I enjoy how Mrs. Briggs merges dancing and playing her instrument with great mastery and excellence. When there's rhythm flowing in your blood, it's hard to sit still while the melodies minister to your soul. Where's my flute?...I'm inspired! Blessings to Patrice and Karen. God bless you both, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
omg this is simply amazing i love it from 14:23 to 14:50 is a classical seizure time lol
but no seriously this is truly amazing love the violin and the piano these two artist i feel are using each musical instrument to their full potential and it gets no better than that :)
LOOOOOOVE their take on the Jon Luc Ponty tune...and Summertime...(couldn't catch the third tune) Send One Your Love...ummm yeah. The whole sesson...NIIIICE. See...interpolations...fusion...classical jazz...progressive...and contemporary...all together...LOVE it.
Two of my favorite musicians. Karen Briggs makes me want to jump up and go buy a violin! and Patrice Rushen has inspired me since I was in highschool!
Patrice has been awesome for years and Karen, this is my first time hearing her. She's absolutely amazing and the two together are off the chain, over the top and whatever else I can think of to describe how incredible they are together. (lol)
BRAVISSIMO!!!!!!! - the sympathetic interplay is amazing but these two had it planned and have goin' on! I have been a fan of Patrice's since the great work she did in the 70s on other folk's albums and partnering with George Duke. Alphonso Johnson's records ,even a Joe Henderson 'Black Miracle' she did it all. Karen is doing what she is supposed to do for her instrument -keep it live. This duet reminds me of Hancock and Shorter and seeing them live is special. The Stevie tune had me mesmerized!
Wonderful. It gets better and better as it goes on. What talent. I could play this all day. It will certainly be bookmarked and shared with friends. Thank you Thank you.
So beautyfull notes of those 2 ladies, really pure from the heart , Hopefully I see them one day in the BIM house Amsterdam Holland, you deserved an place in this famous concert world and jazz music scene.
Patrice and Karen , love for ever in your beautyfull music !, compliments !
We all know Patrice and there not much new to say ir be discovered ... she has been on the map seems like forever. But Karen Briggs really cant be appreciated until seeing her in person where she free styles and cuts a whole in the floor dancing and playing at the same time.
She sounds alot like Jean Luc Ponty! I love "Rennaisance" by JLP, the 1st song that she played. Some of you might not know, but patrice Rushen did play the piano on the original with JLP back in 1975.
You are SO CORRECT in saying that she sounds alot like JLP in the first song! I've heard her play many times, but he was the first person i thought of when she began to play. Maybe it was the arrangement of the song. BTW, Patrice is nowhere to being a rookie herself....GREAT MUSIC!
Karen Briggs is a product of "The Norfolk State University". She attended during the same time as me. Her talent was obvious then and has only grown since 1980. I am always happy to see her performing with great artist. By the way if you ask her she will tell you she met Patrice when we had her for homecoming on year. Young people today don't know what "real" music is all about. Much love to the NSU family!
Great music, awesome performance. If you like this piece, also check the original version with Jean Luc Ponty, Al Di Meola and Stanley Clarke on their album The Rite of the Strings, this piece is called "Reinassaince". Thank you so much for the video.
Return to Forever is my fav jazz ensemble of all time - anyone talented enough to play their level of complexity is awesome - kudos Patrice and Karen !
Way back in 1894, a little girl named Madeline Crothe was skipping through the woods when a mysterious man in black snatched her. He brought her to his house, tourtered her, and starved her to death. Send this to 6 videos in the next 30 min. and you will be safe, but if you don't... at approximately 1: 34 tonight you will wake up to see an aneorexic child holding a bloodied up knife and she will kill you" less sorry this scares
Just magnificent....seriously. I am in awe. Both have always been favorites of mine...I wish the media were saturated with their talent,so our children and posterity can know what it is to create MUSIC....I'm showing my kids this vid as we speak...
This entire song is called Renaissance written by Jean Luc Ponty in 1975 from his album "Upon the Wings of Music". Patrice Rushen played keyboards on that entire album. It was a Jazz fusion classic.
This is absolute quality. Its a real tragedy that performances like this are not shown regularly, if at all, by the media. Instead we get talentless boy and girlbands forced down the necks and into the minds of the majority of children, who then have no idea of what quality and real music is. Luckily my children will see this. This is truly beautiful, huge respect to Patrice and Karen for such wondrous music. Thankyou for posting this, it has made my day.
This is amazing, when was it done, and what was the name of Jean Luc Ponty's album that this song came from? I know the song is called Aurora but the other songs on the original album have to be just as devine...
Yeah, this is Patrice Rushen one of the best kepted secrets in Jazz. In the very early 70's she started out as a Jazz and Jazz-fusion piano prodigy, but because of her extreme vocal talents she went R&B and Pop by the later mid 70's. She can play, compose and play with the very best of them in the Jazz world. A lot, but not all audiences know her for her commercial recordings, but she can really play and write.
On the first 13 minutes I thought what a strange dejavu jazzy melody !!! it's like they play it 3 time in different but similar flavours. Then I started to see pictures of a jazzy city in my mind and I thought what a amazing theme....
Also, those who know the work of Karen Briggs know that, by many, she is often considered the Queen of (the beginning of) hip-hop violin. You might be able to find some of her videos with Yanni on YouTube.
I normally hate it when people post comments about one musician being better than another. I love Karen but I got to give Samvel his props too. I just watched him today and I was blown away.
Hey Yersi. It is easy to think that Karen rules because all she has to do is sit on top of the bassline, harmony and rhythm provided by Patrice Rushen. In the sense of which of these two is working harder the Pianist (Patrice) is doing at least 3-4 roles where as Karen is performing 1 role, soloist. I think it makes sense to see that each of their parts is what makes the whole thing sound so good. I assure you that if Patrice wasn't doing her parts Karen wouldn't appear half as impressive.
Just amazing! So glad to see this here. This is what comes of the children some viewers have criticized along with their parents regarding the requisite hours of practice. THIS is why we do it. Bravo!
