Mahler's 5th Symphony...reminds me of the Sergei Grinkov tribute. It's the same piece Ekaterina Gordeeva skated to by herself for the 1st time. Very fitting but very sad. Had the biggest crush on Jonathan. He was so much more than a pretty face, & he's missed to this very day.
@angelfish1991 Yes, as it says in the info, originally this had a somewhat more upbeat score, but someone who hasn't released a record in twenty years decided that their 'copyright' was more important than having the song rekindled in peoples' minds by remembering someone who liked it, and I lost the soundtrack (some of which was my original music.)
@osbely Seriously...it was a tiny contributing factor. He'd lost a LOT of parts previously, and had weathered it. You have to remember that they auditioned many actors for the role (who also didn't get the part), and he was just one.
@annamariapiotrowicz2 You're right. He was in a LOT of the courtroom scenes (still is, if you've got sharp eyes.) The short deleted scene you might be talking about with dialogue was called "Coronal Ridge", and is... Well, see it.
Been collecting movies I liked from my childhood and just finished watching "Ladybugs". As a 30 year old cancer patient who has to fight to live it bewilders me to think of a young healthy guy just throwing his life away like he did. He always seemed like a down to earth likeable person in every interview I've seen of his and he was a good actor. Just wish he would have reached out for help. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
I was never a huge Fan. But Still don't mean I want him dead. It a shame. He did not see how many people loved him. I know they would have helped. But it hard to reach out sometimes. Lets say I know it all too well. God Damn he was so young too. Depression any mental disorder is horrible. But hopefully he is Resting In Peace and has no longer his demons to contend with.
it was funny really, cause i was little and we were in new york and i saw him and i said to my mom theres bastian and she diddnt look until he saw me calling him bastian, then we walked up to him and we got pictures with him <3
Johnny acquired a certain handsomeness as he matured, it's really a shame things turned out the way they did, I would have loved to have seem him in other films, may god rest his soul:(
Wow, I am floored by the news of his passing. I was just talking about him and his role in lady bugs as "Martha". I absolutely loved his character and had such a teen crush on him. I remember I had a bunch of pictures of him up on my wall. I too lost my father to suicide and know that depression is a terrible thing to live with and also know how hard it must be for his friends and family having lost him. I will keep you all in my prayers. I hope he is now at peace.
It is so sad to think,Jonathan was suffering and was so unhappy. Strange how nobody noticed it before he took his own life. Unless,Jonathan was good at hiding it so well. RIP,Jonathan
@DARE11953 Though some have said that he was a "mediocre actor", the fact is that he hid his problems SO well practically no one recognized that he was suffering. He sent up signal flares, to be certain, but he was careful to scatter the facts between people who only made the connections after the fact.
I always wondered what happened to him. He was in a bunch of movies when I was growing up then completely disappeared. Just found out what happened....sad....
@ZzzzeroCool It's amazing that almost eight years later there are STILL people just finding out. For each of them, he just died. I remember what that was like, and I sympathize - really. I'm always quoting a Mark Strand poem: "The scar remembers the wound. The wound remembers the pain. Once more you are crying."
my favorite of him was IT probably.. he did such a god job on his role and the studdering etc. but i just found out a few months ago he was gone :( Johnathan just because things dont work out means you should kill yourself. you just sometimes have to be patient and things will work out but it was your choice. you had fans and STILL have fans if only you could of seen that. but hopefully you're in peace and happier. R.I.P.
I found out that he passed away today.. Reading news about "it" I think I wacthed 3 or 4 movies from him.. I don't get it.. If he wanted to direct and write movies... He wanted a lot of things I don't get it..
I shed a tear tonight. Amy dead, another young talent gone. Jonathon born the same year as my daughter. This is sad thankyou to his dear friend for making this tribute.
Jonathan's death is by far the most saddening Hollywood death I can think of. He was such a joy to watch on screen and his joyfulness made him so likable, not only as an actor, but as a person. He was, in some ways, the face of many of our childhoods and to this day his performances still put a smile on my face. We miss ya Jon.
I didn't know until recently about Brandis' passing. I'm very sad to say the least.
Sidekicks was one of my favorite movies when it was released when I was in middle school, and struck a chord with me because I was bullied A LOT and was very scrawny for my age. That film was tremendously encouraging to me. Now that I can still look back and say that movie helped me in life is a testament to Brandis' work. RIP Brandis and thank you.
@atlas3770 I saw Jonathan at a comic book convention (still at the Shrine every month) doing promotion for SeaQuest. There was a kid (only one this time) dressed as Barry. Jonathan didn't know how to react to the hero-worship in the kid's eyes, though he was nice to him and gave him an autograph. The kid recognized what we all know now, that Jonathan was a pretty special guy, and that Barry's story helped a LOT of people through some tough times. Your story is a very familiar one.
Jonathan was such an inspiration to me. My heart is wrenched at the thought of his death. Rest in Peace Jono. You will always be treasured by this heart.
Im watching "IT" the only film i have seen brandis in, and i thought "hey i wonder what these guys are up to now?" as you do, Im so shocked to find out that he has passed away, makes me feel sad cause IT is a film i used to watch as a kid and to know the main actor is no longer with us is definitely sad. R.I.P jonathan, I hope you have found peace where you are..
I'm very sad to say that I had absolutely no idea until just recently that he was gone......and I cant believe it. I watched him in everything he did up to Sea Quest, only because I didnt know that he was still doing work. I've found the names of some of the other projects he did, and I WILL be watching them. R.I.P Jonathan, cant believe you're gone............
Ya know I can safely say I grew up with him in the sense that his movies aged as I aged, from The never Ending Story when I was a tot right up to Seaquest on early Saturday mornings,I cherish those memories and its too sad that another fine person is gone before their time...Thanks for the memories mate and may you Rest in Peace
I loved Jonathan when I was a kid! My favorite thing I own to this day is an autoghraphed picture of him and a letter from his fan club! I even have the envelope they came in all put up in lock box. I miss u Jonathan!!
To be completely honest, The good king Wenceslaus is horrible. The czech Wenceslaus wasnt a king, but he was a prince and there is a lot of historical mistakes, but good atempt to describe czech history :-) RIP Jonathan
I don't think he killed himself becaues of his career alone...there were clearly other issues surrounding his personal life. He had the charisma and acting chops to shoot right back up to the top of hollywood but it was as if he just gave up and started doing whatever they presented him.
Thank you so much for taking the time to put together this wonderful video of Jonathan Gregory Brandis. He melted my heart when I was 13 years old. Ever since then Jonathan has always had a special place in my heart. He was very talented and I had hoped he would of continued on in his acting/writing/directing career. I remember him everyday and think of him especially on his birthday (April 13) and the day he died (Nov 12). Jonathan Brandis is our bright star that will shine on FOREVER.
my heart is crying for him. i remember when i was a kid with my cousin back in the early 90's, we're fighting over him..it is like he is my prince and i'm just waiting for him to come and pick me and take me to fantasia....creepy now to think of that, but really he played a very big part of my earlier years..my heart is really broken.
@timslady217 Interesting - because it's the most impersonal one I've done - just history - even moreso now that YouTube (Warner Music) removed the soundtrack and it was replaced with this Adagio. (Pretty, also, but not the original.)
According to the majority of sources he had been struggling with depression. But the depression always stems from some sources. I guess he found his last roles and projects scaling down and leading him towards cul de sac, especially after have being rejected from "Hart's War" or "Star Wars". I am European and not fully aware of the Hollywood reality but i.e. in the UK the magazines allow themselves to make nasty comments on actors or singers.
@00IRON001 The rejection answers from studios, perhaps some belittling small comments or just shunnig in the media, along with declining money might have been the last straw. I think that career decline and financial problems were the taboo a couple of years ago, especially when the other young actors around gained prestigious roles. Now some famous actors feel free to say publicly about their problems: Craig T. Nelson has been on the dole and food stamps and Stephen Baldwin is a bancrupt.
@Forsinard10 Everything that you suggest is all a part of the whole tapestry that eventually tipped Jonathan's world over, but we'll never really know what was the 'last straw'. He'd weathered all of these things before, seen other actors have plateaus and valleys in their careers, and seemed to understand the nature of the business. His real interest was writing and directing, not necessarily acting, and his opportunities were just starting in that area.
I am not such familiar with his career, might have barely seen 2 or 3 Jonathan's performances. After have seeing "Ride with the Devil" recently I was looking for more information on this movie and spotted the cast members...I went back to my memories from the early 2000's. Instead of have had watching "Gladiator" in 2001 I should have seen "Ride...". I am angry of ignoring the internal voice of watching that movie 10 years ago- I wish I could have turned back the clock and have prayed for him.
Trust me when I say this: JB ISN'T HAUNTING YOU, AND DOESN'T WANT YOU TO "DO THE SAME." He would give anything to clean up the mess he's made of everything. 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK. Call them. They WILL help you through this.
@jonzfriend He died of loneliness, fitzy545. He couldn't get past the feeling that life had passed him by, and he couldn't really find much of a reason to stay here.
@strke69 You HAVE to know that something's not right. It's one thing to have a clear mind and make choices based on that, but you KNOW that something's wrong. Please, listen to Sam and at least find out if there are options before you do something you can't take back.
@jonzfriend Thank you jon it's just that I have no will anymore to live in this life.I haven't for such a long long time now.I'm convinced fully if I go now nothing will ever change anyway so why bother to keep persisting.
@strke69 i couldnt sleep lastnight after reading your post and i hope u are still with us becouse ive lost alot in my life but karma has made things all better, there is help out there u must try a lil harder and be strong, and have faith..do not resent growing old many are denied the privilege...keep the faith
@cindyb552 Thanks for your reply I've been struggling really badly and trying my best to do things about it.I have severe suicidal thoughts and no will to live anymore.I'm constantly depressed, the death of JB continues to haunt me and make me want to do the same.
@strke69 Your words echo (with eerie precision) the words of the person who inspired all of this grief about himself and his place in the scheme of things. We can agree, I think, that his decision was a mistake, and that, in retrospect, his belief in his 'lack of importance' stands in diametric opposition to reality. You ARE important. Get some help to get through this. Live, if you can't live for yourself, for someone else who needs you.
@jonzfriend Thank you jon I've groen tired of life by now I just exist these days it's a chor to live.I've tried for years on end to live but to no avail.I want to end my life so badly I have no energy left anymore.
@SamWheat211 Thanks Sam I've been trying to get help for a long time, seen Dr's,Therapists you name it and I'm still the same.Trust me death is the best thing for me.
Make a list of every good thing that's ever happened to you, strke69. Go all the way back to when you were a little kid if you have to. People WOULD miss you if you weren't on this Earth anymore, and you really can't leave here if it isn't your time to go Home.
@strke69 Trust me (and Sam, who has some...inside information), you don't want to do this to the people you leave behind. They never get over it, they never forgive themselves, and they never really heal.
You would be missed.
The subject of this video was convinced that no one would notice if he left.
Seven years (and thousands of views) later people still come and mourn.
He wouldn't believe it...but those of us who knew him always did. He mattered...and so do you.
@jonzfriend Thank you Jon and Am I've been trying so hard but struggling to be honest my head is killing me badly I don't know what to do.The suicidal thoughts are ever so strong and I just feel low as hell.My life is really gone I'm telling you now I don't know how to keep on persisting anymore.
@strke69 Please get professional help, strk69, or contact someone so they can get it for you. Call 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK. You owe it to a lot of people to make that call, strk69. If you won't do it for them, do it for me.
...there is no absolution with this type of tragedy...the memory is as painful today as the day it happened...a reminder to care - share...and care..................till next year Jon..........see ya man................
...always a sad time a year for us...when we think of what more he could have done...I will always keep the heart...and release the tears.......................................and there's alot of them...wishing...wanting...and longing for the return of a time not far behind...
i am watching ride with the devil and he did such a great job is this movie i wish we would have been able to have seen in more movies now he was a underrated actor and could have went on to make more movies he is missed
@WWETNAfan315 "Remember", an original piece, "Bruce and Linda" from 'Dragon', "There She Goes" by the La's, "Little Wishes" from 'Macross Plus' and "Until", another original. It takes a lot of music to fill all of that space!
this video has been saved in my favorites for awhile now and I just realized it was one you made...very nicely done....what was that even on Sept 12/? seems like many ppl were there?
That was the first night of the "Year That Trembled" release. That was at a now non-existent restaurant called "The Moustache Cafe" on Melrose. They had a DEADLY chocolate souffle with chocolate sauce and whipped cream.
This was a sweet video! I know that he did voice acting too, but it is understandable why you didn't put those characters he played in... Still, very sweet, obviously very heartfelt, and it's easy to see that you meant it to be something that anyone could feel the emotion in every word... And we can! I felt the sorrow in it, but I felt the care from a friend in it as well... Very very thoughtful video...
@jonzfriend Usted no lo perdió. Acaba de encontrar difícil de creer que es todavía aquí en el espíritu. Esto es uno de las razones que él no sale, y uno de las razones él no soltará su propio sufrimiento.
Well done! What bugs me out was the fact that He was a working actor! (According to reports he was depressed about his sagging career) Maybe if he'd seen something like this before he offed himself he might have had a different perspective! Arg! He was so talented! It's too bad.
@PsyAnn EVERYONE auditioned for Anakin, and only one got it (and then had to act opposite JarJar.) That's the nature of being an actor in Hollywood. It does seem like a smoking gun, but it wasn't (just) that.
@jonzfriend When things don't pan out over and over again, it's hard to figure out where you fit in the grand scheme of things. Can't really tell anyone what you're feeling. They can't relate. While friends moved forward, the eponymous felt like he just couldn't catch a break.
didnt this have another song i watched this like 4 years ago when i found out he died and i swear this was a different song is there a way i could watch the original?
@WWETNAfan315: It had three pieces that were...um...'removed' by WB Music Group (including two original pieces that DIDN'T belong to them.
@haters: I'm not one of those who goes into graveyards and spraypaints intolerant graffiti onto the stones, no matter what I think or believe. I'm quite alive and disrespect WILL be dealt with quickly and EVERY time.
wow, I was all teary eyed. XD then i read the info. I had to laugh. You tell them! I think what you have done here is wonderful. He was and still is the best man. I still love him, I will never stop being in love with him. So, Jon, here's to another 22 years of loveing you. :D <3 Please make more! :D
Wow! You tell them. That's ridiculous that they do that. THey are trying to say the song on my one video is copyright infridgement too...whatever. Jonathan would be extremely proud of this video, you did a good job. Sorry the companies had to destroy it.
Who the fuck disliked this video? Asshole. R.I.P. JB.

(Pretty, also, but not the original.)
jonzfriend 1 year ago
why did he hang himself?
00IRON001 1 year ago
@00IRON001
Forsinard10 1 year ago
@00IRON001 The rejection answers from studios, perhaps some belittling small comments or just shunnig in the media, along with declining money might have been the last straw. I think that career decline and financial problems were the taboo a couple of years ago, especially when the other young actors around gained prestigious roles. Now some famous actors feel free to say publicly about their problems: Craig T. Nelson has been on the dole and food stamps and Stephen Baldwin is a bancrupt.
Forsinard10 1 year ago
@Forsinard10 Everything that you suggest is all a part of the whole tapestry that eventually tipped Jonathan's world over, but we'll never really know what was the 'last straw'. He'd weathered all of these things before, seen other actors have plateaus and valleys in their careers, and seemed to understand the nature of the business. His real interest was writing and directing, not necessarily acting, and his opportunities were just starting in that area.
jonzfriend 1 year ago
I am not such familiar with his career, might have barely seen 2 or 3 Jonathan's performances. After have seeing "Ride with the Devil" recently I was looking for more information on this movie and spotted the cast members...I went back to my memories from the early 2000's. Instead of have had watching "Gladiator" in 2001 I should have seen "Ride...". I am angry of ignoring the internal voice of watching that movie 10 years ago- I wish I could have turned back the clock and have prayed for him.

@WWETNAfan315 "Remember", an original piece, "Bruce and Linda" from 'Dragon', "There She Goes" by the La's, "Little Wishes" from 'Macross Plus' and "Until", another original. It takes a lot of music to fill all of that space!

No offense but I still think he might have been a better Anakin Skywalker. And if you look close, he does resemble a bit of Luke...
He was so depressed and not getting that part might have pushed him over the edge.
PsyAnn 1 year ago
@PsyAnn EVERYONE auditioned for Anakin, and only one got it (and then had to act opposite JarJar.) That's the nature of being an actor in Hollywood. It does seem like a smoking gun, but it wasn't (just) that.

@jonzfriend When things don't pan out over and over again, it's hard to figure out where you fit in the grand scheme of things. Can't really tell anyone what you're feeling. They can't relate. While friends moved forward, the eponymous felt like he just couldn't catch a break.
