No woman goes through this for fun! My ovaries are trying to kill me! I have cancer that feeds on estrogen....what do you propose? I keep the estrogen factories and die? I'd rather live with ALL those possible side effects and see my kids grow up....than die because estrogen is killing me.
Whether surgical procedure is necessary or unnecessary, that does not change the anatomical facts concerning the uterus or its surgical removal, basic information that is not dependent on trust, skill, surgical outcomes or lack of understanding of these facts. But it should be noted that hysterectomy is normally recommended for non-life threatening conditions because that is the current standard of practice.
Come on now! Who posted this video? Must have been an irresponsible individual. Yes we need to be informed, but not scared out of a surgery that's a "last resort" and not cosmetic. I'm so glad I had my robotic TAH. I still have my ovaries, same weight, sex drive intact, no bowel/bladder issues, and my mood has actually improved My husband said, "Baby, you should of had this surgery years ago!" So, ask your doctor lots of questions, pray, follow instructions, stay positive and you will do great.
@1suepig These are facts about the lifelong functions of the female organs, and what happens when they are removed. You may have some sex drive, but women cannot have the uterine contractions that occur during orgasm. This should not frighten women, it should inform and educate them so that if they are told they need a hysterectomy they can investigate the best alternative in treatment.
@1suepig Can you imagine your husband's response if he had his penis amputated, if you had said "Baby, you should of had this surgery years ago!"??? During victorian times women were hysterectomized to curb their sexuality. Sadly, it worked.
It should be noted that simply because the medical community continues to utilize ineffective treatments for benign female gyn conditions - does not then make hysterectomy necessary. The anatomical facts of this video and the loss of uterine and/or ovarian functions do not change based on prayer, bravado, or a lack of acknowledgement of these facts.
well, I am now getting ready to have a hysterectomy at 34 years old, and of course I am deeply disturbed and frightened. In my situation, I don't know what else to do. I already have a lot of problems that are stated as side effects in this video because of my uterus. I am just hoping that without it maybe something will get better.
Oh my goodness bernadette188!!! Why would you put this on here to scare people? It's one thing to have a hysterectomy for minor issues, but what about cancer? What would you do if you were told your uterus was invaded by cancer, ask them to just leave it in there? You've made this a very scary situation, but I'm glad I listened to my oncologist and had the surgery, despite what you've said in your video. Why don't you try encouragment to other women, instead of fear tactics?
keep your cervix if possible. Removing it leaves you with a painful scar cuff that would doesn't stretch.during sex. Your organs have less support without the cervix.
@metalmullishlexie12 This is basic anatomy. You cannot experience uterine orgasm without a uterus. A small number of women have slight vaginal wall contractions, which may be what you are experiencing. As one woman who had experienced uterine contractions with orgasm before her uterus was removed, she the slight vaginal wall contractions she now experiences said "Uterine contractions are diving off the high dive, vaginal wall contractions are like sliding into the water."
From the standpoint of a man, I concur entirely. My ex wife insisted on having a total hysterectomy six years ago. Two years ago she required bladder surgery. All the changes mentioned in your coverage happened with her. It was something we lived with until she became a chronic liar and an embezzler. We divorced on Nov. 5 of this year after 26 years of marriage, and the Greatest Daughter on Planet Earth. Thank God! There is life after hysterectomy, at least for me.

@avienne66 and jerrschica: If you have had no problems since undergoing a hysterectomy why are you searching for information about the consequences of the surgery?
@bernadette188 Wrong again. No, NOT every hysterectomy involves shortening the vagina. You make it sound like that is the case for every woman, and it is not. It's becoming common to leave the cervix intact. I have mine. Again, orgasm feels the SAME AS BEFORE. Indeed, sometimes it's even better! You need to stop coming off like you know everything about every woman's case. There are plenty of women telling you from personal experience that you are wrong. And here's a health writer adding to it.
@bernadette188 I was not "looking" for information about hysterectomy. I came across your video when doing research to show someone else. The information in this video is incorrect in many places. I thought long and hard about my surgery before having it. The FACT is that sex drive and pleasure are affected more by ovarian function than the uterus. And even there, the health of the woman's relationship matters most. No ovaries, no uterus, still wanting and loving sex here. Go figure.
Maybe to help others who have to have the same surgery we had to have and keep HACKS like you from scaring women from having a surgery that could literally give them their lives back!
@jerryschica Why are you so intent upon women not being informed of the functions of the female organs and the consequences of the surgery? Every woman has a right to know the consequences of hysterectomy.
The facts in the anatomy video are irrefutable. They are what happens to a woman's body when the female organs are removed. If you were worried about pregnancy, I could see where sex would have improved, otherwise, women do not experience improved sex without their sex organs.
A majority (if not all) of the women who have had hysterectomy is because they had things going on that made it physically impossible to keep this organ in their bodies be it pain, bleeding to the point of it being life threatening, or disease!NONE of the women who had it done for those reasons WANTED their uterus taken from their bodies, but found it necessary to be able to have a healthy and productive life! You were very irresponsible!
@jerryschica Exactly. Every woman owes it to herself to get second, or even third, opinions. There is nothing wrong with taking time to grill your doctors and surgeons about your body, and even in getting dissenting opinions on your particular case. Likewise, you owe it to yourself to get the best surgeon you can find. What is irresponsible is videos like this, which contain errors about human physiology. The fact that women like you and I still have GREAT sex only proves the point.
@avienne66 HERS video, "Female: the Functions of the Female Organs" was vetted by two gynecologists and a medical school professor of Gross Anatomy. We welcome your critique and correction of anything in the video which is incorrect. In particular you stated "What is irresponsible is videos like this, which contain errors about human physiology". We would greatly appreciate knowing specifically any errors you found. Thank you.
Two months ago I almost lost my life due to excessive abnormal bleeding. For years I postponed hysterectomy, and ended having it in an inappropiate condition because of irresponsible fear. It's been 43 days since total hysterectomy and I'm doing great. I've found all over the internet women reporting increase of sexual desire, I heard that also from women I know. Find a good surgeon and be careful with anemia.
In general the best approach to a symptom like heavy bleeding is to find out the cause of the bleeding and treat the cause rather than having the female organs removed. With regard to sex after hysterectomy, you cannot experience uterine orgasm without a uterus.
There's a lot of rubbish in this video. At 3:24 they make it sound like a hysterectomy practically makes a woman numb. ABSOLUTELY NOT. I had a hysterectomy in June of 2009. Initially, there was *some* diminished feeling, but I still felt plenty of sensation. Now, just over a year later, I'm MORE sensitive. Why? Because nerves regenerate. Oh, and my bladder and bowel are just fine. Better than before, actually.
i'm still gettting an ooperectomy and i'm not even as old as 15 yet. i really don't care about feeling freaky and what not. i just don't want kids....ever. but congrates top the people who had kids. may ur life be as happy as can be. LUV YUH!!
This video had some interesting info I wish I had seen it before I had my LAVH/BSO in April of 09.... I too like Naturebound am having problems that I did not have before the surgery....The constant pain in my left leg and the buldge that is now present in my left side are a daily reminder of that.... If I had to do it over I would choose something else.
omg so if u remove whats down there ur ribcage will sink down onto ur hips? that must be HORRIBLE to lose ur sexy curves and stuff.... o.o ... poor other womans...

If your doctor tells you you need a hysterectomy, please watch this video first, your doctor is legally able to trick you for money, with false information, they have used for decades to line their pockets.
The issue is one of information to make a fully informed decision about whether a woman will agree to have her hormone responsive, reproductive sex organs removed. To make that decision she needs information about female anatomy, the functions of the female organs, and what happens to a woman's body when her sex organs are removed.
I had an LAVH/BSO two years ago and now suffer with debilitating fibromyalgia as well as osteoporosis of the spine, despite using bioidentical hrt. I also have chronic pelvic/pubic bone pain, low back pain, and many many other problems I did not have before. I would NEVER do this again!!!!
