This disgusts me. Your mistreatment of this animal is sick. The dog should be running and playing not waiting on your every command to sit. Torture someone else!
Yeah I've got to agree with others when they say way too much food/treats... not to mention, mine was sitting and shaking at 7-8 weeks with no help from treats.
My APBT/Mini Shnauzer mutt (as far as I know) was sitting and waiting until i allowed it to begin eating his meal within 2 days when i brought it home at almost 8 weeks..
GSD do NOT need bribes. They are very smart and loyal and just a bit of love and a pat is all they need during obedience training. IT IS WRONG to keep bribing them with food as they will always expect it. Just pat them and rub their head when they do what you want and they will always listen to you WITHOUT EXPECTING A BRIBE VERY TIME.
@ghost8141 thats how you train them with treats until they learn to do it without the treats so shut the fuck up and learn how to spell you retarded dumb ass
I do not mean I do not feed my puppies, I mean I do not withhold food to get and keep their attention during training. I give them their regular meals, and train them twice a day ending on a good response by the dog. German Shepherds do not require food to train them unless something is very wrong with them. Even very young GSDs will respond very well with loving praise and short training sessions. Play or a nap is good afterward. Making them try to keep up to you and their food is annoying.
Why do you feed the puppies so much? I could get and maintain interest from both my puppies without feeding them at all. I use praise and it works! I HATE seeing these intelligent dogs reduced to the same stupid training techniques done on other less intelligent dogs. They respond to speech, signing and you looking at them (giving them expressions).
"Treats" are an effective method to establish the handler as a beneficial "Alpha." Once the "Alpha" relationship is established, training, obedience and establishing acceptable behavior is much easier. German Shepherds can be incredibly loyal and trustworthy! I've worked with shepherds for decades. This handler seems to be doing just fine!
@CaniSport Hmmm... Not sure what you mean by "Delete two times "Alpha"? Working with G.S for years I've seen the process of establishing "alpha" played out many times. As pack animals, dogs feel much more comfortable when the alpha is established. Sogs, like horses, actually seek a relationship with humans.
By the way, was that you handling the border collie in the trials video? Great performance! My last G.S. passed away a few yesrs ago and I'm considering a Border collie!
@TheWindjammer2 In my opinion the "alpha-point-of-wiev" is not needed to handle and train your dog. You only need the "beneficial-part" ;)
Offcourse some dogs needs more rules, specially if they have to fit into a family, but they wont take over the world. They just do what pays best. Trust and companionship is the best way raising a puppy imo. Many handlers are too focused on establishing their "alpha-leadership" which is not really necessary. :)
@CaniSport Windjammer2, again. Sorry about the typos! Have you worked with both G.S. and border collies? My last G.S. was from Germany just after the Berlin wall came down and allowed more interactions between breeders. Mostly schutzhund background. Best bitch I could have ever asked for!
I've heard the B.C's need a lot of exercise and interaction. In town I have a fenced in yard but also have a rural place in Wisconsin for summers and weekends. Any thoughts?
@TheWindjammer2 Its my better half who is working the BC's, and yes shes doing quite well. Her newest dog is the rottweilerpup on my latest videos.
I am into schutzhund myself, mostly working as helper for primarily GSD's, rotts and malinois.
There are many bias about BC's and their activity (we have two BC's and two rotties in the house). Truth is that if they are activated 8 hours each day, they will need it! Our two is sleeping most of the day, untill "mum" comes home ;)

@mounthood88 a clicker is que for when a dog knows if they have done a trick right but German Shepherds are typically very smart dogs so try with out one first and if it is not working out than do so
@MrAbhishekricky Yes, he/she is just eating. If you were intelligent enough to know that when he/she is older he will do good things and remember that if he does this one thing (that's good) he will have a chance to get a treat or his favorite toy. Ignorant people.
obedience?? he's just following her hand with all that food in it, i could get my puppy that i've never trained to do that! lets see you train him to stay! then ill be impressed
This is so neat! It is very encouraging to see someone starting a young pup out in training correctly. When he goes to his new home, he will have an amazing foundation started in his training! I wish my pup's breeder had done the same.
Very nice!! I love watching positive reinforcement training at work. The puppy is adorable too and is learning so well! To the people who are commenting on the treats, you obviously don't understand the concept of positive reinforcement training and behavioural science. Loved this video!!
Awesome start for this little guy. What a great job you are doing. Love to see puppies starting out WANTING to learn, using food as a positive reinforcement. I will never understand those who want to bully/punish and constantly 'correct' a puppy rather then working with their natural primary enforcer. Cute little puppy, bright and wanting to please and work together as a team.
For a baby like this, there is nothing wrong with using food like this. They are using the puppies meal with the looks so the training lasts as long as his dinner does. As he gets older, they will phase out using food like this and expect more work from him between rewards and also probably convert to using toys as rewards instead. Thats how it works people. Luring only fails where people don't phase it correctly. I agree that a clicker would definitely improve things mind.
People that are like: "omg too many treats" have no idea...
I wouldnt give any treat to a puppy and I am sure this is the regular dry food for the puppy wich she gives to him/her for obedience and imprinting
The puppy does follow the food now but thats ok. Later he will do it because there is a chance to get food and after that because he gets his ball/attention.
I think she is doing well but I would add the clicker. I used it with all ym dogs.
why do people keep saying stupid shit like their giving him to much treats?? shes giving it its regular food of the day and using that as a method to train the dog you dumbfucks
@cristohv In the description it says "treats." Majority of treats equals too much protein, which equals weak bones. There are however treats designed for healthy bones, however neither you nor I know what the puppy is eating as far as treats, so it is not smart to insult people without having the facts.
@cristohv bro, why are you getting pissed? People make comments depending on their understanding of things, if you know more try to be humble instead of being a jerk
@cristohv Agree, they will just tell yah when they are full, don't think they are scumbags. When I fed it so little once, and I ask it if it want more, it will just lick me for a yes or just turning in circle as a no.
Of course he's gonna follow you're hand, there's a dog treat in it. You don't expect a dog to be like "Oh a dog treat, uh meh" when you give him one. The dog just wants the treat.
He's not going to get fat that was his lunch she was using to train him not high fat treats. You uys are so dumb I bet you don't even know how to train dogs. This person is doing a great job...you guys need to use your brains!
@jigsaw5401 Care to explain how i have no respect for animals? and if i'm not mistaken, i say ur one of those 2 people who dislike this video. Am i wrong, jerk?
appologies for the ignorance but i dont know if im hearing this wrong or what, but are they saying 'foos' and what the hell is that if that is what they are saying. 1:12
I don't get it, there is no training being done, I never heard a single command. The dog is just following the food, which any dog would do. It would be nice if that is all training consisted of. It reminds me of when I was a child and we would climb a tree and called it mount everst, its cute to do, but in all reality it was not the same.
I hate to say this... Someone has to train that woman how to feed a dog properly w/o spilling the food all over.. Just leave the puppy alone... Baby is not ready for training.
The puppy is not going to understand scenario or the true meaning of commands at 5 weeks. she is teaching him that submissive behavior (rather then dominant) will be rewarded by humans and therefore learn to be a submissive (well behaved) dog in the future.
But why train a 5 week old puppy? And ofcourse a puppy follows the treat and not the command. It's a PUPPY for christ's sake. Besides, I think a dog should be rewarded for the commands. Not every time necessarily, but often enough. Th world champion in obedience makes their dogs work for treats , I assure you ;) . You don't have to be hitler to make a dog obey.
This puppy is so freakin' adorable! (HUGZZ!!) Given this pup is only 5 weeks, there is nothing wrong with what's going on here training wise. I wouldn't go as far as to say he's following your command, cause you aren't really giving any. But he is following your hand and learning and when he pays attention and follows you, you give him yummy food. I think the most important lesson he's learning here is how to learn (and that you have yummy food to earn!)
I think the food is for the first few times. I think that with time this year, the dog can do without food because he has learned to do so by following the food. for training amateur going very well. May I ask how many months can be done training like this? I have aGerman Shepherd 45 days puppy. sorry for my English. I am Italian. tahnk you in advance.
Wow I'm surprised by all the negativity. This pup is 5 wks old! Are you expecting a BH routine on a 5wk old puppy!! LMAO The only idiots here are the people who don't get that this pup is learning how to follow food and build muscle memory for the more formal and demanding obedience down the road. I'm wondering how all the geniuses that think this isn't obedience start their pups? Throw them in a kennel until they're a year old then yank and crank until they get some sad looking obedience?!
LOL...I was thinking the same thing. How on Earth is this obedience? This is a hungry puppy eating a lot of food with some human gibbering over the top of him. He is learning nothing but food from the hand is yummy, lol. Two people in this video who obviously know nothing about dog obedience/training, lol.
You're feeding lunch from your hand. For obedience training, you will need to put simple commands (at 5 weeks they can start to learn 'sit' and 'drop') to your actions and reward when they respond correctly ie. I don't agree feeding treats when they are lifting their paws up off the ground and calling it obedience - it's feeding time.
In Soviet Russia, German Shepherd wants you.

for all you know she's using hand signals instead of verbal cues...the treat is a reward positive reinfrocement is the strongest tool in training

hey thats the way i train my german sheperd!!!!!!
Puppylover5430 9 months ago
I don't get it, there is no training being done, I never heard a single command. The dog is just following the food, which any dog would do. It would be nice if that is all training consisted of. It reminds me of when I was a child and we would climb a tree and called it mount everst, its cute to do, but in all reality it was not the same.

SAINT662 10 months ago
I hate to say this... Someone has to train that woman how to feed a dog properly w/o spilling the food all over.. Just leave the puppy alone... Baby is not ready for training.

everyone quit complaining and love the puppy. it's fucking cute.
churc1ej 10 months ago
let the little guy be a puppy for a few months then start the training
alderaforall 11 months ago
The puppy is not going to understand scenario or the true meaning of commands at 5 weeks. she is teaching him that submissive behavior (rather then dominant) will be rewarded by humans and therefore learn to be a submissive (well behaved) dog in the future.
TraversDubstep 11 months ago
He follows the food...anyways...why are you outside the kitchen?
eossful 11 months ago
But why train a 5 week old puppy? And ofcourse a puppy follows the treat and not the command. It's a PUPPY for christ's sake. Besides, I think a dog should be rewarded for the commands. Not every time necessarily, but often enough. Th world champion in obedience makes their dogs work for treats , I assure you ;) . You don't have to be hitler to make a dog obey.
LinaVH 11 months ago
This puppy is so freakin' adorable! (HUGZZ!!) Given this pup is only 5 weeks, there is nothing wrong with what's going on here training wise. I wouldn't go as far as to say he's following your command, cause you aren't really giving any. But he is following your hand and learning and when he pays attention and follows you, you give him yummy food. I think the most important lesson he's learning here is how to learn (and that you have yummy food to earn!)
What kind of GSD pup is he?
LadyEsori 11 months ago
Wait, I thought you're only supposed to give the dog one piece of dog bits not a handful.

u are feeding it not training it. u are giving way too much food.

he is following the food not you and you think he knows the tricks but when you tell him to sit or stay he will not know what your talking about
theameralnasser 1 year ago

NicoleMnVA 1 year ago
forget the obedience... THAT Puppy of yours is the CUTEST GERMAN SHEPHERD PUPPY I've ever seen!... Congratulations!
kranthiswaroop 1 year ago
LOL...I was thinking the same thing. How on Earth is this obedience? This is a hungry puppy eating a lot of food with some human gibbering over the top of him. He is learning nothing but food from the hand is yummy, lol. Two people in this video who obviously know nothing about dog obedience/training, lol.

HOW THE HELL IS THT TRAINING OBEDIENCE?
wba000 1 year ago
You're feeding lunch from your hand. For obedience training, you will need to put simple commands (at 5 weeks they can start to learn 'sit' and 'drop') to your actions and reward when they respond correctly ie. I don't agree feeding treats when they are lifting their paws up off the ground and calling it obedience - it's feeding time.
