  • As reported in the NY Times, Jan 28 2011: "Arctic Waters Warmer Than in 2,000 Years". Thomas Marchitto, a paleoclimatologist at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and a co-author of the study stated: “It doesn’t necessarily prove that the change that we see is man-made, but it does strongly point toward this being an unusual event,” Dr. Marchitto said. “On a scale of 2,000 years, it stands out dramatically as something that does not look natural.”

  • "For years, the vast majority of the scientific community have agreed that mankind is responsible for global warming. Lomborg, a Danish professor, was one a rare breed of scientist that dismissed this consensus, thus serving as a convenient source whom other skeptics, including prominent American businessmen, could point too for added validity. "

    WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG???

  • (Aug. 31 AOL News) -- Bjorn Lomborg, science's most notable climate change skeptic, has changed his mind. In a new book to be published next month, Lomborg calls for $100 billion to be spent annually to tackle global warming.

  • AUG 15, 2010, FAIRBANKS (Fairbanks Daily News-Miner) — Fairbanks set a new high temperature record Sunday with a temperature of 91 degrees at Fairbanks International Airport. The previous record for Sunday was 86 degrees in 1926.

  • In Case You Missed It:

"Last month [June 2010] was the warmest June on record worldwide, according to a report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Warmer-than-average conditions were present across nearly all continents, including much of the United States, according to the organization's State of the Climate report, released Friday.

June was also the FOUTH CONSECUTIVE MONTH IN A ROW OF RECORD WARMTH WORLDWIDE." CNN

  • the scam is the fossil fuel industry/rightwing/and nazi's spreading their lies .....

global warming is mostly man-made, believe the scientists so we can save our planet and ourselves

  • @stopglobalwarming08 DID YOU EVER HEAR ABOUT THE ICE AGES? THE EARTH HAS WARMED AND COOLED SEVERALTIMES IN THE PAST, THE LAST ICE AGE WAS AT ITS HEIGHT ABOUT 10 THOUSAND YEARS AGO. THERE WERE FOSSIL TREES IN THE OPEN PIT COAL MINES UP ALONG THE GLENN HJGHWAY WITH GROWTH RING ABOUT 3/8 OF AN INCH SO WHAT DO YOU THINK THE CLIMATE WAS LIKE WHRN THOSE TREES WERE GROWING?GEOLOGIC TIME IS MEASURED IN EONS BUT THE SO CALLED SCIENTISTS HAVE NOT EVEN CONSIDERED OTHER FACTORS THAN TEMPRATURE RECORDS.

  • Please watch my video.

It's about climate change, earth catastrophe and our planet as we lives in.

Recent Earth catastrophes, it's about Earth Changes - Continental Drift: One huge continent became 2 continents,

then 5 (or 6) and then?

  • No scientific body of national or international standing has maintained a dissenting opinion of anthropogenic climate change since the American Association of Petroleum Geologists adopted its current position in 2007. Still, it is possible they are wrong. So what are the risks if they are? What if they are not? Google video, "How it all ends." It will be the first one. It is the first of a series of videos to help you understand the risks involved so you can make a cost/benefit analysis,

  • "NOAA recently reported that the decade of 2000-2009 was the warmest on record worldwide; the previous warmest decade was the 1990s. Most atmospheric scientists believe that warming is largely due to human actions, adding gases to the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas."

  • BRRRRRRR!! How about that global warming!!!

  • i think sarah palin should really see what's really happening in alaska

  • Western Antarctic ice sheets have thickened a lot recently. The climate is always changing. The c02 levels follow warming by hundreds of years according to every chart I can find. This is natural. Just like the Chinese reporting little ice in the Arctic Sea in the early 1000's.

  • Thanks for your analysis of the CO2/temp relationship but you miss much. For example: In the geologic record it does appear that CO2 increases follow temp increases. What you miss is that fact that humans weren't in the equation. Now we are and have become a driver of temps by increasing the GHG levels. As we "unnaturally" increase temps natural CO2 levels will increase. This aggravates the problem.

    P.S. Antarctic thickening was expected

  • Sea levels have been rising for 20,000 years. And were rising FASTER before fossill fuel use. AVG. sea level rise was about 2 feet (24in) per century before fossil fuel use- less than 8 in. in our century. Thats not even half the historical average.

  • Death is also natural. Therefore, man cannot cause death to others??????

  • Well, the swiss glaciers are turning into lakes, but CO2 is probably not the main man-made cause. They don't get enough snow anymore. The winters are becoming dryer. I suspect: not enough natural vegetation anymore, just like the Sahara for 2000 years: most of it was still green!

  • Chinese government measured snowlines receded by more than 50m over 10 years in Southern China. In the north also receding rapidly. Tourist attractions that used to be perennial snow cap are gone before the eyes of the public in travel shows.

Dalai Lama is also concern about the melting glaciers in Tibet. Normads on the Tibetan plateau see the landscape changes yearly. At times, it is even recognise certain places.

Greenhouse emission global warming is ruining our planet badly.

  • More good data explaining why we're experiencing the warming today relative to CO2 levels and solar output

This is a very informative video. uploaded yesterday about CO2 levels and why they are rising in the past 30 years when the output of the sun has been more or less constant...and it also debunks global warming denier claims about the Ordovician period, which is the best part:

  • Pretty soon the financial dept in America wont be the worst thing our offspring will worry about. 200 degree temperatures will

  • An increase in Solar Irradiance HAS NOT caused global warming. So, what has?? That's the question. Sea levels are going up TWICE as fast as 50 years ago. Atmospheric CO2 is going up TWICE as fast as 50 years ago. Greenland ice sheet calving is occurring TWICE as fast as it was 10 years ago. Do you see a pattern??? I'll bet you don't. • Glaciers and ice caps have actually been retreating since the last glacial maximum 18,000 years ago- if that ever reverses- we have some REAL problems to worry about!

  • that's too sad, and I've seen it first-hand up there too

  • Oct 15, 2009 LONDON, England (CNN) -- New data released Thursday suggests that the Arctic Ocean will be "largely ice free" during summer within a decade.

"Arctic sea ice holds a central position in our Earth's climate system. Take it out of the equation and we are left with a dramatically warmer world," Martin Sommerkorn from the WWF International Arctic Program.

  • Sept 4, 2009 - Warmest Arctic temperatures for 2,000 years, says new study (CNN). Arctic temperatures in the 1990s reached their warmest level of any decade in at least 2,000 years, new research indicates. The study presents new evidence that the Arctic would be cooling if not for greenhouse gas emissions overpowering natural climate patterns.

  • UN chief 'alarmed' at Arctic glacier melt

by Jacqueline Pietsch Tue Sep 1, 4:41 pm ET

NY-AALESUND, Norway (AFP) UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said Tuesday he was "alarmed" by the rate at which the Arctic's glaciers are retreating as he visited the region ahead of key climate talks in December.

Ban said world leaders had a "moral political responsibility" to safeguard the future of the planet.

  • Their are glaciers in alaska that are retreating, but glaciers have retreated to their end and reformed many times in Earths history. I was just at the Gulkana glacier in AK not long ago which is advancing.

  • I sure miss living in Alaska and walking on the Matanuska Glacier. What a beautiful video!!!

  • Aug 7 '09 (CNN) -- U.S. scientists monitoring shrinking glaciers in Washington State and Alaska reported this week that a major meltdown is under way. A 50-year government study found that the world's glaciers are melting at a rapid and alarming rate. The ongoing study is the latest in a series of reports that found glaciers worldwide are melting faster than anyone had predicted they would just a few years ago. It offers a clear indication of an accelerating climate change and warming earth.

  • If anyone goes to my channel, they will see some very interesting videos concerning the climate crisis. For those of you who are skeptical, take a look at each and very single one of them (the ones regarding the climate crisis). • really? great!

  • The EPA's report "Assessment of the Impacts of Global Change on Regional U.S. Air Quality: A Synthesis of Climate Change Impacts on Ground-Level Ozone," came out today. The study, started in 2000, confirms that greenhouse gas pollution is a serious problem now and for future generations," EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson said in a release, later adding, "The science clearly shows that concentrations of these gases are at unprecedented levels as a result of human emissions,."

  • I'm an American, and I believe in global warming. It happened 200,000 years ago when the ice age ended. Is the science community correct about the ice age? Then if so,it is a natural uncontrollable cycle that we have absolutely no control over. Please comment.

  • Global warming is indeed a fact. The planet can do one of three things {climate-wise}: warm up; cool down; remain steady. Recently it has become warmer, though not much warmer as we continue to break records in the record cold dept. Warmer weather means more food and a decrease in fuel- demand to heat our buildings.

  • When there is no ice presumably a number of species like polar bears will become extinct.

  • were dinosaurs put into extinction due to global warming?

  • Not to mention a sizable amount of the fresh water comes from Glaciers. Good bye glaciers, hello water shortage.

  • In the summer of 2008 Billy Connolly set sail on a ten-week journey from ocean to ocean: from the Atlantic to the Pacific, by way of the North West Passage - a legendary route deep within the Arctic Circle that has thwarted explorers and fortune-hunters for centuries. For Cook, Drake and countless other adventurers, the North West Passage has been an alluring but impossible journey.

Now the Arctic is melting at a rate of 36,000 square miles a year and the journey is finally possible.

  • Roald Amundsen was born on July 16, 1872 in Borge, Norway In 1903 he was the first to sail through the Northwest Passage and around the northern Canadian coast. The journey ended at Herschel Island in the Yukon in 1905.

  • I am not a scientist however the earth is always in a constant change. I feel we may have a part of the change and we do abuse the planet. However the Earth is going to change anyway. What cause the earth to freeze and then thaw? Many questions that seem to have pat answers to fit what "we" want. SO do I believe in global warming? Not to the point as others. Do I believe in trying to protect our resources YES. Lovely video and music. How did we get to see the lovely video. By burning fuel. (?)

  • Feb 12, 2008 CNN

(CNN) -- Climate-driven environmental changes could drastically affect the distribution of more than 1,000 species of commercial fish and shellfish around the world, scientists say.

  • For the first time, researchers using computer models have been able to predict the effect that warming oceans, fed by greenhouse-gas emissions, could have on marine biodiversity on a global scale. A new study predicts that by 2050, large numbers of marine species will migrate from tropical seas toward cooler waters at an average rate of t 25 to 28 miles per decade.

  • These migrations could lead to "numerous extinctions" of marine species outside the Arctic and Antarctic, especially in tropical waters, according to the study's projections.

"These are major impacts that we are going to see within our lifetime and our children's lifetime," said William Cheung, lead author of the study, set to be published this week in the journal Fish and Fisheries.

WASHINGTON The Bush administration is trying to make sure in its final days that federal air pollution regulations will not be used to control the gases blamed for global warming. In a memorandum sent yesterday, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Stephen Johnson sets an agencywide policy prohibiting controls on carbon dioxide emissions from being included in air pollution permits for coal-fired power plants and other facilities.

  • Baltimore Sun, December 19, 2008 (cont. from above)

The decision could give the agency a legal basis for issuing permits that increase global warming pollution until the Obama administration can change it, which would require a lengthy rule-making process

I think nature created humans by the evolution of monkeys and now we are destroying the same nature who created us, and if people thinks like this man we are inabigtrouble

  • WARMING and if nothing is done and ignorant people keeps having no notion about the critical situation we are in the Earth may and probably will eventually collapse for all the damages we have been making to it since human beings exist

"one thing does seem very clear, however; science is only beginning to get a handle on the big picture of global warming. Findings like these tell us it's too early to know for sure if man's impact is affecting things at the political cry of "alarming rates." We may simply be going through another natural cycle of warmer and colder times - one that's been observed through a scientific analysis of the Earth to be naturally occurring for hundreds of thousands of years."

  • Furthermore, the ice age begins when massive snowfalls hit areas like northern quebec and don't melt over summer.

Before this can happen the atmosphere must be charged with moisture, or heat up to some degree.

  • I thought the ice just wanted a change of place, migrated from north to south.

  • Why are all the glaciers (which are so far away), so dirty & covered in black carbon soot? Doesn't this black soot affect coastlines & harbors & isn't it time to investigate this? Btw, has any1 noticed how fossil fuels have put millions of people out of work, caused endless wars & deaths? Are not the souls of vampire people just as black as the oil they suck out of the Earth?

    Climate Change --- Global Dimming

  • One of the best things that you, as an individual can do, is to believe that we really have a problem and that we have the ways and means to fix that problem. When enough people clamor for change, the politicians will listen, and change will happen. Some people become activists, some don't. But we all have the opportunity to vote. And we can all help spread the word. This needs to be the number one priority! climate change is where we need to put the majority of our resources.

  • Hell is hot, it is in the center of the earth, and it is getting bigger. That is what God's word says. All that heat has to go somewhere thus global warming. Just like centuries ago when man was arguing whether the world was flat or round. When all they had to do was look in the Bible and they would have found their answer.(Psalm 103:12) All the answers to global warming, earthquakes, and volcanoes are in God's word as well. If man needs to realize the obvious rather than explaining it away

The North Pole may be briefly ice-free by September as global warming melts away Arctic sea ice, according to scientists from the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colorado. Center scientist Mark Serreze said: "Five years ago, to think that we'd even be talking about the possibility of the North Pole melting out in the summer, I would have never thought it".

"It's a situation where we hate to say we told you so, but we told you so," he said.

  • Absolutley stunning pictures. But the fact is that humanity is a drop in the bucket when it comes to global warming.Volcanos, smoke from wildfires, and the sun do more damage. The Earth in fact is actually cooling, not warming-why?The sun has periods of activeness and inacticeness.Right now were in a period of inactivness. The sun isn't giving out sun-rays-so we should actually be more worried about GLOBAL COOLING, not warming. This warm period is actually a fluke.

  • just wondering how is the sun not giving out heat when it is shining like always?

  • Absolutely gorgeous film. The warming evident on the glaciers is also occurring in Northwest Alaska. In places like Shishmaref, the whole village is condemned because of loss of permafrost - and rising ocean levels.

  • Thanks Paul.

I did indeed watch the Shishmaref YouTube multipart video, and it truly is a tragedy for the Alaska Native Villages...

East Siberia's permafrost contains about 500 Gigatons (1100 trillion pounds) of frozen carbon deposits that are highly susceptible to disturbances as the climate warms.

Once started, irreversible thawing could release 4.4-6.2 trillion pounds of carbon per year into the atmosphere [as] carbon dioxide and methane."

  • what the heck does this have to with anything? the climate changes! hot cold hot cold hot cold. it's the way it's always been, it's nobody's fault because they have a gas guzzling Chevy suburban. people that don't want to drill in Alaska for oil are just unintelligible. we need rice and corn to eat. not change into biofuels. everything around where i live is growing greener, rice and corn are meant to be eaten by humans, not put into machines.

"The U.S. Senate's much anticipated tangle with a landmark bill that would have required the nation to make deep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions responsible for global warming came to an unceremonious end Friday, as proponents failed to muster enough votes to formally consider the legislation. [...] Republicans opposed to the bill called the climate plan unworkable and claimed it would cause undue harm to the U.S. economy."

Have a look at the graph at this EPA web site. It shows the temp increase projections with different emission growth scenerios. It looks like a 1.5 to 3.5 degree Celsius increase ON TOP of what has already occurred!

It would certainly be better to be on the lower range of that scale. Too bad we didn't pay attention to what Gore was saying over 30 years ago.

We'll have to play the cards we have.

  • Up here in Alaska millions acres of white spruce forest on the Kenai have been killed by an explosion of spruce bark beetles since '87. Because of climate change, it has spread to about 38 million spruce. Scientists attribute the beetle infestation to rising average temperatures in South-Central Alaska in both winter and summer. More beetle larvae can survive, and higher summer temperatures allow the insects to mature faster and complete a 2yr life cyle in 1yr. Forests have become moonscapes.

"Sweden's mountains are growing greener. At the border between woods and bare mountain, trees that require warm temperatures, such as oak, elm, maple, and black alder, have become established for the first time in 8,000 years. This is shown in current studies led by Leif Kullman, professor of physical geography at Sweden's Umeå University. The changes are so rapid that plants like fireweed and rowan have even taken root in the gravel up on melting glaciers."

"Going Backwards: Bush Administration: Carbon Dioxide Not a Pollutant

    by Seth Borenstein

WASHINGTON - Carbon dioxide, the chief cause of global warming, cannot be regulated as a pollutant, the Environmental Protection Agency ruled Thursday.

The decision reverses a 1998 Clinton administration position. It means that the Bush administration won't be able to use the Clean Air Act to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from cars.

  • Had the Bush administration decided that carbon dioxide is a pollutant and harmful, it could have required expensive new pollution controls on new cars and perhaps on power plants, which together are the main sources of so-called greenhouse gases."

  • My favorite public comment to the below on the Alaska Daily News website is from someone listed as byankee:

    "Academic Based?

I like their idea of having an 'academic based' conference where the only scientists invited will be the ones that agree with the State's position. I think there are seven scientists on that list-the same ones that are pushing "inteligent design" be taught in our science classes. Alaska could become a true laughing stock by supporting anything like this as science."

  • Alaska Daily News May 4th, 2008

A $2 million program funded with little debate by the Legislature last month calls for using state money to fund an "academic based" conference that highlights contrarian scientific research on global warming. Legislators hope to undermine the public perception of a widespread consensus among polar bear researchers that warming global temperatures and melting Arctic ice threaten the polar bears' survival.

  • There is plenty of Arctic ice left for the polar bears to survive. Polar bears have to travel to thinner ice in order to catch their prey. Unfortunately, many of them die because thin ice is, and always will be, unsafe.

  • The $2 million is also to be used for a national public relations campaign to promote the findings of the conference.

Critics say it's a waste of state money because all the hard scientific research points in the other direction.

"This truly is the conference to nowhere," said University of Alaska researcher Rick Steiner, who has pressed the Palin administration unsuccessfully for five months to release any scientific backup for its position opposing the federal polar bear listing.

  • WASHINGTON — "They aren't the normal calamari. But the jumbo squid now lurking off the Pacific Northwest coast could threaten salmon runs and signal yet another change in the oceans brought on by global warming.

The mystery grows more complicated when scientists start talking about a huge bubble of low-oxygen water off the west coasts of North and South America that seems to be expanding, perhaps because of higher ocean temperatures."

  • ENVIRONMENT: Southern Ocean Nears CO2 Saturation Point

    By Stephen Leahy

BROOKLIN, Canada, May 17 2007 (IPS) - Climate change has arrested the Southern Ocean's ability to absorb greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, researchers announced Thursday.

That will make it more difficult to stabilise carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in the atmosphere and to reduce the risks of extreme forms of global warming.

  • AP report 12:05 p.m. PT, Sat., April. 26, 2008

OTTAWA - A scientific committee that advises Canada's government on endangered species said Friday that climate change is a threat to the survival of the polar bear, but the species does not face extinction.

The Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada determined that the polar bear was a "special concern species" because evidence wasn't strong enough to recommend elevating the polar bear's status to threatened or endangered.

  • Check out the article written by Stephen Schneider (of the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, CO) in NAture (Vol. 270 22/29 Dec 1977) titled "AGAINST INSTANT BOOKS" where he explains why "instant" books often do more to confuse than elucidate the scientific controversies they discuss... Bryson's work predicting an eminent ice age 30 years ago, which became his end-of-career bellyflop, is discussed.

  • True..this is the great our future exitence..carbon dioxide co2 you can make drastic intervent....

  • From BigCityLib in Toronto:

    QUOTE

For a short time during the 1970s, a number of climatologists theorized that the Earth was heading towards an ice-age. Leading this group was Reid Bryson, whose work was the primary inspiration for a number of CIA reports and the book The Weather Conspiracy. At one point, Mr. Bryson wrote that:

  • "There is very important climatic change going on right now, and it's not

merely something of academic interest." Bryson warned, "It is something that, if it continues, will affect the whole human occupation of the earth -- like a billion people starving. The effects are already showing up in a rather drastic way."

  • However, this theory was soon abandoned. Bryson recanted his earlier warnings and eventually retired (in 1986, by my calculations). Meanwhile, the above quote became fodder for a million GW Denier websites, evidence that scientists "can't decide whether we face an ice age or warming".

  • And then, j[in 2007], 87 year old Reid Bryson pops up in the "Wisconsin Energy Cooperative News" , the magazine of the Wisconsin Energy Cooperative, an association of Wisconsin energy producers. In "The Faithful Heretic", he spends a several pages trash-talking the science behind anthropogenic Global Warming, employing most of the standard skeptical talking points.

And suddenly, the guy once ridiculed for being wrong about Global Cooling has become a prophet for GW Deniers everywhere!

  • Pigdemons: You are right about this winter's snowfall around the world. It is going to happen more and more as the planet tries to absorb/dissipate the extra atmospheric energy. Some of these atmospheric models are predicting such weird things as snow in August in the lower 48 states, 90 degree days in central North America in November and December, more tornados, and mega hurricanes/typhoons. It's going to happen even if all the air pollution stops now because of a decades-long-delayed-reaction
