Totally. It all comes down to how many beats (not subdivisions of beats, but actual "big" beats) are felt between each downbeat. 5/4 has 5 big beats, 10/8 has 10 big beats. Only difference is the beats in 10/8 go by twice as fast...and as that feels different, has different grouping possibilities as django is saying :)
@TheDaveRoss hello I'm a sound engineer your absolutely right sound guy is not very good I can't hear the mandolin hardly it's easy to get a banjo sound and you have to hear the voice wears the rest Chris is only just the other player you hear him towards the end I hear now just without tone and just under volume
Some would argue that 5/4 and 10/8 are inherently the same since both meters contain groupings of 10 eighth notes per measure. Distinguishing between the two in this forum is hardly productive. Them 2 gots good groove though. I like music.
are you saying the they are the same? I'm confused. one could say that 3/4 and 6/8 are the same because they both have 6 8th notes per mearue but they totally different feels. just like 10/8 like this is counted in groups of notes 3 3 2 2. and 5/4 would be counted as one group of 3 followed by a group of 2. the feeling is totally different.
That's not how you read music. 3/4 means 3 beats per measure and a beat is a quarter note. 6/8 means 6 beats per measure and each beat is an eighth note. Fractionally they're the same if you are mathematically solving for lowest common denominator, but we're not solving mathematical equations, we're reading music. 6/8 is also triplet time (123223) whereas 3/4 is simply 123. Notice the difference?
wow these dudes are rocking those instruments. FIrst impression i dont care for his voice. THe playing is leet tho its like the greatful dead on crack.
I love both these guys on this song, but there's something else here that needs to be said: Radiohead has written some incredible songs. The Radiodread album by Easy Star All Stars is a testament, and so is this video. If anyone knows where I can get the recordings of this I would die.
I love those guys. I'm glad I've gotten to see them live. I certainly hope to again. Gotta love the "I ran out of room on my camera" thing at the end. =)
Not really. 5/4 refers to a quarter note rhythm, in which the beats are usually grouped in 2 and 3. 10/8 is when you get things like 2233 3322, etc. It's the same numerically but not FELT the same.
Bela fleck is really an amazing player. The other day I just searched a video from Gerry O Connor and I found an amazing 33 seconds duo with Bela. Yet I search for new versions this outstanding morning bell cover by chris thile and he's here again... (Actually he also played on "not all who wander are lost")
These two are masters... easily crossing from bluegrass to classical, jazz, pop and rock. The Bela and Chick Corea tour should be phenomenal! Thanks Felocin!
THIS IS AMAZING!

@sirlonghair You have to remember this video is posted in 240p and you are losing a lot of fidelity in the compression.

Everything in it's right place is definitely in 10/8, but I'm with threebobs on this song: it's in 5/4. Very hard to keep time to, especially live.
