FSX is a CPu bound game uppin the VGA card has less of an effect as opposed to a CPU upgrade. It's also beneficial for FSX to be installed on a system in IDE mode and on a separate physical HDD as well. I just built an i5 2500K, Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3, 8GB RAM G-Skill, XFX HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 256bit, 1TB Seagate SATA3, 1TB Hitachi SATA2, LG Blue Ray writer, Antec 650w PSU, Rosewill Challenger case all for $816.00. @MrWindTa for a gaming pc? $700 for a gaming pc this good is like buying a Ferrari for $100. I'm working on a very good build with a $700-$850 budget.
@blackopszombieraper9 build your own, it's much cheaper and you can make it so it's more conformed to what you want to do with it instead of just paying for expensive parts that you may not need for whatever you're doing. (like if it had a 6970 GPU when you only used it for fsx than it would be pointless to spend the extra money on the card and you could save a lot of money by buying one that's a little less powerful)
i wouldnt call u a show off rather a master at this, iv read dozens and dozens of forums doing all kinds a tweaks, but can get nothing lik u have with i7 860 gtx260 and 8 gig ddr3 ram. any input would be appreciated. thanks
@noobpilot1 I get that sort of crash sometimes, it could be because your pc is doing too much at once. Close down other programs and try to use the 2d cockpit as much as you can. Try not to move the mouse too fast . Hope this helps! Happy flying! =D
@darkgaiasonic in my experience i would say this is going to be terrible 1gb ramis not enough for this game it need a minimum of 2 to run at a respectable speed the processor isnt bad 1mb cache is not very good tho and an onboard graphics card is going to be no good in the fps department as it just wont cope with the graphics you are asking it to load and 30gb of memory means after fsx 15gb or round about that means you will have 10gb left as windows need 5gb free or it wont boot up
@The1FlyingHigh yeah its called the ECO A.L.C. (advanced liquid cooling). Its an all-in-one unit, no hoses to hook up or pumps to install...it installs basically like your cpu fan and heatsink, not much harder than that really. Its the easiest watercooling solution there is.
@Mast3rSkillz ohh, I doubt that Flight will run on max on any computer, remember what happened with FSX? We had to wait years before we could get a system that would run it max with good frames!
I simply used a point and shoot digital camera in HD mode to record FSX playing on my 1920 X 1080 samsung HD TV. No sony vegas pro involved
Its very possible to overclock reliably for the long term. The trick is not to overdo it. the new i5/i7 32 nm cpus have tremendous headroom and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if you could run them for years at 4+ ghz with proper cooling...Just my two cents.
@Ijinan14 Sorry there are too many factors involved that could be affecting your performance. I would suggest reading up on all the graphics settings that affect FSX performance...some of them just kill performance and should never be used, like Max.2x water for instance.
@Ilivemindfreak My understanding is that FSX is unable to utilize the Hyperthreading because as Microsoft put it- It was causing to many "collisions" and so they coded it to act as a single core whatever that means. If anyone has gotten Hyperthreading to work in FSX as intended- Please let us know.
@intercepter1 - Sorry to burst y're bubble guys, but Multicore/Multithread support was added to FSX years ago, @Service Pack 2. 'Computer Pilot' Mag proved it.
However, good processor speed (3Ghz+), is still the most important thing to make FSX run really well, which is why my rig (Q6600@2.4Ghz, GTX8800, 4Gb@900Mhz, X-Fi Gamer, Win7 x64) struggles along @20FPS, 1440x900, Anisotropic On, 4XAnti-Aliasing set through nVidia panel, most visuals on 'Mid' to 'High' settings with Low(ish) Traffic.
