Herbie Hancock's influence on modern day musicians, composers, producers, etc. like myself is deeper than many people understand! That Grammy he won is not even a good enough award for the music that he has put out! He got recognition for something that was done in his later years, and they didn't even mention his old stuff...but anyways, HERBIE HANCOCK IS THAT GUY!!!!!!

ANd for the haters that claim Foo Fighters should have won it, nothing is being taken away from them, they are a great band. Dave Grohl is a great musician, for fucks sake he was there with Kurt. But Herbie has done so much work himself. Most people think of "rock it" as Herbies main claim to fame... FUCK THAT. "Rock it" was a fluke that the record execs. wanted for "Pop" appeal. Herbie is way more than that,  Herbie is a music GOD. Go look at his catalog and tell me he doesn't deserve shit.

My biggest congrats to HErbie for his win. Herbie was one of the main reasons I became a Pianist and a Producer. Nobody deserved it more than him. He is one of THE GREATEST musicians of our time. Thank you Herbie for giving so much to the music community. I almost cried when you got it. The look on your face said so much to us that know the deal with real musicians. It was one of the greatest ever.

maiden voyage and rockit are prob herbie's two greatest works, yet he never won for them - a shame. such is the case with ray charles in 05 (great album but not his best, felt more a lifetime honourary award to me), along with tony bennett and steely dan.

Rock it is nowhere near the "Greatest" thing he's done. It was however, the most commercial. Which just goes to show you, the shittier the music, the more well known you will be.

fantastic speech.. too bad they don't give the artists a tiny bit more time to talk, esp for such a huge award, so they have to rush the speeches toward the end.

As great an album as this is, perhaps it's a case of right artist, wrong year. Yes, this album is fantastic, but is it his best? or does the grammy fit more of a recognition for lifetime achievement vibe?

Then again there are many post and responses for the over-rated Kanye. But the Album of the YEAR winner HERBIE doesn't seem to get any play here in the Youtube pop mainstream generic culture.
