When there's rhythm flowing in your blood, it's hard to sit still while the melodies minister to your soul. Where's my flute?...I'm inspired! Blessings to Patrice and Karen. • ((((THIS is LIFE, LOVE IT!))))

  • Two of my favorite musicians. Karen Briggs makes me want to jump up and go buy a violin! and Patrice Rushen has inspired me since I was in highschool!

  • Patrice has been awesome for years and Karen, this is my first time hearing her. She's absolutely amazing and the two together are off the chain, over the top and whatever else I can think of to describe how incredible they are together. (lol)

  • @ohemp that was cute...& I concur!

  • BRAVISSIMO!!!!!!! - the sympathetic interplay is amazing but these two had it planned and have goin' on! I have been a fan of Patrice's since the great work she did in the 70s on other folk's albums and partnering with George Duke. Alphonso Johnson's records ,even a Joe Henderson 'Black Miracle' she did it all. Karen is doing what she is supposed to do for her instrument -keep it live. This duet reminds me of Hancock and Shorter and seeing them live is special. The Stevie tune had me mesmerized!

  • excellent work!

  • better cecilie :)

  • This is so tight! Two powerhouses turning it out1 So beautiful, it's bringing me to tears right now!!!

  • @sputnik9453 that is not poetry...

  • @sputnik9453 mine too o.o

  • We all know Patrice and there not much new to say ir be discovered ... she has been on the map seems like forever. But Karen Briggs really cant be appreciated until seeing her in person where she free styles and cuts a whole in the floor dancing and playing at the same time.

  • I AM KAREN'S BIG FAN AND I LOVE HER TOO!!

  • yanni don´t is nothing whitout you

  • i love you karen you are wonderful, i love you so much

  • She sounds alot like Jean Luc Ponty! I love "Rennaisance" by JLP, the 1st song that she played. Some of you might not know, but patrice Rushen did play the piano on the original with JLP back in 1975.

  • You are SO CORRECT in saying that she sounds alot like JLP in the first song! I've heard her play many times, but he was the first person i thought of when she began to play. Maybe it was the arrangement of the song. BTW, Patrice is nowhere to being a rookie herself....GREAT MUSIC!

  • I Loveeeeeeeeeeeee this lady, Karen you ROCK! God Bless!

  • see 22:03

HAHAHAHA THIS IS JUST SO AMAZING MAN!

  • this is fantastic!

i have been a fan of Patrice Rushen, since i was a little boy.

    i just love her!!

i am just discovering Karen Biggs

  • Well put together I wish I were there in person.

  • the best of jazz all on one cable, ethernet lan. Can't get better than this

  • This is wonderful. :)

  • Karen Briggs is a product of "The Norfolk State University". She attended during the same time as me. Her talent was obvious then and has only grown since 1980. I am always happy to see her performing with great artist. By the way if you ask her she will tell you she met Patrice when we had her for homecoming on year. Young people today don't know what "real" music is all about. Much love to the NSU family!

  • Great music, awesome performance. If you like this piece, also check the original version with Jean Luc Ponty, Al Di Meola and Stanley Clarke on their album The Rite of the Strings, this piece is called "Reinassaince". Thank you so much for the video.

  • Return to Forever is my fav jazz ensemble of all time - anyone talented enough to play their level of complexity is awesome - kudos Patrice and Karen !

  • Hey, I upload this video, you can download it at tinyurl (dot) com/video29 You can put that on your ipod or whatever...

nice..Akon sounds so good at the start of wanna be starting? something, he has a great voice too, I like that version, nice compilation too

  • This is in my favorites and I have to play it at least once a week. These women are unbelievable.......

  • these women are beast!

  • This is damnnnnnn good!

  • This is the best half hour I have spent in a long time.

Patrice just can't miss! At least in my book.

  • Also sounds like its from Romantic Warrior album by Return To Forever, probably the same Renaissance piece, different artist.

  • Absolutely stunning & beautiful!

  • This sounds more like a Jon Luc Ponty piece. i bet it is.

  • Gosh! Haven't seen Karen Briggs for years.

  • Have yet to see a combination more amazing, serene, stimulating than the violin-piano! And Karen just makes it even better!

  • First part is 'Renaissance' from Aurora by Jean Luc Ponty...though so much was down to players like Patrice, I reckon.

  • just amazing

  • what music's all about! Fabulous! Thank you Karen and Patrice :)

  • Woooah! Hi Karen! Nice to meet you!

  • Just magnificent....seriously. I am in awe. Both have always been favorites of mine...I wish the media were saturated with their talent,so our children and posterity can know what it is to create MUSIC....I'm showing my kids this vid as we speak...

  • Muitooo Lindooooooooooooooo =D

  • Great job on this one! i got it for my cell today, downloaded from complimentaryringer. com Love it!!!

  • Does anyone know where to find this piano sheet music? I am sitting here trying to learn it by ear and it would be so much easier another way! LOL

  • This is a brilliant performance.

This is my first time being exposed to Karen Briggs. She has a beautiful command of her insturment. I am glad that I found this particular video.

    Thanks for posting their work.

  • i think that you are both amazing. this performance was brilliant i could listen to it on repeat.

  • I could listen to this all night. Two excellent artists!

  • This song, at least the violin portion was written by Yanni.

  • This entire song is called Renaissance written by Jean Luc Ponty in 1975 from his album "Upon the Wings of Music". Patrice Rushen played keyboards on that entire album. It was a Jazz fusion classic.

  • Comment removed

  • the first three minutes contain portions that are similar to the solo at the end of The Rain Must Fall, imo

  • is like a song from jean luc ponty... did patrice rushen create the song?

  • I love her tone.... she has such command of her instrument, a real tigeress!

  • Wow!

  • Absolutamente fantástica. Os recomiendo verla con Yanni y Verviyan.Raquel.

  • great, thank you

  • This is absolute quality. Its a real tragedy that performances like this are not shown regularly, if at all, by the media. Instead we get talentless boy and girlbands forced down the necks and into the minds of the majority of children, who then have no idea of what quality and real music is. Luckily my children will see this. This is truly beautiful, huge respect to Patrice and Karen for such wondrous music. Thankyou for posting this, it has made my day.

  • True Masters....

  • This is truely a masterpiece by both artists...I'm foaming at the mouth as a aspiring keyboardist...

  • This is amazing, when was it done, and what was the name of Jean Luc Ponty's album that this song came from? I know the song is called Aurora but the other songs on the original album have to be just as devine...

  • very nice.

  • I used to buy all the records by Patrice, i liked her funky beat and beautiful soft voice. This is nice too :)

  • Amazing musicians, the piano and violin are my fav combination in duets.

    KAREN RULES¡¡¡

  • Karen Briggs and Patrice Rushen are brilliant!! Thank you for the video, I really enjoy artist of this high calibre!

  • I totally agree! Seeing these two together is great. Such talent!

  • playing that classic jean-luc ponty cut, Aurora. Patrice played on the original.

  • Upon the wings of music was the title of the LP!

  • Simply devine.

  • by hte way the girl on the piano plays some unbelievable rhythm patterns.

  • Yeah, this is Patrice Rushen one of the best kepted secrets in Jazz. In the very early 70's she started out as a Jazz and Jazz-fusion piano prodigy, but because of her extreme vocal talents she went R&B and Pop by the later mid 70's. She can play, compose and play with the very best of them in the Jazz world. A lot, but not all audiences know her for her commercial recordings, but she can really play and write.

  • On the first 13 minutes I thought what a strange dejavu jazzy melody !!! it's like they play it 3 time in different but similar flavours. Then I started to see pictures of a jazzy city in my mind and I thought what a amazing theme....

  • Also, those who know the work of Karen Briggs know that, by many, she is often considered the Queen of (the beginning of) hip-hop violin. You might be able to find some of her videos with Yanni on YouTube.

  • the armenia guy is the one who play (the storm) with yanni

  • Whats his name?

  • Samvel Yervinian

  • Is she short?

  • Briggs is fantastic please don't overlook this.

Who is the new Armenian guy anyway

  • Samvel Yervinyan

  • No he ain't. The two can't even go in the same category.

  • I normally hate it when people post comments about one musician being better than another. I love Karen but I got to give Samvel his props too. I just watched him today and I was blown away.

  • Hey I love both of them. Hey Jean Luc Ponty did this song too on one of his albums!!!!

  • loving this, rushen is a bit sloppy but briggs rules

  • Hey Yersi. It is easy to think that Karen rules because all she has to do is sit on top of the bassline, harmony and rhythm provided by Patrice Rushen. In the sense of which of these two is working harder the Pianist (Patrice) is doing at least 3-4 roles where as Karen is performing 1 role, soloist. I think it makes sense to see that each of their parts is what makes the whole thing sound so good. I assure you that if Patrice wasn't doing her parts Karen wouldn't appear half as impressive.

  • Karen Rules!!!!!

  • Karen Briggs is the miracle of our time .....

I cant go to bed every night before watching some clips of her playing wonderful music SHE IS REALLY A HERO

  • Just amazing! So glad to see this here. This is what comes of the children some viewers have criticized along with their parents regarding the requisite hours of practice. THIS is why we do it. Bravo!

  • Two of my heroes on the same stage. Wow! Karen is much more than Yanni's on-stage soul, and fans of Rushin should check out her performance on Lee Ritnour's "Overtime" DVD. What a treat to see them both together!

    Thank you,

    Colin Barnard,
