@meiguel13 It's a completely different game. It's a park game; Carnivores is a hunting game. Both are good but very different gameplay styles. I reccomend getting both.
hey yer i checked the options in the game and i checked that the vid mode was on software ( and it was) but i dont get the second part where you said to go into the exe ( which file is this) and then change it to windows 98 i would be so greatfull if some one could help me ( do i need this 1.1 patch to make the game work?)
You can always run the 1.1 patch if you want, but it isn't necessary. And the exe is CARN2.exe(The one that start's the game), if i remember right. Can't check it out because i don't have the game right now :)

Have you checked compatibility mode? If you're using Windows XP, the error shows up "Heap allocation error", am i right? Make sure to check the video mode is "software" under the options tab in Carnivores.
To run the game in compatibility mode, right click on the exe and go to Properties->Then click the Compatibility tab->and choose Windows 98.

I have a problem guys and I hope you can help me. It says in Carnivores 2 menu that Spinosaurs weigh up to 2.5 tonnes, but the heavyest I shot was 0.42 t. Also, The Ceratosaurus is supposed to weigh up to 5 tonnes, but the best Ceratosaurus I found (and I did a lot of searching) is 0.43. The dinosaurs I mentioned are in fact much bigger than a Velociraptor (also 0.43). How can a Ceratosaurus weigh as much as a Velociraptor, when the menu says something else? Is it an error? Please reply. Thanks!

Well, it depends a lot also from your graphics card. I have nVidia GF 7600gt and it freezes sometimes because the alacn patch isn't perfectly stable. But if it does run with Software mode, then it's you gfx card =)
Well, I have a nVidia GF 8600 GS and I'm pretty sure that it should be able to handle the game without any problem ;) But I have found out that other people also encounter the same problem, but it really is hard to imagine that my graphics card is behind all this, to me it sort looks like a compatibility problem rather than a hardware problem? :S
It freezes randomly, but sometimes even when I press "hunt", and I run the game in Windows 98/Millennium compatible mode for best performance, the game was originally released for those Win platforms ;) - Anyway the problem is still there.
Does it freeze immediately after pressing "Hunt" when starting the game, or does it freeze randomly when playing the game? Have you installed 1.1 patch?

When I play this game on WinXP SP2 it tends to freezes and a message pops up about v_d3d.ren has encountered a problem and needs to shot down?? After that I get back to the select screen and lose all of my progress? Anybody who knows how to fix this? Would greatly appriciate it. I also have the patch installed and the "Carnivores [alacn]" files that enable me to play in Direct 3D mode. otherwise great game!
Still one of my favorite games of all time. Also my first FPS lol

It looks nothing alike. The graphics are different, there are different guns, more dinosaurs. Only the dinosaurs look the same.

By editing the _RES file. Go to carnivores 2 folder->HUNTDAT->_RES.txt.
Scroll down to Ceratosaurus and modify scaleA (bigger value, bigger dinousaur)

Yeah I think the weight of some animals are messed up...
For instance the stegosaurus is supposed to way up to 7 tons, but I have killed one that wayed 15.33 tons!
