I remember this well, Bernie was the only one with the guts to do this at such short notice. Ozzy asked loads of guitarists including the late Gary Moore and Michael Schenker amongst others and they all said no. In Gillan's band (1979 - 1981), Bernie's playing, writing and contribution is awesome...
I think some of the comments about Bernie are totally unjust. Before he got the job he had only hear Mr Crowley. He had to buy both the albums and learn all the songs in a few days. Stepping into Randy's shoes at such short notice would have been daunting for any guitar player. Most guitar players in the world at that time hadn't even attempted the kind of stuff Randy was playing. I say well done to Bernie.
the people what write " oh I dont like Bernie, I prefer Brad or Zakk..." you simply dont understood the situation there...Randy death and now? Bernie plays better of anyone and helped to finished these tour. A little days and he learned to play these fuckind hard songs.

I did see Brad Gillis with Ozzy after Randy and he did a good job. Not Great, but he had time to learn the set. Bernie had very little time to learn the entire set...I think he did a pretty good job considering the situation. I would have liked to have heard what Rudy Sarzo's brother could have done seeing how he was given the green light by Ozzy and Sharon...
I Liked Randy alot Bernie is another one i like.. He played his own take w/a touch of Randy........Great for what little time he had to learn the set!
I saw Bernie play with Ozzy on 2 of his shows:Rochester & Buffalo. We didn't know who was gonna play guitar & were very surprised to see it was BT.He did a reasonably good job, blending his own style with Rhoads' original melodies ,& on such short notice! It was a concert we went to with a heavy heart. All my respect to BT for stepping into an impossible situation & giving his best. Thanks to whoever posted this & confifming my memory of how these shows sounded.RIP Randy Rhoads.Gone too soon.
I really dislike the way Bernie plays Randy's solos...I mean I know Ozzy probably didn't want the guy to try and be Randy, but his solos on these bootlegs almost sound like there was no effort, just like half the original and then a bunch of bends held for really long blah blah..and then Gillis just throws in a thousand really fast notes in everything and completely overdoes it, good thing Ozzy found Jake, his only guitarist IMO that can even come close to Randy
Bernie is Great here I wish this was released instead of speak of the devil. They are all Great guitar players but I would have liked this show insead....
Bernie only ever meant to join up temporarily, he had a great band of his own. he was using borrowed equipment, he likes to feed off the other players and improvise, but there was no room for that in a big Ozzy production. Still sound great, though, and saw him perform this at a GMT gig recently (they throw in a few crowd pleasers towards the end of the gigs), singing and playing, note perfect. Truly an amazing guitarist, far to good to waste his time with Ozzy's pantomine.
Truth be told Bernie Torme was too good for Ozzy. Torme was and is a guitar player with real spontaneity and what Ozzy wanted was another "can I play you another scale wizard", technically brilliant but at times so boring. I hasten to add its all a matter of opinion.
Agreed with GuitarGabriel , saw this tour at the Boston Garden and Torme blew me away , and i've seen Randy at the Orpheum Theater on the opening tour of the band , Bernie's a much better player than Gillis . More original style , and better attitude.
Bernie was a perfect fit into ozzys band after randy died, Ozzy would of kept him, but he left,
Bernie is more into Blackmore player, he used to play with ian gillan, he was ok with sabbath he had to learn the ozzy songs very fast,
i think he is a very very good player, if he stayed with Ozzy he would of done way better then anyone after him, no one was nearly as good or around till years later, but as he said it was hard using randy's pedal board and dealing with the aftermath of randy.

I would of felt cheated if I saw this show, they should of given Torme more time to learn everything.

Torme is too laid back rock blues to give the songs justice.I like Gillis hard edge rhythms to the songs.
