  • In the desert

I saw a creature, naked, bestial,

Who was squatting upon the ground,

Held his heart in his hands,

    And ate of it.

I said: "Is it good, friend?"

    "It is bitter - bitter," he answered;

    "But I like it

    Because it is bitter,

And because it is my heart."

  • Youre all faggots. I like GY!BE, but I much rather listen to Set Fire to Flames.

  • @TheShowman696969 You are right, we are all faggots. But we admire your superior music taste, we will all start listening to Set Fire to Flames immediately.

Thanks for enlighting the poor masses.

  • @FailDrummer I know Im right and youre welcome. I do have really good music taste, far better than yours.

  • (8^D)

  • Beautiful but sad.

  • Overrated? Yes.

  • the intro sounds like Feynman, is it?

  • Beautypiece!!!!

  • I'm sad.

  • @MrSnicklefritz559 oh. you want a hug?

  • I just closed my eyes and fell asleep to this music.... Incredible sensation. I heard it in my dreams... My dreams moved to the music itself. As if the entire world had been reborn in my mind.

    Incredible.

  • @Bishmoo

    No, this is good music.

  • @Bishmoo You are pretentious hipster dog shit.

  • The debate here is puerile, what it boils down to is "I liked this band first and it pisses me off that more people are getting into it". It has nothing to do w/ finding music yourself. what does that even mean? Without some kind of external exposure, its impossible to find any band at all. These underground elitists need to go choke on a chode

  • i forgot i was suppose to listen to this...

  • Plebs plebs everywhere

  • @aebelmonter wat

  • @LiNaK37 that bold faggot bring em.

  • @aebelmonter What the fuck is a pleb?

  • @LiNaK37 Plebeian detected

  • @Ril3yIzBac So that's what you mean by pleb... still though, I'm not an Ancient Roman commoner, and I have a hunch that none of the other people in this comment section are as well.

  • @LiNaK37 Key word: "commoner"

  • @Valkodu As in economically, or by some arbitrary standard?

  • @LiNaK37 The latter. Think "people who listen to Skrillex".

  • @Valkodu Then I fail to see how that term applies to me, unless of course the other person was subscribing to some other arbitrary standard.

  • @LiNaK37 Well, I suppose that's a discussion best had with the one who called you a pleb.

  • @aebelmonter

    shut up serf

  • Message me... Tell me what brought you here. In no way, shape, or form, am I gonna come back at you aggressively like some other YouTube jack ass, that's just not my intention here... I'm simply, genuinely curious. I look forward to reading if I get any responses! Cheers to this great song!

  • @cornonthejayCob1234 I was into metal when I was a kid, and I started going from folk metal into more acoustic/ambient folk music like Nest, Agalloch, and even Natural Snow Buildings. That naturally led to post rock, and, of course, Godspeed. Like most folks I didn't care too much for this record but again, like most folks every time I listened to it it got better and better and better.

  • @WingnutDishwasher Hmm, I would love to hear more about that, man... I'm not a weirdo, I'm still simply curious. But, anyway, my remaining question to you would be, was it shown to you? Or how did you find out about Godspeed? Was a friend into them that showed you, or what? I'm just wondering, I've got no real explanation where it's coming from, but I would like to know if it's no trouble, lol.

  • @cornonthejayCob1234 No one showed them to me. I just happened to stumble across them on the web. First song I heard was Dead Flag Blues. Thought it was the most depressing thing I've ever heard, but something kept me listening to them even though I didn't care for them at first.

  • @WingnutDishwasher That's pretty interesting, man. You gotta love that! Good for you, too. See, what I'm trying to figure out is people that never find their own music, they just rely on others to show it to them. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but to me music is pretty personal.. Like, it's emotion, a part of who you are, almost. And for example, like so many people get their music from TheNeedleDrop, and again, that's cool, but to me there seems like there'd be an identity issue...

  • @WingnutDishwasher Maybe I'm over thinking it, because I tend to do that from time to time, but it's something I would like to know more about, lol.

  • @cornonthejayCob1234 Anthony Fantano.

  • Love for the internet's busiest music nerd!

  • I have Nightmares to this song.

  • ah my fellow indie fucks

  • @DarkApostleMatt Definitely have to add All India Radio in that mix. A group in the genre that is underrated and one of the best out there.

  • @DarkApostleMatt you missed out Mogwai & Explosions in the Sky.

  • @CASIOASSASSIN ...how did I miss the most popular...

  • new entry on my "thing i have to do before i die" list: sleep on the beach!

  • @MMFrostMM Don't forget the mosquito repellent and someone you love.

  • @DarkApostleMatt Thank you for taking the effort to write these all down.

As a reward; This will keep me interested for a good while :)

  • @ennybm

    Check out Sigur Ros

  • @Xjak I KNOW RIGHT!?

  • I could be dying in agonizing pain while listening to this, and it would be alright.

  • Thumbs up if you came here from your scene sucks.

  • @pgrobe9000 Crazy shit ._.

  • You'll also want to listen to God is an Astronaut. Awesome stuff

  • This is just beginning of this song... :(

  • This is waaaaaaaay better than that drone fart shit from Sunn O)))

  • This is just amazing. Can someone recommend me other good post-rock stuff like this one?

  • @Kamozeloraoz

Try Mogwai or Explosions in the sky ?

  • @Kamozeloraoz Definitely try This Will Destroy You. Look up their song: Black Dunes.

  • @Kamozeloraoz Listen to "Soundtracks for the Blind" by Swans. A LOT of post rock bands have tried to copy the sound of that album, and it's been a big influence on GY!BE.

  • @Kamozeloraoz - angel by massive attack :)

  • Beautiful. Thanks for uploading. GSY!BE always seems to come at just the right time in my life.

  • świetne

  • I have been fortunate to see them twice! They put on the most minding blowing shows. You find yourself in a trace....

  • fuck I need new speakers!

  • the dont sleep anymore on the beach kinda sums it up in a weird but quite fitting way...

  • 47 people are rat race freaks who need to slow down and enjoy the music

  • always thought these guys are the band who come closest to sounding like the end of the world. and they make the end of the world sound so purrty

  • Guys...help me. I can't get into this band. They don't have any grip on me. Am I the only post-rock fan in the world that doesn't like GY!BE?

I don't know, maybe I'll be listening to them one day and it'll hit me. Hopefully. I want to like them...but I don't.

    Am I going to die?

  • @8Metaphysicist8 Hahahha don't worry about it bro, they're very different from most post-rock bands, I love post-rock, but I only LIKE these guys, they certainly aren't bad, and a few songs have a big grip on me, but altogether their just good to me

  • @IkkeEngangTraerne Actually, I think I'm feeling it. I listened to both their LYSFLATH and F#A#[infinity] albums in HD, and I'm sort of addicted. For the most part, I like really happy, blissful sounding post-rock, though.

  • @IkkeEngangTraerne Actually, I think I'm beginning to feel it. I listened to most of their albums in HD, and now I'm sort of addicted. But for the most part, I like stuff like really euphoric sounding post-rock like Mono, EITS, and so forth :)

  • @8Metaphysicist8 I'm seeing EITS on the 8th man. So pumped!

  • Has anyone not realized that this song is actual 23:18 seconds long? Apparently no one listens to Godspeed all that much...

  • @MDProductions1 YouTube restricts upload duration. You can easily find the second part.

  • are those fingers in the same position "the emperor" from star wars used to shoot lightning?

  • @TheTruePikaball FUUUUUUUUU-----

  • what an experience!!!! The absolute trip....

  • After listening to this I suggest Youtube should seriously take into account making an automatic replay.

    Thumbs up if you like.

  • This is a 20 minute song, yet the video is only 9:58. go look up the full song, guys.

  • This song made me asexual...

  • How can I "sleep" when this song is so bloody awesome!.

  • I feel like the hands on the picture are moving...

  • Hey, where's the other 10 minutes?

  • very awesome song, GYBE is one of the many good bands around

  • I feel reborn

  • I have 500 characters to sum up my feelings on the song.......I'm not even gonna try

  • For all those who think life is depressing because it is full of never ending conflict, misunderstanding, tension, defeat, loss, etc. Imagine how it was for your ancestors who didn't have electricity, plumbing, sewage systems, light bulbs, phones, refrigerators, medicine, antibiotics, cars, gasoline. And they fought and survived and overcame and that's why you exist on Earth today. But we all bitch and complain about how much our lives suck and how evil America is when it gives us all we need

  • @elysian1111 They dreamed of our lives in their daytimes, and we dream of theirs at night.

  • @elysian1111 Fuck cars.

Also America takes at least as much as it gives.

  • º_º

  • WHERE'S MA WHOLE SONG

  • "They don't sleep anymore on the beach." Everytime time I hear that I get sad :( lol

  • I'm in awe..and covered in goosebumps.

  • just didn't do it for me :\ loved the story at the beginning though!

  • ...beautiful, absolutely beautiful -______-

  • that was a journey...

  • Can someone tell me how you like this music?? Like im not trying to diss anyone by saying this is terrible but its not really music or talented playing until 6:46, its just long strumming violins and an annoying choir voice. What genre of music is this? Just wondering.

  • @barrito101 Well I think its beautiful. This is the kind of music you just sit back and drift of into your own thoughts :). And it goes under the post-rock genre

  • @wrappedinpianostring thanks for not getting mad lol i kinda get it now

  • @barrito101 It's post-rock

  • @barrito101 Different strokes for different folks, and all that.

  • @jasmmmm lol tru

  • @barrito101 Easy..just listen to it. I have the picture above from the cd tattooed on my arm so i guess i find the beautiful guitar line at 1:10 'talented'. You have never seen them play this live have you??? There is no choir and Sophie is not just 'strumming' her violin. Effrim and Mike were playing their guitars with screwdrivers to get that sound you can't figure out...by the way the sold out Paradiso in Amsterdam was completely silent during whole gig

  • The first song in my life, that made me cry.

  • Some people sleep and eat. Some listen to GY!BE..

  • @impcirca1988 wtf is gy!be...

  • @GibsonIsMyBear you're listening to it.......

  • @GibsonIsMyBear the initials -____-

  • So enticing!

  • 39 people don't sleep on the beach

  • beautiful

  • I am...speechless.

  • "Suggestions: Jesse McCartney - How Do You Sleep? ft.. Ludacris"

    ffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-

  • @vaguelyhumanoid why did you make me listen to that :'( ?

  • you guys should check Grey Aura - Ep Track I.

  • This song depresses me, but I just...can't stop listening to it..

  • I have a hard time listening to this

it makes me cry. and i hate crying.

  • I'm left wondering how i made to this point without hearing this amazing band

  • @arkim44 for real.

  • Comment removed

  • still my favorit song :)

  • Damn... mind blown.

  • Listening to music is all about how it makes you feel, THis type of music makes me feel so much. Much more than i could explain in the 490 characters that youtube give you to comment.

  • this is hard core music

  • For an interest check out from my videos our band Dali and its song Woods. Its an old live demo made in rush for an interview we had. Just when we got things rolling our band member had to go to army and everyone had stuff going here and there. even though the quality it gives a hint of the bands hard and somewhat simple sound. now were among the living again and will soon blow the hell off the earth

  • The theremin is fantastic. Only song I have ever heard that it sounds that great.

  • @KeNsY131 I agree, same way I love the E-Bow. infinite sustain is a great thing

  • God, the audio codec here is shit.

  • @sweetandy1234 audiophile.

  • most relaxing and emotional 10 minutes of my life :)

  • Wouldn't it really be more correct if it were Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennae to Heaven?

  • it is intensely, indescribably beautiful.

  • My lord, what immaculate beauty is this!? I am moved to tears.

  • this is music of the gods

  • you guys taught me how to love again

  • What instrument are they using to make that noise?

    And Ondes Martenot?

  • @AmazingPurpleCat they're just bowing a screwdriver over a guitar. It's incredible.

  • i attained nirvana by the careful placement of my fingers and listening to this song.

  • @sav3895 They are both equally good for different reasons. Also, My Morning Jacket might be more your kind of thing. That said, arguments become lessened when you give no reasoning and use caps.

  • @sav3895 They're both good in different ways, man.

  • this is what music should consist of.... not the bubble gum bullshit that they feed the kids and brainwashed. It honestly makes me sad, this world needs a thorough wakening.

  • favorite track. ever.

  • 33 people dont sleep on the beach

  • They don't sleep anymore on the beach.

    Powerful line right there.

  • wtf this isnt sleep...

  • I'll never want those 10 minutes of my life back.

  • @ZeeJayBay 9 minutes and 53 Seconds*

  • @ZeeJayBay yea well no one cares either way so keep your thoughts to yourself assclown

  • @ZeeJayBay best comment ever

  • How does someone discover this without living in Canada?? We're fed with rubbish :)

  • @smdarkknight I discovered GSYBE! via THE AMERICAN NIGHTMARE Horror Documentary, in the end titles they play Moya, although uncredited, and it just drove me mad as I had to find the source of the song. My life has been significantly better since I did. I just love this music.

  • I think it's my favorite song of them.....I know it's tough to say that because they are all masterpiece

p.s the show was gorgeous I saw them on april 29 2011 (I'll remember this date forever)

  • @velvetglacierband thats so nice of you to think of my birthday!

  • @leveelevee you're welcome!

  • They sound like the Japanese band Mono

  • Just saw them in Montreal last night. I was no longer in a crazy metropolis but deep in the ocean... floating in outer space... lost in a world untainted and ever so light

  • Whenever I hear this guy, I always feel really warm, as if he is my long lost friend and I'm having a conversation with him. It makes the rest of this track so poignant...

'they don't sleep anymore on the beach'. Puts chills down my spine.

  • i love the album cover!

  • This song reminds me of how I felt, when my bag of weed ran out :(

  • suc a beautifull melowdrama

  • All the dialogue in their music brings me to tears

  • @shart118 I know exactly what you mean. the music after these little bits are just so thought provoking and they twist all of your emotions around. amazing music.

  • I just discovered this amazing band/group...I'll just say artist. Amazingly euphoric and dysphoric at the same time.

  • So many deep comments

  • @TheRowbutt

so depressing...but motivating at the same time

  • Life is so much more than having sex.

  • @jouloupi
