Well i wouldnt say Pontiac and Chevy are the same, Pontiacs were always known as torque monsters while Chevy's just focused more on horsepower or performance in general...still, if i were you (and what i plan on doing anyways) is take an LS engine, maybe an LS1 or LS3, and drop it in there, id be looking for a 4-speed 79-81 T/A for my project, convert it to a Tremec 5 speed or so, just pro-tour it out while keeping it looking stock
