I had the luck to see Terry Reid in Oxford and on the Isle of Wight way back when, awesome isn't in it. How the hell did this man escape stardom!! River possibl;y the best album ever recorded.
I saw Terry bReid twice once at Oxford Town Hall and then on the Isle of Wight. I have never understiood why this man wasn't the biggest star of all. He was awesome. River possibly the best album ever recodred.
Terry was given the choice, either record his debut album under his own name, or venture into an unknown band with some guy he knew .. called Jimmy Page, the new yardbirds being the band he wanted him for. Reid declinded the band offer and put Page onto Plant, the rest is history.
Listen to stay with me baby and imagine what page could've done with those vocals with his production skills. Fabulous!
Terry Reid was one of those guys back in the sixties that everyone seemed to know about (like, "this guy is really good!"), but who didn't ever seem to hit any kind of big time, for whatever reason. I guess he was ploughing his own furrow then, and it's good to see he's still doing that now.
LOL, funny you mention them in the same breath, I was thinkin' the same. However, as for performing together, I think the odds of a trainwreck would be good, but, hey, I'd be willin' to watch & listen, :o)
Yes, amazing album...I just bought two copies on vinyl, one new 180Gram, and and old mint copy, then taped it onto metal cassette for the car...I'm going backwards! F*&^kin Ipod broke anyway, crap....
I read an interview that said Terry was touring so turned it down ZEP to honour his established work commitments....and then recommended John Bonham and Plant for the zep job.....
Somebody tell his daughter to find his leather cowboy hat from the 1973 "River" tour or buy him a new one! He should be wearing it when he plays this tune. In the one he's wearing he should be covering Ian Dury's "Sex and Drugs and Rock n Roll".
Such a fantastic song. Thank you!!! Does anyone hear know the lyrics? I have been trying to make them out for years. It has become an obsession.

I'm glad he didn't rush to burn out....but like fine wine over time ... matured gracefully....

I don't know which sounds better:
Terry's voice or that Martin D45 he's playing.

Gonna throw a bizarre one out here- imagine T.R. and Tim Buckley creating together; oddly they seem of the same D.N.A.

Funny, they actually played on a bill together along with Jefferson Airplane in Nov. of '68 in Detroit at the Grande Ballroom.

I've got most of TR on original vinyl but I'm sure you can pick them up on ebay for not too much - the man is so under-rated.
