@traced14 No, he didn't. Those blocks are called End Portal Blocks, they could be found in strongholds 1.9pre4 (first added in 1.9pre3), and in 1.9pre5, you can go to the End. A dimension where there is all Enderman, and a dragon, with a white-greenish stone called "End Stone" and towers of obsidian makes up that world. No stars, no weather, very little light, and no way to get out.

i know what that is. when you are lucky and find the fully repaired "The End" portal, if you take many eyes of ender place them in the holes the portal will activate and you'll get that goop.
