I just wish to add that Salonen has conducted this work many times, and he always adds a special intensity to it. A performance of his was played by the Swedish Television the night after the enormous Estonia tragedy, and it expressed the grief all felt.

Salonen knows this music well, and Karajan schooled the Wieners in Sibelius. Excellent.
