FYI, in case anyone cares how this song came to be..."And did those feet in ancient time" is a short poem by William Blake from the preface to his epic Milton a Poem, one of a collection of writings known as the Prophetic Books. The date on the title page of 1804 for Milton is probably when the plates were begun, but the poem was printed c. 1808.[1] Today it is best known as the anthem "Jerusalem", with music written by Sir Hubert Parry in 1916. Then turned into this masterpiece by ELP.
this one is the best versions I have ever heard by greg lake singing it...too bad the sound was not that good at the time of the recording....thanks so much for posting...I can imagine what it sounds like when it has good sound...:)....This is the unofficial national anthem for England and was written as a story what if Jesus traveled to England...." and did those feet in ancient times walk upon England's mountains green"....very inspiring and thundering song usually with choir and organ....
wow, what a performance....sounds like it is from the 1950's...sound system...lol...but still a classic to have listened to...imagine if the sound could be restored to normal....wow....thanks...for the nostalgia....I love this song in all kinds of forms....Chris
Buffalo? Do you mean Orchard Park, home of the hapless Bills? Two friends and I saw them there (15-20 miles from Buffalo) sometime in the mid-seventies. The combination of the great hash I'd saved for the occasion and the speakers strategically placed about the stadium, and Mr. Emerson's skill on the joystick which directed the swirling sounds, I SWEAR TO GOD he turned that stadium into a spaceship and we lifted off. It was that good.
I was there, lad of 15. Nice recording! They had a top-quality sound system, really ahead of its time. Opening acts: Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the James Gang minus Joe Walsh. Has it really been almost 37 years?
@TrevorsaurusRex Tried to listen to the original, couldn't finish it. ELP, as far as I'm concerned, are the only band that can transform a hapless boring hymn in a awesome rocking track.
@TrevorsaurusRex "If you trace up Masonry, through all its Orders, till you come to the grand tip-top head Mason of the World, you will discover that the dread individual and the Chief of the Society of Jesus [i.e., the Superior General of the Jesuit Order] are one and the same person."
One of ELP's coolest tunes! Greg Lake's vocals, as well as the solid bass line he lays down while singing this song are prety fuc%#@n' Amazing!!! There is so much going on during the 3 minute span of this piece... I always enjoy listening to it! ANd even playing my bass along with it. ( But Hell I wouldn't bother trying to sing along with this... T'would ruin the song)! THANKS for posting this!!! J/M.

If it hadn't been for ELP I would not have known this beautiful hymn! (I am American)

ELP have ruined this beautiful hymn. I was going to record it myself but realized that I couldn't do it justice. Pity ELP didn't realize that too.

@cesarmalak I agree it is an awesome track, but the original in full chorus is AWESOME as well. :)
The lyrics are awesome and very pertinent to our times.
