  • he looks like Carl Sagan

  • he does look like Sagan

  • rofl @ 1:18

  • sir... you are going to lose a finger. or two. or a whole fucking limb. haha

  • some people have alot of experience when dealing with animals of this nature.. not everyone loses a finger or limb this guy has over 40+ years of experience and has not lost one yet. do you think since i have pythons ect that they will strangle me? things do happen accidents happen even to experts but have some faith in people expecially when this is there full time job working with the public to get the knowledge out.

  • oh chill. i have had exotic pets--and turtles--and grab turtles and snakes whenever i see them too. i am very much as enthusiastic as this guy is. i was just making a comment. dont get your panties caught in a bunch.

  • i love turtles i currently have 2 red eared sliders. i raise them from babies. also ive talked with this guy b4

  • I havw a snapper but dont know what kind

  • if its got like spikes on its shell its an aligator snapping turtle, if it doesnt its a common snapping turtle. thats kind of an odd thing not to know what your buying

  • and if it holds it moth open underwater its alli

  • Leatherback turtles live in the ocean, they are not freshwater turtles. The asian softshell turtles are the largest freshwater turtle, the alligator snapping turtle is tied with the south american arrau as the secound largest fresh water turtle

  • Asian softshell turtles are the largest freshwater? Wow I didn't know that!

  • Hhaa please tell me thats a joke! I am deathly afraid of those things! I wont even swim in my lake or creek anymore! Psffhh!!

  • how can you be afarid of that puppy face?

  • OMIGAWD TEH WIN. MY BWAAaaaINS!

  • I liked the very end where the guy gets bit by the baby turtle! That is too funny! :)

  • That hurts like hell! Alligator snappers below 30 ibs are not really able to bite your finger off but even hatchlings hurt when they bite!

  • Like a hatchet coupled with a hydraulic piston.

  • i love turtles i have 2RES turtles THEY RULE RAWR

  • awesome creature

  • dude can u buy normall turtels cause i fuckin love them go turtles

  • I love turtles. I have 2 RES turtles but i also want to raise a snapping turtle. People think I'm crazy because of that. Hey theyre much smarter than dogs

  • What size do female alligator snapping turtles get up to, and do they get bigger than males?

  • The largest recorded female alligator snapping turtle reached a carapace length of 64 cm and weighed 28 kg (62 ibs). Male alligator snapping turtles reaches far larger sizes, the largest confirmed alligator snapping turtle reached over 250 ibs, had a carapce length of 71 cm and a skull larger than a boar grizzly bear

  • Boy, What a Moose!!

  • how much time, will it take 4 the AS,to grow that big?

  • They grow about an inch or two each year, but much faster during their first years and much slower ones they get very old. Females stop growing/grows very slowly after they reach a carapace length of 45 cm, while males keep growing their entire life, but after they have a carapce length of 60-80 cm they grow very slow.

The mature at 11-13 years, having a shell 33 cm long for females and 37 cm long for males. They can live over a hundred years old, but usually they grow into their seventies

  • THIS GUY IS MAD COOL

  • You probobly see common snappers.

  • common snappers dont have the pyramidal structures on their shell, or the longer tail with similar ridge type structures

  • I don't see why he'd be trying to save a species that keeps trying to bite his hand off. It's ike trying to save the black mombas one of the most deadly snakes in the world.

  • It will be his favorite till he loses a finger.

  • i have seen a turtle like the one at 1:00min

its very huge it was in a zoo i had so much fun :)

  • DAMN THAT FIRST ONE WAS HUGE

  • I want one to guard my room!

  • inn the museum there was only 1 cuz it was too big

  • its called aligator turtles i saw it in the museum

  • I've seen one as large as a car hood. Pre-Honda CIvic car hood. Monstrous. Hey, Aaron, you fishing for survival or sport? People like you will get hunting and fishing banned for all of us.

  • aaronisapayne, you are an idiot!

  • holy shit! i didn't realize snapping turtles grew so big

  • ahha smart one that IS a snapping turtle.

    alligator turtles ARE snapping turtles.

it's just a KIND of snapping turtle.

    mk?

    yeah.

  • dude wtf are you doing, they are endangered and if the fish is wiped out, there is no point of shooting the turtles, fish is not going to come out of nowhere

  • There is a big difference between the common snapping turtle and the Alligator Snapping Turtle. Common snapping turtles are everywhere and Alligator Snapping Turtle's are not wiping out much of anything. They are being wiped out.

  • Thanks for bringing attention to this important and misunderstood species ! Is the 'farm' open to the public ?

  • maybe you're just illiterate.

  • You would make a good dead person

  • i love Alligator Snapping Turtle

  • thanks john. great work! john has an excellent rep as a breeder!

  • dude those r sweeeeeet

  • alligator snappers are endangered so do not shoot them!!!!!!!!

  • ╔╗╔═╦╗

    ║╚╣║║╚╗

    ╚═╩═╩═╝

  • Nah, wood turtles are better... Very intelligent and personable. You can play with them, teach them tricks, and they will follow you around and beg for food.

  • I ama ctualy in the process of ordering one of these turtles as well as a common snapper from john ;)

  • ╔╗╔═╦╗

  • ahaha such a cool pet, jeez every cool pet is illegal i own 3 american bullfrogs. good old american bullfrogs and there illegal where im from. it think it stupid

  • I have an alligator snapping turtle home can anyone tell me whether they can live in deep water like if i fill the tank to swim level will they ?

  • i own a snapper (as illegal as they are) and they are fine as long as you put them in a water level above there shell and give them a hiding place, mine likes fake water plants. also give them a basking spot (a dry spot with a giant heat lamp) and your fine, they eat no vegies but meat... so do not give them celery or anything, they eat chicken breast. no poultry either, thats not healthy for them. pm for more questions.

  • depending on the size half full of its body size

  • that guy is amazing

  • These animals are very adaptive... Check out my video of the fence climing snapper.

  • i am getting a turtle from john and he is da bomb he is my turtle man idol :)

  • There are some extremists here who want to ban all reptiles from private owning, and the local reptile club's words about 'education' are just empty words. It's a backwards system here in Canada - you are lucky to live where you do. Hopefully I will have a chance to visit your farm one day and have a turtle chat. All the best, Stan.

  • Hey, this is Stan from Chelydra-dot-org - I haven't seen the DVD yet but I bet it's awesome. The unfortunate thing here in Canada, recently in Vancouver, is that the government makes totally idiotic rules banning ALL aquatic turtles as pets here.

  • awesome.

  • John Richards is a great guy. Easily one of the easiest people to communicate with and extremely knowledgeable.

  • haha beutyfull turtel

  • I love turtles man! Are those Snapping turtles native to North America??? I live in South america where a kind of terrapin is native to here , and its very easy to find. Sorry for crap english.

  • a good chance?

  • Well then, monicasuetannehill. Why don't you lead by example and go ahead and off yourself? I mean, you said so yourself that the world would be better off. Let's see you put that into practise and start with showing us all how it's done?

    Idiot.

  • if we were gone, everything would do better

  • AluminumFoilHat, if you shoot any turtle with a shotgun (witch u wont coz u dont even have a gun) i would shoot ur tiny lil head of u cunt

  • I would say that if the snapping turtle went extinct, we would still have a good chance

  • omg that is fucking cool i went to the zoo last week and they had an exibit but it was missing

  • If u went to the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium, they temporarly took out those Snapping turtles to put the Albino Alligators in the snapping turtle exbit.

  • those things can take your arm right off. We used to have some not far from where I was (just one actually LOL)

  • JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!!!!

  • HUGE!!!

  • Lmao, that phrase was from Lake Placid.

  • IT'S A TURTLE, GET BACK IN THE CAR!

  • If I saw that thing on my property, I would break out my shotgun...

  • mouth looks like the thing from tremors

  • i cought one in prospect part a few years back this is in brooklyn ny

  • tutles are crazy i had one rip my left pinky toe off

  • trurtles rule

  • awesome turtles are so cool!

  • Common snappers are my favorite

  • OMG! THAT THING IS AWESOME!! :D

  • Snapper some good eatin!!

  • Cool video, I hear Mr. Richards has just released an informative book on the conservation of this species. His captive breeding efforts of the pinkskin and leucistic ast's are truly awesome.

  • Awesome job, Mookie!
