  • Nice stuff here man! How did you have the Nova System connected? Effects loop or straight in? Just ordered a Splawn QR and thinking about getting a Nova System for delays, reverb and mod. How do you think the two pair up?

    Thanks

  • @JayDeeSG yeah in the loop. it doesn't work very well straight in. only overdrives and wah's belong in the front of the amp. everything time based like reverb/delay/chorus/pitch shift/etc go in the loop otherwise they'll get distorted by the preamp and sound terrible.

  • @FastRedPonyCar Thanks! I heard some say the Nova System didn't work so well in Series loops, so I was a little scared that the Splawn wouldn't take to well to it. But, it sounds like it works well in your Splawn so I may go this route. How is the Nova System as an effects unit overall? I need a unit with dotted eighth delays.

  • @JayDeeSG it's pretty good overall. it's like a gmajor on the floor. honestly though, I think that if you need like just delay, I would look at TC's Flashback delay. I rarely use my nova anymore.

  • @FastRedPonyCar Thing is, I need access to presets live and I don't think the flashback is all that great for that. I'm stuck between the Nova Delay and other stand-alone pedals (reverb) or the Nova System. I'm also interested in how the NS's noise gate would work in the Splawn's effects loop?

  • @JayDeeSG in my experience, all of TC's noise gates suck. my ISP gstring is a million times better.

  • @FastRedPonyCar Thanks for all the info. Have you used the gstring with the splawn in the effects loop or front? Another thing about the NS here, were you using in preset or pedal mode here and were you changing delays and verbs through this video?

  • @JayDeeSG g string goes both in front of the amp and in the fx loop. it' has dedicated loops for both. you can use one or both. can't remember if I was changing any fx in the video or not.

  • great playing...are you still loving your nitro? I'm trying to decide on a new amp as I just sold my mesa roadster and picked up a soldano avenger. I love the slight marshally breakup of the soldano on low/med gain but the heavier gain gets mushy and too undefined. the avenger also does not have enough gain for me. your nitro thoughts a couple years in?

  • @99voltsdotcom still love it man. still kicks all kinds of ass on stage and has been 100% trouble free. I think if I had to sell everything but 1 amp, the nitro would be the one to stay.

  • @FastRedPonyCar cool...thanks for the quick reply. You nitro vids are the best and most thorough on youtube. Now i gotta find one in SW Folrida to try out. I'm going on vacay to NC next month, so i may take the trip to Scotts shop and check one out there.

  • @99voltsdotcom yeah if you can swing by his shop, definately do. It sounds best (by a mile) through the splawn 4X12 cabs. I tried all the top brand 4X12's except the mills cabs and the splawn sounded the best to me.

  • Nice chops man. This thing really shines backed off a bit....Tone Thick as the Mississippi. Suprised on the clarity. Wow, Im drooling.

  • How do you hook up the nova system to your splawn head? Loop? How does it compare to other effects units?

  • V30s are junk. The sad truth is that Celestion has a huge surplus of them. So- they charge more for those honky midrange tone-sucking V30s and cash-in on ignorant "vintage" purists. Out some V30s in a 1964 Orange cab and have a field day with shitty tone if that floats your boat. Splawns sound great...better than anything Marshall has made in 20 years.

  • yup. I ditched my V30's a while back. I'm totally in love with the scumbacks. Their XH75-LHDC is just flat out amazing

  • I totally agree. I have never liked vintage 30's. I have tried and tried. They make amps sound harsh and no sustain.

  • Learn to spell dick. Oh and I watched your videos.. you have no room to talk. Go buy a metronome. You need one badly.

  • I don't really like them at all.. in fact, I think the v30 is one of the worst sounding speakers I've ever heard.

Compared to the scumback speakers I use now, nothing comes close. Celestion and Eminence no longer have anything of interest to me.

  • How do you like the combination g12h+v30 compared to 2 v30's. I am thinking about to do the same with my brunetti 2x12 with xl revo head.

  • SOunds excellent!

  • ruby el34 bstr's.

  • What Tubes?

  • one more thing, I notive that the TC doesnt really color the tone much. TC make nice stuff!!

  • I wouldn't say that either the nitro or QR is really that brown. They both do a spectacular cranked marshall tone but neither really nail the old classic brown sound. The QR doesnt have as big or as mean of a lower end. It's got more of an upper midrange snarl than the Nitro. Check out my Nitro Overdrive Video 2 for a better idea of the nitro at low gain.

  • I was a huge fan of the QR and never gave the nitro much thought. I am now realizing that the nitro's tone is one that I admire more. It is such a beautiful tone. Thanks dude, much appreciated !!

  • they both have their own thing going for them. They've got a more modern "brown" sound than what you'd hear on the old classic VH albums. I can coax a very good modern eddie tone out of this. It can nail his tone from Balance, OU812, Etc. It's more modern marshall than classic old school marshall. The Splawn SuperStock would be a better candidate for the older classic plexi stuff.

  • would you say the nitro is more browner than the QR? it has a darker tone it seems.
