@macdisciple The lyric from Cris de Burgh/ Dont pay the ferryman leans on the greek mythts.The ferryman is the one who takes you to the other side of life and if you pay him to soon he'll take you to a cind of hell.. ;-)
I'd believed my friend had vetted the piece as she normally did when I wrote that. It was impossible to retract once I'd learned the truth. It's still available at this site with the title Chris deBurgh is Dead. I'm rather venomous towards that channel, as i have followed Chris' music for over 30 years. I sent an email for the contact on Chris' website regarding it. Thank you for posting this; maybe now something will be done. Thx again =^..^*=
I received n viewed a bogus news story that stated Chris had collapsed after a performance. He was DOA to the ER. The person either edited the anchors' comments from prior statements or had access to a functional set. I'd lost my Mom 3 weeks prior and this just blew me away. Lady in Red is played over the mourners processional walk as the coffin carried out from Westminster Abbey, traveling in a horse drawn hearse to a sea burial. I wrote that believing my friend had vetted to authenticit
Awesome song .Bad advice ...not only you have to pay the ferryman but you have to fix the price before he gets you to the other side. Charon said . Acheron approved ...no bull !
Chris de Burg had a peppy stage performance and could carry a tune with convoluted lyrics, a great voice that could carry. Imagine, folks, a song where you understand the lyrics sung + repetition only in the main chorus + it does not sound like jump-rope music ! In today's crap rap and Gaga gagging, the song theme & the song itself are mythological............
this song was wrote about my grandad! he brought chris out to the great saltee island and the weather was too rough to land him and he couldnt land chris.
(sorry..1 of the cats walked across the keyboard). While I was traveling I received several emails that Mr. De Burge had died, then when I checked the net I found one done by the British. Several I was able to disprove but 1 seemed legit ... I was heartbroken, n when I was playing back concerts I loved best this provoked the response u commented about. I still can't imagine how someone could imagine creating false obituaries could b humorous! Thank the One this report was indeed untrue n I
There are lyrics that have always been spoken during the instrumental interlude, but were impossible to decipher. This version of the song includes those lyrics, added here. They start at 2:37 through 2:53.
We were led a seat
And all were clamped down the hatches
Where strange and sepulcher noises of rolling, shrieking, howling, jiggering chains
Just in case some of Chris' recent fans r unaware, he has passed on to met the Ferryman in person. Such a loss of a unique soul who also, as a piece of trivia, was related 2 England's royal family. Chris may have left this world but his music lives on 4 all who r willing to listen.
@terpsichoreankat I'm sure that this will be news to Chris as he has just finished recording and will be doing a few live concerts coming up. One of them being Zermatt Unplugged in April this year. Where the devil do you get your information?
This the best edit of the real 1980's video and live performance of this put out there. As an unexpected bonus the distorted words of the instrumental portion r distinct. Thank u! -^..^-
@elygal7713 Even though I know who Charon is and all that, I have to admit I still find the metaphor a bit... illogical. After all, a ferryman has to land somewhere so he can spend his money. And you do fix a price before the passage, I'd guesse. It has always annoyed me.

"We were dead of sleep,
And all clapp’d under hatches;
Where, with strange and several noises
Of roaring, shrieking, howling, jingling chains,
And more diversity of sounds, all horrible,
We were awak’d; straightaway at liberty;
Where we, in all her trim, freshly beheld
Our royal, good, and gallant ship"

I wonder if the company of the Ferryman is The River Styx Ferry Cruises? Do you think he might accept credit cards?
