Cristofori's "piano e forte" didn't generate enthusiasm in Italy...Scipione Maffei stated that In 1709 Cristofori had built 3 "gravicembalo col piano e forte" .. In 1730's Gottfrled Silberman read Maffei's article & started on a new design. With Bach testing eventually Silberman got there.
Bach was pleased and the piano had an action identical to the 1720's Cristofori pianos that survive to this day.

Edit : Actually it should read, Silberman with Bach's help reproduced Cristofori's original design.
