Two great men are responsible for making all of this possible, Jose Abreu and Isaac Stern....the former for giving these wonderful young people here the opportunity to become fantastic musicians, the latter for having discovered Wang.
While Jian Wang's handling of the solo part is, of course, most excellent, I'm quite amazed at the orchestral side, what with all these very young people playing.
That said, I think Gustavo Dudamel's coming to Los Angeles will be the best thing for symphonic music in the United States since Leopold Stokowski became the music director of the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1912.
Oh My Godness, that opening theme is so beautifully played
Wang Jian plays that passage better than anyone else in my opinion. His tone is so warm and focused, it sends chills down my spine every time I hear it.
you mean b minor? this movement in particular raises only 2 of the 12 notes in a scale by a half step, it doesn't lower every single note by a half step as it would in a-flat minor. I don't understand what you mean, please enlighten me.
I have to say this is my favorite performance on Dvorák Cello concerto. It raised every hair on my body while listening to it. I can feel the pride and passion for music in and through the young Venezuelan musicians. I didn't know much about Wang until this and he plays with such ease yet with power and intensity. Bravo for the woodwind sec. for playing such a lovely duet with the maestro.
I've seen a documentary show about the great work in Venezuela on CBS (I think) and I'm
No ... 1st Mvt. 2 means 1st Movement, part 2. There's no second Dvorak concerto, unless you count his A Major concerto which really wasn't his, because it was found by another composer (only in piano score form), who made it more their own than Dvorak's.
Instantly favorited...

@301250 you are forgetting Wang Jian himself for all the hard work he has been putting in.

Having the woodwinds play more of a duet with the cello was actually a brilliant move; most poignant and highly effective!
Some great and new ideas for an old warhorse; great work!

Dvorak defined A flat minor when he wrote that.
