My brother and I did something similar to this a few years ago, only we used an old Snapper riding lawn mower, like the one featured in Forrest Gump, with a 7 HP Briggs And Stratton engine, and an old Bolens 18 HP lawn tractor. The Bolens was dead, and it was so heavy that we could hardly move it. So, we went and grabbed the Snapper, and a logging chain, and I boarded the Bolens, which we had to tow in reverse, while my brother boarded the Snapper. He took off in high gear, and nearly lost it!

actually...you need the chain tied down lower....below the rear axle,like on the john deere and all draw bars on tractors. This way it wont pull the front back and over. since its not above the axle pivot point but below.....look at a tractor pull competition next chance you get,
