you cannot simply say the polytheism is the work of the devil or any other kind of paganistic movements , if you were to propose that message you are in fact stating that all people in humankind in pre-christian were devoted to satan, where in fact that there were no satan was established nor the qualifications to go to heaven, in polytheism you are given the choice to live your life without devotion where your responsibilities are dealt with the gods.
29“Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by man’s design and skill. 30In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead.”
@FeignofCordor I dont recall any of the apostles becoming Christian until jesus died?? I asume then that they were working for the devil then, since so many others before them weren't Christian either . Dont forget the corruption that took place in the middle ages, such as paying gold to god for forgiving the sins that have been done. As well as the misleading war of the crusade. and the destruction of the classical polytheism temples in europe, therefore was it a sin to do that or not?
polytheism or paganism should be revived it should be known to throughout the world it is a religion of freedom where you are given the opportunity to praise more than one god, where your choices are deepened on what the gods decipher. Polytheism led to a civilized nation , where such philosophic schools were known. You may say that other regions are good , however if you look at it from a historical point of view can see that these other religions came and rose during the dark ages.
The truth about Chritianity and other forms of Monotheism is that they cannot exist without empahsising the iron fist over their subjects. Since times have changed more and more people are going back the the very essence of humanity. That essence just so happens to be pagan taditions and other forms of polytheism.
To be honest I don't hate christianity but Polytheism makes more sense to me it just does!!!Why do Christians say Amen at the end of their prayers.Amen is an Egyptian God.If iam wrong I don't care I prefer Polytheism more than monotheism.Monotheism just doesn't make sense!!!I think iam going to change my religion.Like I said iam not against christians but come on I know there is more than one God it makes more sense. Why does in Proverbs it says Wisdom was here since the begining seek her?
I view Krishna to be the supreme god with other gods of all other cultures being like lower or servants of krishna separate like we humans are but all as one through the body of krishna
No son (or offspring) did fod beget, nor is there any (god) along with Him. (If there had been many gods), then each god would have taken away what he had created, and some would have tried to overcome others! Glorified be god above all that they attribute to Him!
( سورة المؤمنون , Al-Mumenoon, Chapter #23, Verse #91)
I think henotheism is a better term, instead of monism. Monists considers that only one deity is worthy of worship, while henotheist worship almost exclusively one deity, but considers all others worthy of praise.
Slavic paganism is a good example, since it is of indo-european origin. :)
I think you make some strong points, however if we take your conclusions to there rational end. We find football hooligans fighting and dieing for there regional Deities. All believing that theirs is superior. We have a change in belief without a change in action!!
@JuniusFaction your premise seems to be that polytheistic societies are by default more peaceful and I just don't agree..and history says otherwise as well
Ancient societies were less peaceful. Without centralization, there are many warring factions. However, religion was not one of the many points of contention. Angering or shunning any deity anywhere was considered inadvisable. Insofar as ancient people did war, as all people will, religion was irrelevant to it.
That's just one kind of Polytheism, Soft Polytheism. There's hard Polytheism too, the belief that the gods are all distinct individuals and NOT just reflections of a whole. This belief was more common among ancient Polytheists and is my own personal belief. Hail from a Hard Polytheist Asatruar.
I'm a Polytheist too, but I call myself an Celestine or an Astrotheist because I worship the Sun moons and planets. Religion actually started out of Astrology.
Re: Monotheism and war. In my Religious and Ethnic Violence class, we learned that the three religions most prone to violence are Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism. The first two due to universalist monotheism and Hinduism due to the caste system.
Have you read the book A World Full of Gods by John Michael Greer? I recently had a dark teatime of the soul, and this book really helped me figure out how a polytheistic world works. It's basically polytheist apologetics.
monotheists have a hard time explaining why bad things happen under an omnipotent, omnibenevolent, and omniscient deity.
that wasn't the case for the original pagans since there were good, bad, and neutral gods/goddesses. polytheism is thriving today due to neo-paganism, shintoism, hinduism, and pagan reconstruction movements.
I think all deities emerged from the same Source, but "The Source" I do *not* think is a "supreme" God or "God", I think it's more like a matrix-core of: Void, Energy/Forces, and Substance intwined as the central heart of chaos and structure, of quantum sigularities that universes and all deities emerged from. I think both "hard" & "soft polytheism", pantheism and quasi-panENtheism, are all correct and true? Would I be a Omnitheistic pagan? ^_^;
That is an interesting way to look at it, and thank you for the comment. My question, though, is: does it make a practical difference? How does it affect how we should behave or consider things? I am a pragmatist at heart. :)
Hm... Differences make life more interesting. I think people should just "be excellent to each other" and not act like spoiled petulant children. As for me, I'm semi-cynical,
quasi-relavistic pragmatic, and usually practical dark bohemian! ^_^
@ShadowArtist WOW you got *space* , gravity, photons, electrons etc from a matrix core? thats quite funny to:) However what you typed above made no sense unless you was listening to Led Zeppelin and smoking a fat one. I`m a Christian fortunately and I follow the one true God who created everything.and God warned us thousands of years ago not to turn to other Idols to worship. Just to let you know the path you`re on doesn`t lead you to Salvation but Damnation and thats not so funny

Why would they be fighting people with different deities? Pantheons tend to form to include many Gods. That's what polytheism is.
