The essential problem with Tom's "street" is that the Internet is NOT the street. It is media; and in the real world follows the real world rules for publishing/broadcasting - and these rules also have many centuries of social and legal evolution.
Now I agree with your essential characterization of Tom (and have told him so), but he does not actually want to follow these rules and really wishes to create (although he would deny it) a new class of Utopian rules - by tyrannical oligarchy.
