  • This video is too full of "spaz" to be helpful. Too much yap yap, spastic camera, and way too long.

  • OMG 34x2 equal 68 not 78

  • my head is dissy from all that fast paced moving.

  • Can I expect the same result with a zalmanVf 3000 A at a Hd 5850 ?

I dont mean the same temps etc. I mean that the Zalman cooler is better than the Icy Vision rev. 2 :D

  • i personally think the stock 480 cooler looks beast with the heatpipe sticking out

  • to be 100% acurate you have to try all three coolers on the same card..

  • @PaRan0iiid no not really, troll.

  • @AsianPerson3 trol is your father maybe but other a little bit clever person could know that each hip is a little bit different (heat spread) so the results may vary

  • @PaRan0iiid awwwwww poor baby QQ bitch!!!!! btw wtf is a hip. never heard of one on a gpu. You truly know jack shit about computers. you're free to GTFO.

  • @AsianPerson3 hip is a chip without "c" letter stupid fuck. Im possibly older then your father baby boy ;) so better for you to get some rice and beef a dog

  • @AsianPerson3 You may be older. But my dad is way more intelligence and mature than you'll ever be. I'm sorry your life amounted to a small knoll of shit. But it really gives you no reason to troll people on the internet. Unplug your computer and maybe give your grandchildren a visit for the holidays. Or better yet. Go kill yourself in a nice quiet secluded area. My condolences to your family. If they still care.

  • @AsianPerson3 , yeah really dipshit. It's only a fair comparison if you used the same GPU, TIM, method of applying the TIM and the amount of it.

  • @sinephase aww QQ baby QQ go have mommy change ur stinky diaper, bitch...

  • @AsianPerson3 do you even know what QQ means? You're wrong, get over it.

  • linus,, i'll give you 2 times 34 euro if you give me 78 euro <=]

  • That Gelid Icy Vision, Would it be worth buying it for a 580 ?

  • @Spartan117A1

buy a DCII version of this card ^^

  • @luukske21 If I asked if an aftermarket cooler was worth buying, One would assume I already have said video card.

Which I do. A reference model.

  • He hooked up the Gelid Icy Vision to the GPU's fan header, but the Gelid Icy Vision doesn't support RPM control through the regular PWM headers.

At 6:45, Linus even mentions that it sounds exactly the same at 100%

He should've hooked it up to a 3-pin fan header on the motherboard and control it through voltage control (by bios or Speedfan)

The interesting thing about this cooler, is it's ability to cool efficiently at very low speeds:

  • 2:28 copy of windows is not genuine LOL

  • 2:28 copy of windows is not genuine

  • I don´t hope that your roomtemp is about 30° because that is hot

  • @lukyluke993 30°F Isn't hot.

  • @AsianPerson3 Oh sorry i think he means 30°C my fault

  • does overclocking reduces the life or risk the videocard??

  • @degaboss Sorta. Yeah.

  • nice keyboard! i hate my logitech G110....

  • This video shows me why I prefer reading articles. Can the camera be any more ADHD?

  • the zotac amp cooler is actually a zalman

  • nice pen

  • guys, i keep my fan on 100% on my 9800gt 24/7, is that bad?

  • @mushfarm I don't think so; but beware of condensation!

  • What is the name of the program he is using? I would like to know, since I want to have 100% control over my PCs temperature, any ideas?

    /Mathias921

  • Yes its pretty ovious. Get an MSI Twin FrozR II Card cuz its quiet, better at cooling, good looking, and only dual slot!

  • Most important shit: Apples to apples comparison. If you set one to 80%, make sure others do 80% as well.

  • can anyone answer me? can i run Zotac NVIDIA GTX 480 amp edition in 4 way sli with evga 4 way sli? with haf x silverstone 1500w? anyone please?

  • @TheWeblocker Maby 4 gtx 480s took 1050 watts or close to that.

  • @TheWeblocker

No, the AMP! Edition takes 3 slots in total, so unfortunately that's not going to work.

  • @TheWeblocker if you buy a Asrock extreme 6 ,

the pci e slots will be 4 slots away from each other .

so you can run 3 way SLI on a cheap mobo and get high overclock results.

its a real cool mobo from asrock.

they are no longer budget crap to my opinion.

  • @ImmortalUniverse

    Agreed i have the extreme3 880g and it's wonderful

  • I bought the Zotac Amp based on this review, while i dont doubt his results at all, maybe he got a special sample, mine behaves really well at idle, 35C, but at furmark with extreme burning mode... i can hit 100C, and btw with evga precision, which should be the same as msi afterburner, you can enable the fan to ramp up (check the fan tab), i have reached 93% fan speed, still i can go 100C. Good thing is games like SC2 i never even pass 60C, but im worried in more demanding games.

  • @Pabula its depends on your own risk hehe

  • Comment removed

  • What about arctic cooling's solution? The Accelero Xtreme Plus. How does it compare to the Zotac version?

  • Wish I had know about these. I had 2 480s for four days. They failed due to heat corruption of the VRAM. Unfortunately they also killed the new Rampage III motherboard as well. While I have now got all my money back (cept for the board which I agreed I wanted replaced) Maybe they should warn you that for SLI you will realistically need additional cooling beyond what they supply on it. The noise from them was ridiculous even though I play in a room climate controlled at 23 degrees

  • The less delta the better.

  • My Computer crashes cause my gtx 470 is getting so hot ...so whre can i buy this?

  • @Tomy0791 ebay

  • @Tomy0791

    1. open up your case

    2. is it overclocked? have you turned up the fans?

    3. get a better case :p

  • @Tomy0791 hi i also have an GTX470 from evga i installed evge precision and put my stock fan on 50% and i am now idling at 40C and when i go gaming i put the fan on 90% temp always stays below 80C

i hoped this might have helped you

  • what kinda program are you using?

  • Nice Review!!! Thank you very much :)

  • IS the amp cooler just the zalman vf3000f?

  • @Kg363 obviously, mind the big VF3000 on it

  • @Kg363 I know it is a zalman cooler myself, but not 100% sure what model it is =]

Works awesome though and so quiet!!

  • Congrats Linus

For buying the most expensive Room Heater in the World that can do Graphics Processing :-

THE ZOTAC GTX 480 AMP! EDITION

  • 0:58 a plane...

  • @blasbembi an airforce base is more like it XD

  • This copy of Windows is not genuine xD

  • @wwyk1993 i love how he never uses genuine windows, go linus :D

  • @masterchief3k I love how you don't know that if you change your hardware too often you will get this message, go masterchief3k :D

  • thinking about getting one of the AMP edition cards. My main question is if it can run multiple monitors simultaneously. I was thinking about hooking up 2 DVI monitors and an HDMI one. To my understanding, those are the ports it has and I was just wondering if all of them can be utilized together.

  • Nice maths ;) 34+34=78 and 40+34=84. Someone needs to give me that job while you go back school .

  • and also 40 + 34 = 84 ? lol

  • 7:50 34 + 34 = 78?

  • @dazza2708 & 40 + 34 = 84º

  • @dazza2708 68

  • @dazza2708 You don't know how to convert between F and C do you...

  • @AsianPerson3 Yes i do, and how is that relevant? Everything he is doing here he is keeping to C*

  • @dazza2708 Hes taking ambient temp at F

  • @AsianPerson3 No, he isn't. 1:03

  • @dazza2708 can some body tell me my GPU temperature is minimum 38 max 39 im talking about GTS 240 nividia can anybody tell me is that ok or not?

  • @babariana1 Are you sure those are load temps ? They are pretty darn good :)

  • @dazza2708

yes dear im sure 100% kindly can u help me regarding...im planing to buy my new pc can u guide me...?

  • thanks a lot for the great great comparison! saves me from buying another much too loud card! the zotac seems just like the right solution for gaming :)

  • i have my fans at 100%

  • @LLOYD19851012 on what?

  • When will the new Zalman VF3000F Series for Fermi release?

It's exactly the same cooler as the amp edition by the looks of it

really looking forward to these coolers for cooling my gtx 480 :)

  • nice fan

  • Do you ever get tired of the latest...newest...greatest....better than last months version, options, versions, compatibility...conflict...oh my gosh, it just goes on forever. and ever, and ever...I just had a gtx 285 and now its looking old, sod it, im stickin with it forever then Im throwing it away and getting a mac....for a few million years, sigh, sigh..neverends...

  • "34 -> 78" lol it would be "34 -> 68"

same goes for the 40 deg one.

    Beside that, nice video mate.

  • LOL he fails at simple arithmetic

  • dude will u ever get off nvidias nuts?

  • lol he is bad in maths :p

  • amp for ftw

  • ILLIGAL WINDOWS !!! bad linus xD

  • my room is 31 degres c and it is about as cool as it gets :/

  • 34 + 34 = 68 ( not 78 and yes i know he probably just got distracted)

  • Air cooling is for noobs!

  • What's the deal here. All the other reviews have the zotac just as loud as reference(around 46dBa) and the icy vision quieter than reference idle while running max! Why do you seem to be suggesting that the zotac is quieter, and that the icy vision has an annoying sound?

  • @Celeras

The results seem to speak for themselves, the zotac was silent, the icy wasn't and i've seen reviews that state that the zotac amp gtx480 was quieter than the case fans in the system so noise was a non issue, i believe that was hexus.

Where did you hear people saying that it's louder than the stock cooler?

  • @ToKnowAndBeKnown

You cant post links in comments, so I don't know what you expect me to show you(I'll message a link). For others interested, google the techpowerup review for the ZOTAC 480 AMP, and navigate to page 28.

The results DO speak for themselves.. this video of what this particular guy 'thinks' he hears does not match up to what the results actually are. Hence my initial question. The Gelid Icy Vision is under 30dBA at max speed... the zotac amp is 46dBA at idle.

  • @Celeras

Just the name of the website that performed the review would have sufficed.

A likley exlaination is that that the tests were performed in different cirsumstances with different cases, here you can see both cards in the exact same situation

This result is disappointing to me personally, as i can get a pov gtx480 and gedit icy vision for £350 here in the uk however the zotacs will cost £400 and i intend to buy two.

  • @Celeras

It was not just what linus thought he heard, it was what came through the camera as well, the icy ivsion was noticeably more audible, but did not perform as well as the zotacs.

The thing with online reviews is that there are often discrepancies between them and often discrepanies between them and real world results, it's up to you to make a descision on why you think there are any discrepancies if they occur.

  • @Celeras no offense - but i don't give a shit on measurements - if i dont hear it (with my own ears) it is just the right thing - no matter what anyone measures under comparable conditions - in fact the card isn't getting as warm so the fans don't need to speed up as much

seeing (hearing) is believing - enough seen - buying the zotac :)

  • @lamilumag

Feel free, doesn't change the fact that the Zotac is far, far louder than the Icy Vision.

  • 40C idle 50C load on a gtx 470 with a waterblock FTW

  • Hm... is it possible to SLI and use the cooler, if you use 1st and 3rd PCI slot?

  • @UNICORNxGUNDAM - that is what he said.

  • LOL

  • Dude its been 3 days since this video! Where's the next one :D

U gone on vocation or what?:P

  • Would an AMD Phenom II x4 945 (running at 3.0GHz) bottleneck the Zotac 480 Amp if I was to run at 1920x1080 with max graphic settings?

  • Comment removed

  • @gtrplyr5204 Depending on what game you play.

GTA IV or ARMA II - Yes but it will run great anyhow

Crysis / Metro 2033 / BC 2 - Nope the 480will be maxed out but not the CPU

  • @carlssonn So when there is a bottleneck, is it really THAT noticeable or is it just a few fps?

  • If you stopped talking, we might be able to hear the fan.

  • Still extremely happy with the Gelid Icy Vision in spite of all this, probably because I installed it myself.;o)

Extremely interesting vid, though, and thanks very much for showing us thiese results.

  • what software do you use to increase fan speed and overclock

  • @kennztube MSI Afterburner

  • what do you use to ovefclock

  • @kennztube hes using msi afterburner

  • Who cares if he is shit at maths, he has the dream job we all know we want :)

who doesn't wanna own the best computer and a computer selling company as his job :)

call me gay but i'm extremely jealous of Linus

  • This guy has an infinite money hack on life.

  • what keyboard is he using?

  • @mechpilotace123 SteelSeries 7G keyboard

  • dude mine only runs at like 65c to 70c on that and its the stock cooler asus gtx 480

  • Rofl math fail @ 7:50

    34+34 = 78........

It was a long day so we understand

  • woo...Linus's inaugural handwriting video...looks like my handwriting as well...LOL

  • Great vid!

  •  ▲

    ▲ ▲

  • Why the fuck is your room 30 degrees?

My room is ALWAYS bellow 20 degrees. Hell, I don't even run the AC.

Although during the winter I am generally around 0-10.

I am just too cheap to run the heater or the air conditioner.

  • @aaren117

It could be the fact that he probably doesn't live in your room, or the same part of town, or the same house structure, and maybe he probably doesn't live in your town, and possibly the same state, and maybe the same country.

  • @TheVeRaK Idk thats pretty questionable...

  • @aaren117 man... you really have a great tolerance for low temps.

  • @theutman I am mostly scandinavian, I like the cold.

  • 87*C OMG!!! Will that damage the card? Cuz its like not meant to be hot?

  • @50LightSabersInAPack Ive had mine at 100C, of course the system shuts down automatically at that point, but no permanent damage done.

  • Love the video Linus ;)

  • Steelseries 7G, Best no bullshit gaming keyboard.

  • That it is better to buy?

    А то я запутался ))

  • linus use oem to get rid of the windows is not genuine crap

  • Lol 38 degrees hot even in summer?

it gets to ~46 degrees here ;D

  • @Borridd It gets to 52 degrees here.

  • 40+34 = 84?

  • Want to donate the GTX 480 with stock cool to me? O would really love that.

  • ASUS > zotac

  • That Zotac card was amazing. Super quiet.

  • 34 + 34 = ???? = 78 :)

  • OMG Linus knows how to write............

  • nice results but the thing is a lot of motherboard wont support triple cooler in sli

  • mmm somene correct me if im confuse... but isnt @ symbol for alfa?¿ i think delta is a triangle

  • If you are buy gear this high end, why would you not water cool it? It's easy and much more quit.

  • Your copy of Windows 7 is not genuine! 5:58

  • @Kyonamsu wow you're right!

  • why is he always looking at the fan speed percents? different fans -> different maximum rpm.

he should have checked the actual fanspeed (rpm) using hardwaremonitor or everest or some other tools ...

  • Well the results are quite obvious that the Zalcman wins. If you don't show us vrm and dram voltages, then this was a waste of 9 minutes... why do I find this Linus thinks that we're all idiots and don't know basic math like deltas and stuff? otoh he misses out on what we actually came here for: finding out if the vrm's dram and physx chip are adequately cooled.

  • hehehe your windows 7 is not genuine

  • @chino555 read comment before do somthing -.-

  • Your copy of windows is not genuine...Linus, Are you using torrents?

  • Isnt the symbol for delta a triangle? ▲, like that, but rather the outline only.. You are using the @ symbol :) Nice video, great info

  • @SkitAnon nah i think its "at" as in [ 40 degrees(delta) "@" 80% fan speed ]....the @ symbol is just an "at"

  • @SkitAnon It's actually Δ.

  • Need to do it in a case for me to buy it

  • LOL - 2:16 See monitor - This copy of windows is not genuine. :DDD

  • @RedSunCZE it is, he just havent registered yet, he told that in another video.

  • @RedSunCZE *groan* He's explained why that is. You aren't telling us anything we don't already know. *random meaningless emote repeated*

Go find something important to do, kiddo.

  • @RedSunCZE immature idiot. How about you do a clean fresh install of windows for every godamn test bench configuration during a benchmark??

  • @RedSunCZE LOL Nice find.

  • @RedSunCZE Lawl

  • @RedSunCZE RemoveWatt 2.25 : P

  • @RedSunCZE ye, but linus actually have a genuine copy of windows. he just refuses to go through the process of activation every single time he changes a piece of hardware (which he does often)

  • @RedSunCZE thats because it's a beta version

  • is any motherboard that has 2 PCIE x16 slots support SLI or crossfire??

  • @THEMRJISHERE Yes. It is the Asus M4A89GTD Pro. I have actually just got this motherboard and it is great :)

  • sexy letter

  • Well the cooler on the amp is the zalman fan right? So you could just buy it when it's released separately and stick it on a car that isn't from zotac.
