Just out of curiosity, why is beef so expensive in South Korea? I find that pork and chicken are usually cheaper. I've never purchased brisket before... is it a cheaper cut of beef? How much does it typically cost per kilogram (am I using the correct unit of measurement?)
It's because the land is small in korea.. and it's not easy to raise cow which means.. Koreans don't have that many cows as America has.. that's why it's expensive.. I've been living in USA for 4 years.. so I don't know how much the beef cost in Korea now.. sorry..^^:
Thank you for sharing your recipe -- my grandmother would make this soup every New Year and I am looking forward to preparing it for my own family. God bless you!
Looks absolutely delicious! One question, though. What kind of rice cakes do you use? Could I use Japanese Kirimochi, or is there a lot of difference with the Korean kind?
Oh... I don't know about Japanese Kirimochi.. so I can't give you right answer about that..sorry..Instead I will send you a link for the rice cakes I use from my blog. :)
OMG Aeri, this dish looks really good. I wish I could eat like that everyday. I also thought the presentation was really nice, bringing out the white and yellow contrast from eggs. Simply fabulous and very nicely done. I want to try this one day..gosh, I love rice cakes and soup.
oh~~~ in Korea.. we consider..one bowl of new year soup means.. getting one age older..kkkk.(kind of as a joke..). if you eat this everyday.. oh~~~ hehe.... thank you for your detailed comment about the food. :D
Oh yea? Well, in that case, I'll hold out from eating this soup until I turn 80 years old and then when I finally can't wait any longer, I'll eat this soup 3 times a day until I expire in 2 weeks. LOL :)
ok, I will look. I never saw it before.
