  • got one dog, that is labrador, golden and flatcoat, most flatcoat.. LOVE her with all my heart, and she is so beatiful !<3

  • I love flat coats and have two of my own! I cannot see why they are not more popular than they currently are, because the make such good family pets and working dogs alike! They are just so loveable, attractive and gentle - everything you would ever want in a family dog! A real fun, loving and playful dog!

  • I have a flat coated retriever! Her name is Sisi. She is so nice! She loves kids, and adults

  • Flat coats are such a beautiful, loyal and truly loving breed of dog.

my Loki never failed to put a smile on my face, she would come over for a big cuddle whenever i felt down (it's like she knew!!). We only had her for a short 6 years before we found out she had a fatal tumour in her tummy, and had her put to sleep. It's like losing a family member!

they are such devoted doggies and always do their best to please you.

    RIP Loki. x

  • my two flatcoats died :( they meant every thing to me looking at this makes me real sad i had 1 of the since i was 6 months old and the other since i was 6 i miss them so much

and who ever gets a flattie i hope treats it as best as possible because they are amazing dogs and deserve the best

rip pepsi and jacob :'( xxx

  • My Flat Coated died too.

I miss him so much :(

  • My Flat Coat just died as well. Fifteen years of total and complete loyalty. This video describes the breed spot on. I am hooked for life on Flatties, well done.

  • 1:00 did this fucking faggot just say "An owner must be poised to take a flatty swimmy!" ???

  • Our Flat Coat just died. He was a loyal loving dog. We miss him. There are a great breed. They like to play outside but inside are very chill and relaxed. They will stick with you through thick and thin.

  • I LOVE my Flat Coated Retriver it has to be one of the best breeds

  • Flaties are the very best. I found my first one at a shelter and hadn't heard of them before that. I have my third one now. I always have a Flattie and a Golden and always get them from rescue groups. I was watching a dog show once when they said Flat-Coats are the best kept secrets in dogdom. I believe it. Their personalities are just amazing! They are considered the 'Peter Pan' of dogs. My dogs both give me more than I could ever give them. I feel lucky to have them.

  • My dad had one for 13 years, most lovable dog ever! God I miss her :(... She never bit a human, only another dog once in self defence (a german shepard tried to fight, she bit a part of the shepard's ear of!). I will certainly get one when I get my own house, this one and the Golden are the best family dogs ever!

  • i absoloutely love flatties. I have one called diezel who is 5. We recently got a border collie puppy and Diezel has been so gentle and good to him!

  • I have a flat coated lab puppy... :)

  • I didt know there health was so bad :( but whatever my flat coated retriever seems healthy :)

  • I love flatties! My flat coat Lily is just like the ones in the videos! She isn't a great guard dog, but she's the friendliest dog you'll ever meet.

  • I love flatties! My flat coat Lily is the best dog I ever could've asked for.

  • God a flat coated retriever, he has severe hip dysplasia but he still runs around like crazy. He's the heart of my family, sooo sweet and caring and funny. He hates it when we leave the house so he figures without our shoes we can't leave... So he steals our shoes all the time.

    What a great breed. =]

  • @xSammySelenophene i agree. they're a great breed. i grew up with one and he loved to smile when you came through the door!

  • Great research.......There are six different types of retrievers.

  • Love this breed. My flattie is the sweetest dog.

  • awww<3<3!

  • Only showed the black version; is the brown variant uncommon in the US? My family was owned by a Flattie for 11 years, still miss Bruno more than 10 years after he died. Brilliant breed, loves everybody.

  • great companion dog very smart too

  • I love my flattie best breed out there!

  • 1 dislike? what the fuck are people's problems.

  • @kolokyal two now :O they must be justin bieber fans ;P haha

  • I have a flat coat retriever, and I taught him to sit and lay down within a day. Intelligence is not a problem, you just have to know the right time to train them. They won't be willing to listen if they haven't been exercised or if they're too excited.

  • i love these dogs! i have one, how can i tell his age?

  • I do not think flat coated is difficult to train. They are a little bit too excitable, but very intelligent and sympathetic. The most lovable creature in the world.

  • hahaha...omg, that police woman and that school are in my town! yay hutch!

i didnt know they had a flat coat there tho...ive never seen it...

  • Is it true? Are there many problems and a bigger risks for sickness for the flatcoated retriever?

  • Grew up with a flattie... best friend you could have, funny and a lot of fun, and very sympathetic if you are feeling sad. Most gentle bite ever if you were rough housing, your arm could be in his mouth and you wouldn't feel it. If you made believe he hurt you, it would break his heart. Friendly to all animals and people introduced to him, but also our Caesar was an excellent watchdog. Did like to run off after the females though, always needed to be leashed. Overall the best companion

  • Im adopting an 11 month old flatcoat from the pound in 2 days time, she's beautiful and im calling her Layla.

  • I lost my best friend my Flatcoat Harry on Sat 2nd oct...he was young ..and so so missed

  • my flat coat is my best friend in the whole world

  • 1:02 looks 100% like my dog

  • I already have flat for 4 years, i remember wehn he came he was huge for a 2 months old puppy. Anyway he was unberable, he used to jump on my sister's hair, he ate butt-ends from the ground, ate all the shues, but he was tne cutest thing iv ever seen. Now he is verry, very big around 45 kg heavy and he is still acting like he's few mounths old. : )

  • @mattx1571995

Please---Put him on a diet ASAP. 45kg will tear up his hips and joints and shorten his life.

  • i am realy thinking to buy flat.c. retriever i am just asking ..do you thing he will get along with a chinchilla?

    please help..=)

  • @Nina22442

my flatcoat would have certainly gotten along with a chinchilla

we introduced him to our lovebird as a puppy, and yes, he did put him in his mouth, but he did it so gently as to onlu see what it tasted like, we pulled the bird out right away

  • @Nina22442

Looks like I'm a year late...did he kill the chinchilla or just "chill".???

  • my dog was a elder flatcoated retriever, I miss him so much after seeing videos like this

  • i have a flatcoated retriver, and last summer someone drove on her :( she saw a cat and ran out in the road, and suddenly a car came. She got hit in in the legs behind and could not walk. we found her crawling up the road, after the nice man (it was not his fault) told us, cause she wanted so badly and was not giving up to get home. She could not walk for week and months, but now she is ok :D 10 year old.

  • and she is acting like she is just like a puppy :P

  • i have a 2 year old flattie, she licks alot ... ALOT, is that normal, or is she speciel? (:

  • @TEAMJARUCA1RUNE flatcoats licks alot - that's normal and I think it's the only retriever that has that "quality" - you have to say no alot while the puppy is small to avoid it.

  • my flatty is a little bit larger then others well by thet i mean 8 inches taller than my grandmas friend well maby because his big heart this may sound weird to people but he IS my best freind

  • I have a Flat Coated Retriever, he is so wonderful, kept me smiling as I went through cancer, had a double mastectomy, reconstruction, and hysterectomy. But Memphis was just a pup then and he always kept me on my toes and a big smile on my face. Love him he is 2 1/2 now and still a puppy.

  • I've have my year old boy for about a month. He looks pure bred, but he's a rescue with no papers. He's such a friendly, playful dog that people at the dog park will play with him more than their own dogs. He's a winner for sure.

  • flats rulez

  • Yay, my dog is a flat-coated retriever/german shepherd mix, so she looks kind of just like these dogs with german shepherd coloring. Lovely.

  • I can't spell I ment companion

  • my mom just gave me a flat coat retriever and she's helping me through a very difficut time for me having lost two dear animal copanions one after the other.

  • Great great dogs!

    I have 2, and two goldens =)

We had a litter 3 weeks ago, 12 little flatcoated puppies!

  • I am getting a flattie puppy in 21 days, She is liver coloured and is called Tilly.

  • @cassiemyclyde omg thats the same name as my flat coat my one is black though not liver.

  • @whywatchthistv It's a very good name ;-) I've had Tilly for a year now and she is the best dog in the world aha. Love her very much! Do you have any videos of yours? She sounds cute.. what with having the greatest name in the world an all :D x

  • i have a super sweet flatcoated retriever i have got him at only 1 year!... he is the sweetest dog in the world

  • I love my flattie best dog ever

  • She saved me from a deer that was gonna sneek-attack-me-from-behind-a-tree, she ran as fast as the could and pinnned the deer to the ground so i would give flatties at least a 3 or something for guarding

  • I love fllatties, mines turrning 6 in september and is still as lively and as fun as ever <3

  • Comment removed

  • @grudainc where do you live? thats sick

  • @hastelevista I live in Weirton WV, Dog dump is on US route 2 between Chester and Newell WV

  • Aren't there 6 retrievers?

    Golden Retriever

    Labrador Retriever

    Flat Coated Retriever

    Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever

    Curly Coated Retriever

    Chesapeake Bay Retriever

  • @nicholask95 this video is full of inaccuracies. you are correct about those retrievers. this video also claims they're a mix of newfies and lab. retrievers. this is incorrect. they were a mix of newfies and Labradors (NOT Labrador retrievers, there IS a difference). also, goldens are not "brothers" to this breed, but are instead the decedents of flatties.

  • @nicholask95 Liver Flat coat too

  • While I'm proud of my flattie and love her in every way, I don't want this breed to get too popular. It seems that disreputable breeders pick up on popular breeds the way they did on the dalmation & weimareiner.

You'll never find a flat-coat in a shelter because most reputable FCR breeders will take your dog back if you can't care for them anymore. If all breeders did this, there'd be a lot less dogs in shelters!

  • @KatseGatcha If the breed does get TOO populour then puppy farmers will start breeding them that is very very bad but however there is nothing wrong with them being populour because if they werent people would stop breeding them and then the breed would eventually die out so your half right and i understand what you mean but thereis some downides of them not being so populour

  • @KatseGatcha

Mine is a shelter dog, as was his sister. He's a year old and training is a bit tougher than starting with a younger pup. GREAT DOG though, and learning at an incredible rate.

  • i got a flattie like a year ago and i payed for her her name is rosie or rosalie

  • I have a flattie-probably a mix, named Augie. We adopted her from a shelter, and has been a great gitl, but boy,can she snore!! anybody elses' do that? She's only 5,but has i limp in her hip when she plays to hard. I don't know if it's an injury, or hereditary. Any info out there?

  • @jacicch i have a flatcoated too, oh yeah, they snore :P

  • im babysitting a yellow flat called pei. she's a real cutie =) soon posting videos of her

  • @BlueLightMidnight there's no such thing as a yellow flattie. they come in black and chocolate. i'm sorry, but it sounds like you have a golden retriever.

  • @MamaStrega take a look at my video of the dog then. this aint a golden retriever

  • i have a flattie and his name is buster

  • i used to have an adorable flattie. she had a cute little ski-jump nose and i loved her. she died of cancer when she was 3

  • I getting a flat coat

  • I have a 11 month old male FRC and he is the most loving dog I have ever known.. All he wants to do is be with us and please. I hope that FRC's don't become popular so I can keep them all to myself!

  • Flat coats were descended from Newfoundlands and Irish setters which were more prominent in the dogs than Labradors and perhaps a collie breed was even added as well. The liver color sometimes seen in flat coats is a product of the Irish setter and, being an owner of a flat coat myself, I wanted to make this fact clear.

  • I had a flat, she died just this last year at 15 and she was the most amazing thing we have ever had. She was very angelic and Extremely smart. She was harder to train as a puppy though, she would bring dead things home and run around the neighborhood loose! but when she got older she was the best thing to ever live. And she still acted like a puppy up until she got sick. This breed is adorable and I plan on having another=]

  • i know the feeling :) used to have one my self! untill she died a few years back from cancer at about 10 years :( miss that dog so much! always made me feel better and was always in a good mood, bit me a few times, but thats part of the deal of having a dog :) i advice al who wants to get a dog to get a flag-coated retriever!! you wont regret it!

  • They are highly intelligent. It's almost creepy.

  • i have aflat coat his name is dozer

  • i love this breed so much!! i have a 2 yr old liver-colored male. he is 25 inches to shoulder and wieghs 85 lbs. his fav thing to do is go and dig up the yard. there are 2-3 big holes in the yard from him!! his name is Chip.

  • LOL I have a 11 years old flatcoated retriver, and I call him Grandpa Shadow

  • my friend has flat-coat retriever. its one crazy dog. very challenging breed. requires alot of exercise

  • I have a Flat Coated Retriever/Golden Retriever mix. She's an AMAZING dog.

  • Beautiful dogs; they look like a slightly smaller and slimmer Labrador Retriever with a long coat. It's odd that they're difficult to train since most retrievers are very intelligent and trainable. They're actually one of the least popular purebreeds and has a very low ranking number with the AKC.

  • This breed is so lovely =) Had a flat coated retriever lady that sadly passed away last year at the grand old age of 12 but she was the best dog we ever had, we miss her a lot! Def recommend this breed to people, it's a great family dog and so adorable to everyone they meet!

  • 1:31 = poor choice of words

  • omg picking up my flat coat tomurrow! I cant wait!

  • Howd is he/she?

  • Comment removed

  • he :) hes just over 15 weeks now :) he loves everyone he meets and is pretty hilarious

  • Great dog and friend. In case you didn't notice in the video these dogs need to swim a lot, prior to get one Falttie make sure you'll be able to provide them with that.

  • does anybody has any good tips for the shedding?

  • Yeah I have own a 18 month old flat and boy is he a fuzzy beast. The best thing I did was fessed up 50 bucks and took him to a profesional groomer for a full groom and de-shedding. No more do I have to vacuum every other day. It's amazing. Take him to a groomer, it's expensive (I got it for cheap because she's a family friend and Grissom is so well trained) but it's worth it.

  • hey i have a bernese, he sheds, what is deshedding???

  • Ok - I'm convinced. Flattie for me!!

  • My dog Shadow is a flat-coat / border collie mix. She looks very much like a flat-coat except for the big white spot on her chest, and she certainly has the silliness and exuberance that is apparently so common in the breed. I got her last year from the Humane Society, and she has been the best dog ever.

  • I had flat coated for 15 years.....WONDERFUL animal ... good dog and very loyal friend...

  • Comment removed

  • I have owned four of these lovely dogs, two currently. Flatties are sweetnatured and good all the way through. Even with the tendancy to be a bit headstrong, I find them eager to please.

I would never call them a guard dog - alert and will bark at someone, yes. But every individual is different.

If they could just find a way to breed the vulnerability to cancer out of them, they would be perfect.

  • Go to school

    get some fish

    get a good job

buy a house with your own yard.

    Get a dog

  • I agree! It wouldn't be good for an active dog like a retriever to be cooped up while you're busy studying.

  • @telemacherT2 gwt some fish?! eh?

  • @baggerz1984

shallow learning curve, low maintenance, very amusing-especially the cichlids!

nice to watch between studies. My fish tank is bigger than my TV.

p.s. I waited 9 years for my next dog after school.

  • @telemacherT2 The rules of life right there ;)

  • @telemacherT2 exactly my life plans.

  • I'm starting a new university in fall, it's a really small city, about 11000 people and the animal city in the country. So I thought I'd get a flatty. But here's the problem; puppy's, all puppy's need a lot of attention and I don't know if I can provide it for it, you know with classes and all. That and the economic situation that all students have. So in short, what do you think I should do about this???

  • I LOVE MY 2 FLAT's :)

    Anyo & Ben

  • i love my flat coat, her name is lillie

  • great video i have a working flatcoat!!

  • Thank you for posting! I had just seen a flat-coat getting groomed. He was so handsome. We made eye contact and I felt an instant connection. Your video was informative!
