Actually there's been some cases of thinkpads survivng 200 degrees celsius in an over, when an officer hid his laptop in the oven in case of robbery. The CD drive malfunctioned though.
Thinkpads are like armored veichles - They'll take some, but not alot.
@edwardqiu I have an IBM Thinkpad that survived 10 years in a wagon in my garage where the temperature sometimes went as low as -10F and up to 90F, just opened it up a few months ago, screen works and keyboard works, has Windows 95 installed and can read/write floppies and read cd's just fine. No errors, no dead battery, no nothing. WOW.
@retronuggetdev 90F is like 30C that's not that bad. I play on my pc in the summer at 40C. and low temp does not affect pc's,even if it's in use, as long as it's not condensing.
@DoReMiForever as long as they don't have ANY plastic parts, than yea I guess you could put it in an oven at 200*C but the screen contains plastic and the liquid cristal would dilate at that temp. So that's why I wouldn't believe it. But hey maybe they use new technologies.
And I was saying that misleading commercials are illegal. :P
@DoReMiForever No, the Chinese Lenovo bought IBM's permission to produce Thinkpads and some-other products. Because IBM wasn't making any money out of Thinkpad. Lenovo started off with the product name IBM before using Lenovo on Thinkpads. So Thinkpads were being produces by Lenovo since around 2003 or 2004
@DoReMiForever They are just well designed PC. But it's your personal opinion. Is that because it's Chinese and Chinese are killing too many Tibetan and Uighur?
@DoReMiForever Really, the Lenovo I used were good, I never had any problems with my Lenovo. I agree that Thinkpad was better made by IBM! There were Chinese expert saying that CPU Socket from Lenovo was poorly build to compare to IBM. Chinese got problem with they attitude during work. I visited a Chinese state owned nuclear pressurized cylinder manufacture company. People were smoking and playing cell phone. At lunch time, people went drinking or sleeping! Nothing like Japanese!
@wuyunchi dude....ibm was made by chinese in the past....way back in time before they were acquired....seriously, live without the chinese and i'd love to see your state of being in 3 month.
Lenovo thinkads hit at stock configuration military rugged standards regarding temperature (up to 140 degrees celsius), shock, dust and humidity tolerance.
You could try it, and it probably would survive all that shown in the ad. Since it meets strict military standards and has survive house fires before.
@jacobbobcorn No, it might survive about water spill, but as far as I know, no home-pc are ever water proof or going to be water proof, I mean who is going to use a laptop under the water?
at least it weighs 10 pounds. there are some lunatic thinkpad repair guys. you ship to them, they fix it. sorry to hear your news. I'm on second T series. very very very very happy with machine. please, just fix it and move on. PS I bought second hand and installed brand new harddrive. so the drive is new and the machine works well. I sure use it a lot. Good luck.
@Silverwolfstarz Have u every use a ThinkPad? I accidentally dropped it about 2 feet from the floor..the laptop's hard drive paused for a few seconds --> then resumes to run smoothly as before LOL
@shalpp you are so stupid. IBM is IBM, Lenovo is Lenovo. Lenovo is Lenovo here, Lenovo is Lenovo in China, same with IBM. Lenovo does not have 2 different names, and is definitely not IBM. They are NOT the same company, seriously, do some simple research before you talk.
@shalpp No, they bought the Thinkpad line and they own it. IBM has nothing to do with Thinkpads anymore, Lenovo is in charge of everything, and they don't need IBM's permission to sell Thinkpads.
I accidentally spilled a cup of water on my T41 keyboard and it STILL worked. Okay I turned it off right away, but I let it dry out for 24 hours and it still worked!!! :D
