@63mwg It is neither bias nor racistic. That's like saying milk is racistic because it is white. Strength and honor is a saying to rally. When 2 armies faces each other, motivation and skill is the factor. Rallying your troops raises moral, which raises motivatiion, which raises will to live.

I'd say that we should try not repeat history, but brushing everything these guy touched under a carper because it reminds you of them is very biased.

Another Greek hero you rarely hear about is Thermistocles. He lead the fleet that fought against the Persians who tried to surround the Spartans via the sea. I even heard that he helped rally and command the forces that participated in the counter-attack, eventually pushing the Perisans back out of Greece

BTW in case you were wondering the odds were the same in history also... in reality they kept fighting till their weapons broke then they beat the persians with their fists till they were betrayed.

@Dqnko actually you are partially correct, as the film does have many historical inaccuracies, but Leonidas did exist and the Battle did take place with just 300 Spartans against the might of the Persian Empire, check your History and you will find that the Spartans did indeed hold off the masses of pesian invaders but at a great cost 1500 left to defend their country along with 289 spartans who stayed to fight but the rest left Leonidas to fight with just a few hand picked spartans

Puuuuuhleazeeeeeh! The comic is a total distortion of history (which may be not a bad thing, if acknowledged for dramatic effect), from the very first panels. Historically a Persian ambassador was actually killed by Spartans but not from King Leonidas who had the culprits executed and sent apologies to Persia for the violation of diplomatical immunitiy (which was important in the Classical Age as it is today).

The comic is a no-brainer which makes a big deal of a minor battle

'Minor' in the context of the campaign it was fought in, where the delaying action paled in comparison to the battle of Marathon where the Athenians (which are belittled by Leonidas with homophobic slurs during the movie - notwithstanding that man-boy love was as rampant in Sparta as it was in Athens, being a cultural more of the whole Hellenic world) decisively defeated the Persians forcing them to retreat.

If you accept 300 as mere entertainment there is no need to argue.
