  • Mafia 2 :)

  • @MsExclamationPoint Yes Etta is a legend and when she sings her blues they have an effect but Beyonce did no wrong when she sang the same song because it was a different song sung from a different place from where Etta sang it. Etta was bitter and everyone like her is too. Beyonce gave praise to Ms. James and Beyonce preformed it and her very well in the film. Etta even said she just wanted to preform her song which is sad because they just went to the person who played Etta, but Etta was out t

  • wow. this is some real history for u!!! Amazing!!

  • From an age of great music

  • The guy who is talking with the super deep voice was verryyy handsomee! :)

  • @ValleyGirlJess Sherman Garnes. Died from heart problems.

  • If I found you smoking drugs I will killed you!

  • @juan58102 I love your classical sentence construction.

  • the guy in the back is hott

  • The band cannot play this music. Whether they were too old, too stupid, or what, I don't know. Probably, it was to "de R&B it". The "rock" beat was being played on R&B stations for years by 1956. In any event, Rock itself was well ingrained, though still resisted, by 1956. Elvis had been around a year or so, "Rock Around the Clock", 1954. Listen to the recording to get a real feel for how "rockin" this song really is.

  • @unabnats Agreed. They were probably all session muscians with only a day or two to prepare. The ending is pure schlock. However, the historical import of this video, alone, makes it great; two Frankies, one enduring a career of 75 years, introducing a gifted kid who's career only lasted just over a decade.

  • Its good to see that there are 1,998,986 more people than me who like this music!

  • 2:35 GAY, LOL

  • @toith What are you talking about? This is a great song!

  • It's amazing how much better than

  • My grandpa and uncle was at this show they were offered spots with the whites because they were korea vets they turned it down and enjoyed the show way more with "their own kind"

  • is he dead

  • @nazizombieahallic10 yes he is..he died in 1968 at age 25 from drug overdose

  • @rocketman577 He's buried in St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx

  • Very polite young man he is.

  • Sang like a bird!

  • @KatorAbaagu by 1965, tis "doo wop" style was very "out". I believe "see you in september", from 1966, was the last of the original DA WA songs. There was a revival movement in the early 70's. Even that long ago, these songs, some less than 10 years old, were called "oldies". That revival movement led to "American Graffitti", which led to "Happy Days". A sad demise. Why a "boy band" doesn't cover this, I'll never know.

  • Sing it brother, what would we do without black entertainment to enrich all our lives.

    Think about it !

  • Movie is currently on Netflix

  • @MrPurple0 That's what brought me here lol I'm starting to love Doo-Wop.

  • @MrPurple0 i just saw it lol

  • imagine if this kid would have lived longer how much of a sensation he would be? he would be right up there with michael jackson, elvis presley not that he wasnt good but a longer career would have got him in the history books

  • @billslonghorns33 - actually, his career was on the way down by 1957 and he died 11 years later because no one was interested in an adult singing Frankie Lymon. There are recordings of him with his "mature" voice here on youtube and he's quote good! But no one wanted to work with his changing voice and no one was interested in seriously marketing him as a grown-up singer ... Stevie Wonder was fortunate in that regard.

  • I wish that our African American performers of today could equal the music of the African American ARTISTS of the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's. These talented young men and woman were phenomenal. Yes, there was some tragedy but all in all what greatness.

  • @lordwoodbridge They all were addicted to drugs and died of drugs. Were abusive to women and lived shady lives.Yeah, that's what we want our African American singers to do. We want them to follow in these singers footsteps. If i can recall, Frankie Lymon died of heroin overdose. Yeah, Beyonce needs to do the same thing. What The FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?

  • @NotMyBirthday I think he means the musical abilities.

"could equal the MUSIC of the African American ARTISTS of the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's."

  • @NotMyBirthday Actually Herman Santiago is still alive.

  • @lordwoodbridge HOW TRUE! I've been sayin the same for the longest. I also wish those in the music industry today would recognize the legends for who and what they are...I was shocked that Beyonce verbally challenged Etta James. Etta didn't have to show all of her goods and still took the music industry by storm. Beyonce cannot say the same

  • @MsExclamationPoint It was Etta that physically childishly challenged Beyonce. All beyonce did was say she inspired her and done a movie as well as the songs that vocally and emotionally rivaled Etta's original. Increase the peace, dead the arrogance, clear the ears and the eyes and talk down on singers talents who do not rival beyonce, lets face the woman is an ICON and can sing and perform most of the artists of most generations out of the water.

  • @HearWithoutPrejudice Etta, being the ledend that she is, had every right to say what she had to say about Beyonce jacking up her song. BEYONCE DID MESS IT UP! NO ONE can sing Etta's songs like Etta can. Beyonce almost made me not like the song anymore by the way she sang it. Beyonce should have stayed in her place. It has nothing to do with arrogance unless you are referencing Beyonce. As far as Etta is concerned, IT WAS ABOUT RESPECT. She is a legend or Christ sakes.

  • @lordwoodbridge why not artists in general? In all honesty Beyonce, India arie, d'angelo, lauryn hill, erykah badu all artists to have come out over last 20 years are icons, and black.

  • @lordwoodbridge black artists have to work twice as hard for half the recognition, your comment is exhibit A

  • @lordwoodbridge I agree, but it goes for just about every hyped artist today. Today's performers is all about appearance, back the then it was about talent!

  • @lordwoodbridge Fuck you.

  • @lordwoodbridge "African American performers of today"? You mean those ugly monkeys on YouTube homepage?

  • @Jamamnedarba Wat u talkin bout monkeys??

  • @Jamamnedarba

A cowardly soul you are, I bet every time you see a black person you look at the ground, scared to make eye contact. But all of a sudden you're brave on the net. Damn shame, I don't blame you though I blame you stupid parents for raising you like that. smh

  • @87alock Why would I be scared to make eye contact with a "person" who hasn't gained my respect? And how aren't you the brave one?

  • @lordwoodbridge Hey lordwood, there is still BLUES and R + B.. and its pretty great. Not just singin the oldies. Rock on.. we do need more good stuff, and more support for SEARcHIN for it.. Try internet radio. Or check out clubs, it can be ok if its not for kids only!

  • What an amazing voice, a true gift! It's interesting to see raw talent back then and not this computer generated crap we have today...

  • Lymon later decided to start a solo career, but without the doo-wop sound of his backup singers, he was not successful. After several years of heroin addiction, he died of an overdose in 1968 at the age of twenty-five. TRUE FACT

  • watching the movie now

  • why do birds sings so gay? lol

  • @janniwheeler that means why do birds sing so happy or happily

  • @gta4viceman I know. old english definition. but, technically; i mean gay. lol. Anyways, i'm LMAO everytime i hear this song. LOL

  • @janniwheeler so gay as in so happy lol this is old music u gotta remember that

  • Great interview!!!!! Very humorous..

  • Does anyone hear how the band and group don't seem to be quite in the right key?

  • It is devastating to become a has-been for anyone, but especially for those who are still young when it happens. Frankie Lyman was one of the youngest. So sad.

  • so im assuming he wasnt introduced yet to heron......

  • hey does anyone know where i can find this live performance without all the talking in the middle please would really help thanks :)

  • American Idol.... Pardon me as that may degrade this vocal performance, the Real American Idol... Frankie Lymon.

  • Frankie's voice and charisma to this day have yet to be replicated. Yes Michael that means you too, without question one of the greatest voices to reach the masses, Michael Jackson the king of pop on the music scene Lil' Frankie Lymon still holds the crown at only thirteen. R.I.P Frankie god bless

  • YEP HOPE SHE DOES BURN IN HELL!

  • R.I.P.

  • he sounds like mike j when he was a child. beautiful talent gone to waste

  • Amen, Frankie.

  • this is what i call music

  • I LOVE THIS SONG BUT IN GROOVESHARK THEIR VOICES R HIGHER WAIT WAT HAPPENED TO HIM!!!!!!!!??????????

  • @Linetta41 darling boys voices change. unfortunately for Frankie esp. because when his voice changed he was rejected by America - they wanted the high voice they were used to - hence the tragic death of heroin overdose at 25! He had been an addict since he was 15. Introduced to it by a woman twice his age. Hope she is burning in hell.

  • Just Say No. - Nancy Reagan

  • sad thing is they probably had to leave through the back door and couldn't eat in the resturants...that same crowd that is jocking them while they are on stage would shit their pants if lymon and company moved into the neighborhood.if they seen those cheesy sweaters with the big "T" floating up the block they would be like "chucky..grab the shot gun and blow those "boys" off the face of the earth...kill those jigs!! but once lymon shakes his booty and sings on stage, everything is fine.

  • @thebabycakes71 Samething applies today, its just in modern form..rich rappers rapping about nothing. entertaining the same crowd...now really is there a such thing as "white boy rap"..?..no racist?

  • @thebabycakes71 you should keep eating cakes...you still live in the past..come out of it..but without the cakes..

  • @thebabycakes71

    So dramatic...

  • @thebabycakes71 God talk about over thinking a fucking youtube video bro, what does any of that have to do with the song? Why is there always constantly someone on these videos trying to talk racism. Like fuck, get a life or at least learn to enjoy music.

  • r they really singing

  • fuck heroin

  • Present Generation LOL :]

  • Such an incredible musician, composer, performer and that one of kind voice. His agents should have kept the Teenagers together instead of making him a solo act. That is what led to his downfall, addiction to heroin, and his death at 25. The Teenagers could have been around for ten or fifteen years with dozens of hits! He had the voice, the moves and the charisma.......

  • @EarnestTeaBass what happened to him?

  • @ellieoroberto aww seriously?:(

  • @ellieoroberto Heroin overdose.

  • i have a question for the older crowd. Did anyone know any of the teenagers or attend any of their concerts(on their short ride of fame.)?
