  • i can think of one fps that has a gud single player halo

  • @finndarr2 Halo's a good series but the single-player doesn't really equal to the offline and online multiplayer it has, in my opinion, at least. There are tons of better single players in FPS, Crysis 1 & 2, Far Cry, every main Half-Life game, Bioshock and of course Deus Ex if you count it as an FPS and not RPG are examples.

  • Yeah well. I like DNF. It's nonsense in gameform although it copy a lot of the terrible game mechanics modern shooters have brought to the table the last few years. It may be the nostalgia in me that colour my view of the game, in fact I'm sure it is, but the game gave me enjoyment and a rosy trip back to when a 66mhz 486 was the king of gaming setups and that is the point of being a gamer in the first place, take you away to some imaginary world for a while and entertain you.

  • god i fucking hate youtube. i have to type this because i'm so frustrated

  • @XDe4thSp4rt4nX "u just dont get the real joy in it probably because ur

british and not american " --> Are you fucking kidding me?

  • Its funny,u just dont get the real joy in it probably because ur british and not american and possibly not a guy so yah this is the beastest game ever no matter any straight paths.i dont care this game is for guys not little girls like urself!

  • @XDe4thSp4rt4nX I would like to point out beastest isn't a word. PS: you have the grammer of a 9 year old!

  • @guyurgikdghjdhgjurf thank u my fucking goddamn friend got on my computer while my youtube was still open. And yes he does have the grammar of a five year old and is racist against british people.Sorry about this. And for this exact reason hes not my friend anymore.BTW im a worshipper of TotalBiscuit.

  • @XDe4thSp4rt4nX No, this game tried too hard to be like halo, which is a huge mistake for a duke game. It might be a good shooter game, but it's not a good Duke Nukem game. And I'm an american.

  • TB u dont have to carry 2 weapons around all the time theres an option in the menu were u can carry 4!

  • @XDe4thSp4rt4nX When Totalbiscuit recorded this Duke Nukem Forever was not yet patched, which means that there was a two weapons system upon the recording of this video. This was not patched into the game until long after release.

  • l agree with you at the start in reguards to one way to go and duke nukem 3d isnt duke nukem forever is like step by steo game play l think rage is good it is not like dnf its just one big world where you can just be everywhere

  • Well i agree about all the things he said and that is a pretty bad game, if you compare it with all the other games of 2011. I think i would never have picked it up if i weren't such a duke fan-boy, and that's why i actually really enjoyed the game. i have to confess that my hopes where through the roof when i heard a date off the release, and that when i saw the first minutes of the game i was depressed, but i tried to look past that and actually really enjoyed the game.

  • What simultaneously surprises and does not surprise me is that people actually bothered to play this game. In the 45 mins video you said something about having a functional brain and as long as someone has that, it's very, very easy to tell if a game's going to be worth playing for whatever reasons, or not. I hate to say that back then I didn't get to play Duke Nukem 3D for undisclosed reasons but even still, I knew DN Forever would be one of the most useless games of our generation.

  • This was disappointing.

  • Obviously Duke can't compare with other shooters of today (e.g Halo Reach, BF3, Crysis 2 etc.) because it was never meant to. The game was released so that people could once again experience being the King again and it was a long time coming to say the least.Duke Nukem Forever was never claimed to revolutionise the FPS, it's only claim was that Duke would be back and it was a lot of fun having him back as well. Yes it is linear, yes it is flawed but at least we finally have the King back.

  • I just want to say this now so that I can stop saying this. DNF can not honestly be compared with games of today. It is a game that was meant to be released 12 years earlier than it was and should be treated as such. If you play this game as you would a classic from 10 years ago you have a lot more fun with it. Frankly the people who enjoy this more than COD (and frankly who can blame them) have most likely played Duke 3D and know how awesome it was.

  • "The trolls would block out the sun - then i should commentate in the shade..."

That's one of my favorite lines i have EVER heard from a commentator! :D

  • "People get mad...about video games."

And you're one of them, TB.

  • One of the most shitty games ever made.

  • Idiots at school are trying to say tht DNF is better then COD and AC and Halo Reach. Wtf? I said "Woods, Ezio, Altaïr and Noble 6 are my people. I will never like Duke

  • I really love how people who defend the game tell me to play cod or bf3 as an insult. I can't help but laugh because DNF is worse than both those games in every way. It's even more linear, two weapons and regenerating health. What does DNF do better? The multiplayer? Im sorry, but if you seriously believe the multiplayer in DNF is better than the in BF3, I'm afraid I just can't stomach an argument.

  • your "ego" is your health

  • TB sounds real alive in this commentary compared to others...

  • I enjoy open world games. I thought halo reach was going to be open world but I was wrong.

  • Hey TB, look at it like this... The Moon DLC isn't brown.

  • I wonder if he'll do the DLC

  • one more thought: I really wish 3DRealms or Gearbox or whoever holds the rights to Duke currently would go back and release the (several or dozens of) previous incarnations of Duke 4 Ever (as is) much like Interplay did with the Van Buren Fallout (3) tech demo.

  • I may not agree with every point you've made in this video, but I appreciate the candid commentary. The regenerating health and unlimited ammo boxes would seriously change the multiplayer because that was one of the main reasons you couldn't just find a choice spot and take up a camping/sniping position in some of the more intricate maps - if someone figured out where you were and got even a couple of good shots on you, you'd HAVE to go find a health pack

  • DN 3D is $8 on gog with no DRM and awesome extras, just saying, and STEAM has all of the Quake and DooM, as well as Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny for cheap, and I have them all, really great, still have my original DN 3D Atomic Edition DOS CD too.

  • Someone should make a mod removing all cut scenes and make it so you can just go without having to listen but if you want to listen to who ever's talking you can stay back and listen.

  • I'm sort of tempted to try DNF now that they've apparently made it possible to carry four guns instead of two and done something to the aiming, but it still doesn't quite seem worth the €20 they're asking for in Steam. Maybe if they added quicksave/manual save...¨

A shame they couldn't keep it old school. Resistance 3 actually had an impressive carryable weapon arsenal and health pickups, and it's a brand new game.

  • Duke Nukem Forever in my opinion is so bad its almost enjoyable. It has sort of a fun atmosphere to it and at the $10 price it is at now might be a good game to buy and laugh at. At full price or taken seriously then it fails...

  • what's with all the hate of the game? who the hell cares if it doesn't have the best graphics available. it's really enjoyable and thats what matters to me

    stop, hatin' is baaaad

  • @ScrumJ WAAAAA SOME ONE DOESN'T HAVE THE SAME OPINION AS ME. WAAAA. Fuck off kid.

  • @Dallishar not trying to say that my opinion is the only one, but its just my opinion that its a good game. dont be offended by everything life throws at you

ps "kid" only has meaning if youre still in elementary school so try harder next time

  • @ScrumJ 1. An opinion is subjective to it's holder so you can say it's fun, however it's not a good game. 2. Kid can mean numerous things, instead of literally calling some one a child. Clearly you are not above the age of 14.

  • @ScrumJ Simple. The gameplay sucks and thats all that matter. The humor is for 13 year olds.

  • @xanosdarkpaw1 at some points it certainly is but it can be funny when playing at 3am

  • @ScrumJ he just says his opinion xD

  • Pretty much every negative aspect of this game can be attributed to modern game trends as a result of the popularity of games like call of duty, despite this I still thoroughly enjoyed myself in this game.

  • I miss the old Duke games, i bought Forever, and it was cataclysmicly bad, and disappointing.

  • you can only get a ego once per action, meaning you can lift weight multiple times, but you only get a go boost one time. an other example is taking a piss, you can do that multiple times, but you will also get a ego boost once.

i honestly dont understand why you are confused about that. if you will get an ego boost every time you do that specific action, your health meter will grow outside the screen

  • i loved this game, realy loved it. but you have to look through the bad mechanics and linearity. the humor of this game is about the best i ever seen. but it is just a matter of taste

  • Know what I'd like to play? A second person shooter. Sure, we have tons of fps and tps games, why not a second person or fourth person shooter?

  • @PsychoStreakBrony SPS xD ... that is a 2D game .... and FourthPS would be like to see the body like a not moving at all "freecam" and to try to control the body. That would be rather interesting.

  • @tzekid2010 Actually, second person would be seen from the person being shot at when you're the shooter, and fourthPS doesnt exist and if it did it would in fact be the same as third person

  • @MLPZopper I'm pretty sure forth person would be an over the shoulder view of the third person...And there is a second person game on kongregate.

  • @TheRedwolf11

actually, that would be third person too

1st person is the eyes of the acting person

2nd is the eyes of the person being acted at

3rd person is from the eyes of a person not involved in whatever happens, so over the shoulder of a 3rd person is actually just another 3rd person i would say o:

  • @MLPZopper I know what first and second person is...As I said there is a SPS on Kong where you see through the eyes of who you're shooting at...But the 3rd person would be who's not involved and just a cameraman...So 4th person would be someone who's not involved and just a cameraman of the cameraman.

  • @TheRedwolf11

the 1st, 2nd or rd person have nohing to do with cameras or perspective, 4th person is the same as third person or sometimes used to indicate the general population, so that would mean killing some1 from ur own view would be like reading it in a newspaper, 3rd person is every person that sees what happens but is not involved in it o:

  • @MLPZopper nice facts :)

  • @PsychoStreakBrony Are you retarded?O.O

  • @aWoodenBoy Are you so incredibly retarded that you are unable to recognize a joke? I hope not.

  • @PsychoStreakBrony I just figured youre from the u.s or something...

  • @aWoodenBoy Nope, just a person who enjoys a harmless jest.

  • @PsychoStreakBrony clearly, my bad^^

  • what does derp mean

  • knowyourmeme(dot)com/memes/derp

  • @ozcan2222 retarded

  • @ozcan2222 Lol Derp

  • I also quite enjoy the black ops single player. The COD series went downhill after COD2 in my opinion, all the way up until treyarch decided to put its fingertips in it and made a game that was visually appealing with good mechanics, and then with MW3 infinity ward sucked even harder than before, and tried as hard as it could to emulate black ops in mechanics and gameplay gimmics, but simply succeeded in making another shit game.

  • Despite the fact that it makes me giggle at times, it is a pretty terrible game and a massive disappointment, but really i didnt expect much more from it. when you start with a game that was, admit it, great in nostalgia only -- i dont think anyone would bone up on duke 3d these days, you face the problem of following it with either more of the same which by now is outdated, or completely changing it which would betray the nostalgic effect of the game, which is its only redeeming quality.

  • i agree with pretty much all of this except i did like quite a few of the ego boosts

  • @MrNeoshredder he's not a reviewer though... He's said that countless times

  • You see, the problem I have with this guy is all he does is compare it with Duke Nukem 3D. That's not something a reviewer should do, he should review the game on it's own merits. Take Saints Row 3 for example, a good game, but compared to Saints Row 2 it's a piece of shit.

  • @MrNeoshredder The WTF series are not reviews, he has said so plenty of times. This is a first impressions series based on his own opinions. Also, why shouldn't you compare a new title in a series with previous titles? The sequels are called such for a reason, because there was something before it. If something that came before a new release was better than something that SHOULD be an improvement, that is an issue.

  • duke numkem went to 60 dollaars retail price to measely 10 bucks

  • @Vince4542Re 2.5€ in local store.

  • Well, DNF made one thing: It showed the worst demo ever released. adly I'm not interested in buying game after that at all.

  • i uninstalled my game after the tit aline

  • *sigh* i long for the days of half-life and deus ex, thief 2, halo 1, duke nukem 3D and other amazing older games, why did games ever change from them? the last decent fps i have played was Half-Life 2, and it was amazing BECAUSE it embraced the goodness of the older games, it brings a tear to my eye :-(

I blame COD4 as, although itself was great, has caused all of this horrible "realism" that completely destroyed fps shooters

  • @Salome1234567890

Have you tried Human Revolution yet, by any chance?

  • @Spectre1545 I have tried Human Revolutions, and although it is amazing, it, once again suffers from the new era of FPS, cover mechanics, the relatively annoying 3rd person melee kills. Also, it was shorter, more liner and less deep than the first deus ex, which is why i mentioned it and not revolution, although it was more than competent than all other modern fps

  • @Salome1234567890

I kind of agree with you their. Out of that list that you posted, Thief is the only one I haven't played. Is it any good?

  • @Spectre1545 honestly, i think that thief 2 wrote the book on how stealth games should work :)

  • "Maybe it'll be worth it if it gets very very cheap at one point..."

The steam sale gave it 75% off making it $5, and TB still said you shouldn't get it.

  • in the words of the great gaming god:

"ya, we HAD all of that scripted into the game at one point, dragging / looting dead bodies, etc, but i ordered it be removed because it prevented what people wanted: mowing shit down"

    - John Romero 1991, release of Wolfenstien3d

    RIP glory days

  • LOL toby was just running back and forth with throwable grenades on boss fights!

  • TB, I think you might like Serious Sam 3.

  • @andrey9797

He was going to WTF it, but the video got scrapped because the commentary didn't meet his standards. I'm kinda sad about that because that game needs more publicity, and sites like Gamesradar with braindead reviewers like Matthew Keast aren't helping.

  • @QWERTYCommander Ah, that's dissapointing...

  • Play SS3... that game brings it back.

  • dickhead

  • @ROFLfilmings you are

  • @ROFLfilmings fuck you

  • Something that looks like a problem to me is when you kill someone with say the Ripper; no satisfaction. But in Fallout with the Bloody Mess perk (and even without) it is very satifying.

  • You are the most intelligent guy in the world

  • Have you played the DLC? people say it "brings it back to it's roots of duke3D". But it looks like the same crap. fanboys just patronizing the DLC because it's "DUKE NUKEM!, LOL". -_-

  • @Cytrome bunch of young punk kids patronizing the marketing brand of a product because it's 'old' and/or 'cool', not giving a single shit about the actual content.

same thing happened to rock-n-roll, electronica, etc. and almost every other branch of entertainment at this point. movies, shows, games; they've all become "C.C.C.".. Corporate Commercial Crap

i could sell a heap of my own shit to a 16yr old kid, as long as it was in a cool box labeled something like "AC/DC", "G-Unit", or "Dubstep"

  • We've reached a point where (i'd argue) Fallout is better at being a Duke Nukem game than the latest Duke Nukem game. Because you can carry multiple powerful weapons, start killing at your own pace, carry all the ammo you want, and play in a large non-linear world in the First Person. Just a thought.

  • If u want a great soundtrack play nier it is an RPG done by squirenix. Im not sure if it is on steam but i know it is on Xbox 360 if u ever get the chsnce i would really suggest it

  • I have to partly disagree about your opinion on linearity. I might have misunderstood what you meant by linearity because i have not actually played DNF. I enjoyed Crysis quite a bit and i love what it's interesting system of choice. But I have to point out that more recent shooters like Half-Life 2 and Call of Duty 4 are both very linear, and very good. I think the point you were trying to make is that games often shove you along a very visible path that makes the game feel claustrophobic.

  • @RTTOE Yeah that last part was what he was trying to say I mean. In games nowadays (especially this year), you're not allowed much breathing room to do anything that the game doesn't want you to do

  • I played the game, it wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either.

I'd like duke redone ala Bulletstorm.

  • in this game as u probably noticed there are only 3 enemies at a time

since it was started 14 years ago the feel was crappy so when it came out it had a good feel............ for 14 years ago

my point is that if they remade the game they could make it 10x better

  • Same old Enemies, same old Duke, Really repetetive Kill-quotas as well. At least it seems Serious Sam 3 will re-invent the Old-school FPS genre the right way. Slap some Vegas Scenery into a level, make a custom Duke character with the Editor, voila, a true DNF game. No silly feces, health-regen, fillers, loading screens (the music pisses me off) or mini-games to be seen anywhere. I like it! BTW, what happened to Dr Proton and his minions, I was looking forward to kick his ass in DNF :(

  • Man you forgot about the animation its choppy and have you ever looked in the mirror and walked duke round the room its either homage to the original games or they actually couldnt be arsed to animate properly

  • The reason why levels are so linear is because of the graphics requirements. Imagine how duke 3d would be if it was made now. Maps need detail and sandbox-maps take more time and space, and if you put detail in there you will use a lot of mb and money.

  • @MrZoider You do realise that Duke 3D was a fairly good looking game back then, and that it would have needed a good chunk of what memory was available back then, right? It's the same thing here, so your logic falls pretty flat. The maps are linear because they didn't put in the efforts they should have.

  • @fyrentenimar sorry. i didnt start really playing games until 5 years ago ( i was 11 then ). i pretty much play anything i enjoy - from commander keen to metro. i have a mix of everything. and when (now) i re play both duke 3d and forever, i feel like they are alike! and what i like about duke3d, is that is tries to have a campaign (it sort of combins the levels together ). and forever just seems to me like (nearly) the same experience.

  • @MrZoider the reason why levels are so linear is because brussard was heavily influenced by half life 2, it had nothing to do with technical limitation. with the right pacing and level design linearity can be done well, like in half life or metro, or badly like in dnf.

  • @oberon358 watch the "zero punctuation" review of dnf. the bigerst problem of the game - it was remade 3-4 times

  • @MrZoider yeah i've watched it a few times, good review. it would have been good to see what yahtzee could have done with the story. maybe gearbox will hire him for D5. imo duke DNF died in '01 when they switched to the unreal engine, they should have finished what they had with the quake 2 engine or scrapped it altogether and started fresh a few years later instead of playing catch-up for 14 years. i just hope the next game does the good Duke justice.

  • @oberon358 i think gearbox is making Duke Begins

  • @MrZoider yeah that's kind of what i meant, the next duke game.

  • @MrZoider What are you talking about, graphic requirements? The graphics in this game are terrible. Look at a pretty good looking game like Bioshock, which is extremely non-linear. Or Battlefield 3, where the multiplayer maps are ENORMOUS yes amazing looking. Or Halo Reach, which is a good looking game and fairly non-linear (or at least very open).

Linearity, in this case, is a design choice, not a hardware limitation. The graphics are awful.

  • 2 weapon limit dont really add much to anything

Only reason i could possibly think of would be a balance issue. And even that seems far fetched.

And for that i blame Halo

    Gearbox has the license now

They better make one fucking awesome game to counteract the mediocrity of DNF(still enjoyable but damn was it dissapointing 6-7/10

  • @kea919306 george brussards said the reason for the 2 weapon limit was there weren't enough buttons on console controlers, if you can believe that. DNF was consolized even before gearbox got hold of it.

  • @oberon358 yeah i remember that post really ticked me off

  • that map in 1993 is from doom

  • if you want a good fps play the wolfenstein series this game SUCKS ASS

  • If you go into the options menu you can change the wepons from 2 to 4.

  • @Blacklanterntavern that was only patched in a couple of months after release when they finally started to grasp their fuck ups, maybe 10 patches more and this game won't suck.

  • i like on how the maps look and how deferent they are one is a straight line and one is a very complex map with a ton of deferent ways to get to the objective. And this game in how fun it is looks like shit!

  • I actually quite liked the Black Ops campaign, Sure it was very linear and scripted but throughout the whole experience you felt like a complete bad ass and killing the shit out of the enemies is a lot of fun. Also, In my opinion the Single player in A lot of modern FPS games is sort of like a really great addition to the already brilliant multiplayer rather than being something that you explicitly buy the game for. 0.2$

  • @ErikTheAndroid Yeah I agree with that. I only really buy the game to play the campaign to find out what the old/new characters are getting up to and also, to feel a sort of realism that they have kept throughout the game series. Even if the realism doesn't seem...well...'real', I still believe it keeps some real life in the game.

  • that game is as straight forward as call of duty which no longer have good campains anymore

  • I didn't think DNF was THAT bad, it was kinda ok, but ofcourse nowhere as good as Duke Nukem 3D.

But I have to agree on the fact that almost every FPS game coming out now has horrible linearity just like you mentioned.

I also hope more FPS design like DN3D could come out nowadays, but most gamers nowadays are from another generation and a LOT of them don't even know the classics like DN3D, DOOM, Heretic and those. And I'm only 16 and I did play them all at my younger age. I'm proud of that. :)

  • @Royboy94 Fun thing to know: Gearbox were going to release "Duke Nukem: Reloaded", which would be Duke Nukem 3D in the Unreal Engine, but that was cancelled, due to copyright bullshit... :(

  • @TheBlackOpticFTW That sucks :(

    R.I.P FPS games :'(

  • @Royboy94 Nooo, don't be sad, we cann still hope for Call of Duty!... *bursts out in tears*

  • @TheBlackOpticFTW I prefer the old COD games in WW2 :P

  • @Royboy94 Actually, me too :3

Now I ususally mostlyl play CoD1 and WaW.

    ... and sometimes BF3 :P

  • @Royboy94 Don't forget the humor. Not "RAPE STRIPPERS FAGS SEXISM HUR HUR AM I EDGY YET" but actual humor. DN3D was cheeky and immature in a good-natured way; DNF was /b/-level douchebaggery.

  • @TheOtherLioyd Yeah, totally true indeed. :)

  • i do miss mirror's edge graphic style...

that is the only colorful fps that comes to my mind

  • @Baofuru

Mirror's Edge can barely count as an FPS. It's a platformer with some shooting bits.

But I did hear that DICE is interested in making a sequel. With their sexy Frostbite 2 engine who knows how good it's art style would look.

  • i miss ..( and i think most of the ppl do) the days were games were designed to be hard throwing rocks in your way to make it harder but dont force you to a diffrent way like the very first fallout games (1 + 2) from interplay where your were able to play for hours just to find a solution for your quest doesnt matter if it was talking stealing or killing the things you need...

today you get shit like MW and so on and have to pay even more for such loveless work... no way im buying a SP game

  • This was actually the very first time I heard him giving a game such a negative criticism with such consistency. I mean, only in the two videos on singleplayer, he went on and on about how dull, linear, repetitive and boring it felt.I think he made some good points, although I can't tell from, as I haven't played it. BUT this video certainly made me question some of the hype this game had got before its release and realise that your game does not only need to be named after your franchise..gjTB =D

  • lol hes on about no secrets and all ego boosts are in plain site but then he misses a hidden ego boost in the level hes playing lol

  • lol there ARE eastereggs ... pfft

  • Not sure why he thinks crysis 2 is great its still linear with a few blatent pointers for consoles.
