@PRHILL9696 WHOA WHOA WHOA!!!!!!!!! H20 and Ressurection id suck but Rob Zombie version were deep psychological and disturbing and ten times better than the original. Ill admit the original is awesome but the new one is darker and there is a creepy story with the Myers family
I watched this for the first time last year, and I think it is a truely scary film. Well done, John Carpender. Rob Zombie can rot in hell.......although, I do like his music......

@emjhubbard LOL Good, because for a minute I thought you were talking about this one. Rob Zombie's version of Halloween was inspired by the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre/Hills Have Eyes" genre that he and Eli Roth seem to worship. Carpenter's version had nothing to dowith any of that stuff. Michael came from a normal suburban famliy and had no psychological problems......other than being possessed by an ancient Celtic spirit of evil and having repressed incestuous feelings for his sister. lol
first off how the heck did they not know this kid was screwed up in the beginning and bully & step dad had it coming not saying they deserved to die but still and the sister didnt seem very mean.....? @Biebersgurl127 Dr. Loomis and one of the nurses go to asylum to relocate Micheal to a new one. While there, they discover that he has some how broken out and let the patients out on accident ,Micheal the breaks out the car window and steals it from the both of them.
@moneymoneymoney41399 Would you believe because Michael was possessed by an ancient Celtic spirit that was cursed to walk the Earth by a Druid priest more than 2000 years earlier for the killing of a Druid princess named Deirdre and her fiancé on their wedding night on the eve of Samhain? That, and Michael's repressed incestuous feelings for his sister, Judith. Check out the 1979 novelization by Curtis Richards.
@44excalibur WOW, thank-you so much for posting this information. The most recent Friday the 13th was so bad but it could have been great if they'd gone with the comic book storyline where an American Indian shaman is murdered by white men and he cursed the lake area.
@Nakedolive You're welcome! I wish the 'Halloween' novelization by Curtis Richards was still in print, because it was actually a very good read. There might be copies floating around on Amazon or Barnes & Noble. I had no idea there was a comic book translation of 'Friday The 13th' which had a Native American shaman curse on Crystal Lake. sounds like a much better idea than the storyline for 'Jason Goes To Hell.'
@44excalibur LOL, anything would be better for the Friday 13th francise then the ones that came after the first 4 movies. The most recent movie was horror for dummies, which hollywood seems to be more than happy to make americans into. Well more than most americans do to themselves already. The second Halloween did show that michael had broken into a school classroom to write a celtic word on the chalkboard, remember? I found the novel online and that sucker is expensive!? But I'll keep looking.
@44excalibur What's a really good horror movie that's been more recent that you've liked? I loved Halloween also because I grew-up in an area that looked just like the neighborhood the movie took place in. The first Jeepers Creepers is a more recent movie I've been happy with. The second movie was just a boring filler while we wait for the third movie and I've read great things about the storyline for the next movie.
@Nakedolive Well, I actually liked Friday The 13th Part 6. I always thought the "Tommy Jarvis Trilogy"(4, 5, and 6) was underrated. And yeah, Carpenter did manage to fit in the word "Samhain" into one scene in Halloween II, but the rest of it was just a standard slasher film, sadly. I haven't liked many recent horror films, but The Ring and REC were pretty good, as well as Dog Soldiers and The Descent. They don't make good horror films anymore in CGI-obsessed Hollywood.
@44excalibur I actually like the 6th movie too and loved the way they revived Jason and how the whole movie played out. I liked the second movie for it's basic simplicity and how they wrapped it up with michael's death. I agree it was a basic slasher movie but I did love the way micheal was determined to get Lorrie, scary! Did the book have micheal die at the end? I also really like the Ring too, but I wish the second Ring movie could have been half as good. It had such potential.
@monkeybutlers1234 I hope people at your school have the least but of common sense not to fuck with her or she WILL kill you with her signature kitchen knife :P
This is the curse that the Druid priest put on Enda for killing the Celtic princess Deirdre on the eve of Samhain, damning his soul to walk the earth for eternity and eventually possessing the body of Michael Myers on Halloween 1963 and becoming "The Shape":
"Thy soul shall roam the earth till the end of time, reliving thy foul deed and thy foul punishment, and may the god Muck Olla visit every affliction upon thy spirit forevermore."
@44excalibur Intriguing, it's also known as the Curse of Thorn that inhabited a being every hundred or so years on the night of Samhain which in definition translates to both the Lord of The Dead and Halloween... go figure, I love mysteries and the knowledge they bring forth.
@TheLordBatman Well, the novelization by Curtis Richards came out in 1979, a year after the movie, so I don't know if it had anything to do with that "Thorn" stuff from Halloween 6. Richards did put a lot of things into the story that Carpenter left ambiguous, like the Celtic myth about Enda, Princess Deirdre, Samhain, and the Boogeyman, as well as the subliminal incestuous impulses that drove Michael to kill his sister. He also expanded on Michael's time at Smith's Grove with Dr. Loomis.
@44excalibur I desire to read it... I was immensely bored for the longest amount of time, thank you for the insinuated recommendation. If you don't mind my asking; Are you a celtic believer in any kind of mannerism or are you simply an open minded philosopher whom enjoys the studies of the mythological and supernatural? Both? Individuals such as you interest me highly... It is often so rare to find such vigor in the people, such sophistication and philosophy. Intelligence be thee!
@TheLordBatman Sorry it took me so long to reply. The holidays are such a busy time. I'm pretty much the second thing you said; an open-minded philosopher who enjoys the mythological and supernatural, yadda, yadda, yadda...Thank you for the compliment! Take care, and have a great 2012! :)
@nopvictor My theory is Michael, like the superheroes Taskmaster and Echo, had an ability called Photographic Reflexes, which would allow him to learn something just by watching someone do it once. If he saw his parents drive as a child before going to Smith's Grove, then he automatically learned to do it by observing.
Watch 'Oliver Twisted' on the OliverTwistedMovie channel, right here on YouTube. See the entire official DVD for FREE, 24/7/365, the movie and three related educational bonus features every no/low budget movie maker should watch.
In John Carpenters version michaels parents seemed completely norman. So my guess they didnt mistreat him. The only explanation we get is from Dr. Loomis who says michael is just pure evil. Dr Loomis -"He has the blackest eyes; the devils eyes". So evil just got into michael, how?I dont know. The film never expalins how he got that way.
@veeseee128 The novelization explained that Michael had been possessed by a force of evil that had been unleashed on the world centuries earlier in Celtic Ireland. A young man had killed a Druid princess named Deirdre and her husband at their wedding, days after she had rejected him and the local men brutally assaulted him in her defense. After killing Deirdre, the young man had been torn apart and burned by the villagers, and a Druid priest put a curse on him to wander the world eternally.
rob zombie should stick to music this version is way better this is the only Halloween hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah ah ah ha god i am out of breath hahahahahahaha cough cough cough clear throte ocka
This is a classic and i think john carpenter is an amazing director. Grant it I was not born in the 70's as I am only 14 but this always gives me the creeps and a good scare. I even sometimes get emotional(not cause im scared) its just an awesome movie and you don't have to watch it pnly on halloween :D
why was he in a daze when his parentys got a hold of him? was he possessed? theis movie doesnt really say what happened to him. But rob zombies version explores the theories of why myers killed.
@veeseee128 yea this version dosent explain why he start killing and stuff but when u watch halloween ressurection and they explored the house do u think when they found the chairs n the house that was what they use to put michael in? if so maybe thats why he did it because his parents were abusive nd mistreated him or something idk what do u think
@veeseee128 remembeer when they searched the myers house and they found the chair with the straps and stuff on it in the closet, and they was like is that what they out him in?
@sableprincess13 You're looking too deep. There doesn't need to be a long convoluted explanation (like Zombie's movie) about why Michael had his motives. The ambiguity of Michael in John Carpenter's original what makes the movie. He's pure evil, the "boogeyman" as referenced at the end. Don't forget this first movie was made on a shoestring budget and putting an extra 30 minutes explaining "why" he had motives was not an option. Carpenter today still says-guy w mask & knife so simple & effective

A young man had killed a Druid princess named Deirdre and her husband at their wedding, days after she had rejected him and the local men brutally assaulted him in her defense. Woo woo they actually show the boobs? Never saw a movie that did that :D (If you think I'm a lez or bi, IM NOT. My sis and I share an account, she got the pick)
@knuxking I ABSOLUTELY AGREE, this really IS the best thriller. I would like to add a distinction, that this is technically a horror film as it is not gory. According to wiki, it achieved its most memorable and frightening seens with the use of light, suspense, and music. This is what separates it from most other scary movies. You hardly see any blood in it. I'll get the blu-ray version. Thank you for uploading. Merry Christmas.
here is how i think the slasher genre came to be. Psycho started the premise of it, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Black Christmas Kick - Started it, Halloween borrowed elements from Black Christmas, Friday the 13th borrowed elements from Halloween, every movie since then ripped off Halloween and Friday the 13th, and the slasher genre was born
I would be nice if the novelization of the movie had been given a limited printing during the anniversary.
The novel based on this movie is not bad and actually provides an explanation for why Michael killed Judith and who made him go insane in the first place.
@Vernedi Yes! I just mentioned that part about the Druid princess Deirdre and the Druid curse on the man who killed her back in Celtic Ireland thousands of years earlier on Samhain(Halloween).
@44excalibur Awesome! Back when I made that comment I wondered if anyone would remember the story of Enda (a.k.a. Michael Myers Alpha), who was cursed for killing Princess Deirdre. If that story were canon everything would make a lot more sense. I guess that is the direction they should have taken the story to begin with. The Curse of Michael Myers could have been the prototype sequel to H2 (wish it had been made by Carpenter) and H20 the climactic finale. An epic 4 movie series.
@Vernedi I read the novelization a while ago. I'm surprised Carpenter never picked up on the novelization's backstory and used it for Halloween II. I totally forgot Enda's name, but he was slightly deformed or crippled or something. But yes, I'm surprised that none of the sequel's filmakers picked up on the Celtic backstory. Instead they went into all that "Thorn" nonsense. And then Rob Zombie came up with his ridiculous "Jeffery Dahmer" backstory for Michael, which totally missed the point.
@44excalibur Enda was deformed. Seems to be happening a lot lately how good stories are underdeveloped or get treatment from lazy storytellers. Too bad they screwed up this franchise so badly, Zombie's origin would have worked for a new character. This film set up a lot of potential and great story lines to explore (like Enda's curse). No wonder it *SPOILER ALERT!!!*
...
...
... ends in a cliffhanger with Michael surviving 6 bullet shots from Dr. Loomis.
@44excalibur Also, Carpenter didn't direct Halloween II, so that could also be why the novelization's backstory was never picked up. Kind of a waste of potential if you ask me.
It would have been best to end Michael's story with Halloween II instead of ruining it with pointless sequels (except H20, that one is a good sequel by my standards).
They should have gone with the original intent and done a new story every year, like what they tried to do with Halloween III (great film).
@Vernedi Carpenter did write Halloween II as well as produce it with Debra Hill. Rick Rosenthal only directed. I don't know why he didn't pick up on the novelization, but Carpenter admitted that he only wrote Halloween II as a gig because he and Debra never got paid what they wanted for the first one. I wish he had read the novelization and tried to work that in instead of doing that "Laurie-is-Michael's-sister" thing.
when i was lil i use to LOVE watching scary movies then one day my aunt was stabed (shs still alive tho) bcause some guy FELT like it and snuck into her house well i was there and i forgot all abt these movies but im gonna watch it so thumbs up if you think i should watch scary movies again
@17sndlilboots Hmm i totally disagree with him. Psycho is like, really boring. The 'scariest scene ever' was the scene in the badtub, but to me that was kinda lame..Maybe because we live in 2011, and we see in almost every horror movie head got shot or something...
Does anyone know what that nurse is of him because she came out on the begining of H20 and it said that she took care of him when he died was she his wife or girlfriend can anybody tell what is she of him.
he scares me

This is the curse that the Druid priest put on Enda for killing the Celtic princess Deirdre on the eve of Samhain, damning his soul to walk the earth for eternity and eventually possessing the body of Michael Myers on Halloween 1963 and becoming "The Shape":
"Thy soul shall roam the earth till the end of time, reliving thy foul deed and thy foul punishment, and may the god Muck Olla visit every affliction upon thy spirit forevermore."
44excalibur 2 months ago
@44excalibur Intriguing, it's also known as the Curse of Thorn that inhabited a being every hundred or so years on the night of Samhain which in definition translates to both the Lord of The Dead and Halloween... go figure, I love mysteries and the knowledge they bring forth.
TheLordBatman 2 months ago

TheLordBatman 2 months ago
@TheLordBatman Sorry it took me so long to reply. The holidays are such a busy time. I'm pretty much the second thing you said; an open-minded philosopher who enjoys the mythological and supernatural, yadda, yadda, yadda...Thank you for the compliment! Take care, and have a great 2012! :)

how did Michael Myers learn to drive if he spent all his life in a prison ? 10:40
nopvictor 3 months ago
@nopvictor My theory is Michael, like the superheroes Taskmaster and Echo, had an ability called Photographic Reflexes, which would allow him to learn something just by watching someone do it once. If he saw his parents drive as a child before going to Smith's Grove, then he automatically learned to do it by observing.

gotta love john carpenter! this and the thing are my fav's =D
jameswanantony 3 months ago

This is a classic and i think john carpenter is an amazing director. Grant it I was not born in the 70's as I am only 14 but this always gives me the creeps and a good scare. I even sometimes get emotional(not cause im scared) its just an awesome movie and you don't have to watch it pnly on halloween :D
throwingthingsatu 3 months ago
why was he in a daze when his parentys got a hold of him? was he possessed? theis movie doesnt really say what happened to him. But rob zombies version explores the theories of why myers killed.
veeseee128 3 months ago
@veeseee128 yea this version dosent explain why he start killing and stuff but when u watch halloween ressurection and they explored the house do u think when they found the chairs n the house that was what they use to put michael in? if so maybe thats why he did it because his parents were abusive nd mistreated him or something idk what do u think
sableprincess13 3 months ago
@sableprincess13 what chairs?
veeseee128 3 months ago
@veeseee128 remembeer when they searched the myers house and they found the chair with the straps and stuff on it in the closet, and they was like is that what they out him in?
sableprincess13 3 months ago
@sableprincess13 nope.
veeseee128 3 months ago
@sableprincess13 You're looking too deep. There doesn't need to be a long convoluted explanation (like Zombie's movie) about why Michael had his motives. The ambiguity of Michael in John Carpenter's original what makes the movie. He's pure evil, the "boogeyman" as referenced at the end. Don't forget this first movie was made on a shoestring budget and putting an extra 30 minutes explaining "why" he had motives was not an option. Carpenter today still says-guy w mask & knife so simple & effective

knuxking 3 months ago 12

Vernedi 3 months ago
@Vernedi Yes! I just mentioned that part about the Druid princess Deirdre and the Druid curse on the man who killed her back in Celtic Ireland thousands of years earlier on Samhain(Halloween).
44excalibur 3 months ago
@44excalibur Awesome! Back when I made that comment I wondered if anyone would remember the story of Enda (a.k.a. Michael Myers Alpha), who was cursed for killing Princess Deirdre. If that story were canon everything would make a lot more sense. I guess that is the direction they should have taken the story to begin with. The Curse of Michael Myers could have been the prototype sequel to H2 (wish it had been made by Carpenter) and H20 the climactic finale. An epic 4 movie series.
Vernedi 3 months ago
@Vernedi I read the novelization a while ago. I'm surprised Carpenter never picked up on the novelization's backstory and used it for Halloween II. I totally forgot Enda's name, but he was slightly deformed or crippled or something. But yes, I'm surprised that none of the sequel's filmakers picked up on the Celtic backstory. Instead they went into all that "Thorn" nonsense. And then Rob Zombie came up with his ridiculous "Jeffery Dahmer" backstory for Michael, which totally missed the point.
44excalibur 3 months ago
@44excalibur Enda was deformed. Seems to be happening a lot lately how good stories are underdeveloped or get treatment from lazy storytellers. Too bad they screwed up this franchise so badly, Zombie's origin would have worked for a new character. This film set up a lot of potential and great story lines to explore (like Enda's curse). No wonder it *SPOILER ALERT!!!*
...
...
... ends in a cliffhanger with Michael surviving 6 bullet shots from Dr. Loomis.
Vernedi 3 months ago
@44excalibur Also, Carpenter didn't direct Halloween II, so that could also be why the novelization's backstory was never picked up. Kind of a waste of potential if you ask me.
It would have been best to end Michael's story with Halloween II instead of ruining it with pointless sequels (except H20, that one is a good sequel by my standards).
They should have gone with the original intent and done a new story every year, like what they tried to do with Halloween III (great film).
Vernedi 3 months ago
@Vernedi Carpenter did write Halloween II as well as produce it with Debra Hill. Rick Rosenthal only directed. I don't know why he didn't pick up on the novelization, but Carpenter admitted that he only wrote Halloween II as a gig because he and Debra never got paid what they wanted for the first one. I wish he had read the novelization and tried to work that in instead of doing that "Laurie-is-Michael's-sister" thing.

@17sndlilboots Hmm i totally disagree with him. Psycho is like, really boring. The 'scariest scene ever' was the scene in the badtub, but to me that was kinda lame..Maybe because we live in 2011, and we see in almost every horror movie head got shot or something...
