these are the real good old days for Nascar, good commentaters, and racing and drivers like this, too bad i wasnt old enough to remember a lot of it, so i have to look it up on youtube, lol!!!
I want espn to bring back bob jenkins, ned jarrett, and john kernon. Rest in peace benny. Mark martin and bobby labonte always been in the big ones at talladega. They both won their in the 90's and have bad luck there too. jared out.
The road that Mark Martin went down was the pit exit to the road course. The chain link was there to keep the spectators out. They didn't expect what happened.
A few amazing things to mention here. Mark Martin won an ESPY award for this crash, the announcers showed legitimate human emotion which I miss, and holy shit he avoided killing the fans. WOW!!!
That was some ride Mark underwent there. You won't see that today because that area was paved over and a concrete wall was installed, so nobody's gonna go through there like that again.
That was one of the worst Talladega crashes I've ever seen, albiet not as bad as the "Catch Fence Club" of Bobby Allison, Neil Bonnett, and now Carl Edwards, but still it was a bad wreck, by the way the roof cam shot was awesome,
This was May 1st, 1994, the day Senna died...I wasn't able to watch this race that day but had taped it. I was watching our local news to see who won the race and I remember our local news in Iowa had a "teazer" leading into their sports segment saying that one of the top racers in the world died in a crash that day. I was convinced it was someone at Talladega. Still sad that Senna died. Someone very easily could have gotten hurt badly at Talladega though...
How can you not like MArk Martin? really hes one of the nicest and classiest guys out there. And if I am ever 50 years old and still able to even drive like he does would be a blessing. Hes awesome
NASCAR was awesome in the early 1990's on ESPN with Bob Jenkins, Ned Jarrett, & Benny Parsons along with John Kernon & Jerry Punch on pit road was the best crew we could've asked for, I miss them!
i know the racing has been different in recent years with the cot but think about it, theres been more wrecks, big ones, and pileups this year than most other years. look at dover in the spring, the first richmond race, the night race at daytona and who could forget last weekend at talladega. maybe its harder to wreck the new car but when it happenes it happens big:O
yah plus there safer but at talledega 2 weeks ago the wrecks werent that big.plus the tire problems gettin on my nerves a little bit.jr seems to get caught up in each one of those
@jrfan07 it does happen big...but they have this new car to where cars wont even turn backwards anymore...let me ask you somethin...when was tha last time you seen a crash like jeff gordon's at dover spring '05??...or stewart lowe's '05 in the fall??...these cars are exceelent when it comes to safety...im all for it...but theres no wreckin anymore....the cars are too big...make the quarter panels smaller...get rid of tha tall fin on the short tracks & cookie cutters and youll have some racin
@achamb3434 no wreckin anymore? dude, the flips, blowovers, pileups and hits have been massive and frequent every year lately. think of all the cars/trucks that have been airborne in the past 3 years - mears, allmendinger, setzer, hornaday, mcdowell, martin, newman, edwards (twice), keselowski, dale jr, kahne, skinner and logano. not to mention the massive impacts from elliot sadler, jeff gordon and johnson. plus two 20 car wrecks this season alone, something not seen in a while, think about it.
@jrfan07 i hear what youre sayin 100%...they wreck but it doesnt have that wow factor to me anymore...youll never see big ones like you did in tha late 90s early 2000s...when they wreck now it would be just allmendinger...just edwards...etc...you wont see those guys & 18 of there friends piled up in tha infield because of tha car...i glad for tha safety changes because who wants to see deaths....but wit these cars you cant completly loose it anymore...no big ones...jus flips...& those we've seen
Ah, the best years of NASCAR. Great cars, great drivers, great commentators. You could actually identify a driver's sponsor; it didn't change every week. It wasn't about the money, it was about racing.
hey can you post the last 10 laps or so of this race? Spencer and Earnhardt had one hell of a race. I remeber them splitting a lapped car. Man it was an awesome race.
the racecars were not near as safe as the cars today

Classic B.P. "How did that Camera live through all that?"
And yeah, it did look like Martin was running 200 mph when he went through the fence, and into the chainlink fence.
