The Chinese opera right ? Butterfly Lovers ? And there are two butterflies at the end... I read somewhere it was the chinese Romeo and Juliette ! Wow ! It's amazing to think of Yam as a Juliette. Quite a change from her usual roles... That must be interesting to see ! It reminds me of the end of the sacrifice of the princess, in the Yam and Bak version where you see two roses at the end...
In the story, Yam wishes to go to school.. but, in the old time, girls are not encourage to go to school., and Yam's desired school is quite far away from her home.. and Yam insists to go... Her parents are so worry..., that's why she said she is able to act just like a man and evenher voice could be sounded like a man...That's why you heard Yam's voice changed so suddenly! She was just showing off to her parents...

In the role here, Yam is a girl, but, she just suggested herself to be acted/dressed up as a young man in order to do thing...
(But, I think the girl voice here was NOT really Yam's voice? Might be someone sang for her in the film?)
