What are the benefits of putting a squad of line infantry in loose formation at about 1:50 - 1:55?

I see that all units are able to fire, but is it less concentrated? Just wondering

I realy like how big the maps are in this game...they make for a better game.

they are usually very big, a lot bigger than the other games, they allow for good maneuvering and long range artillery.
