as love tho. but stevie was still his own. his agressive style of play for the blues is what made him who he was. plus he was more of an albert king person so he got alot of his licks from him. just enjoy what he did that was different. i wish some jimi lessons would come up. i only know about ten of his songs
