tyranny shouldn't even be an option to "vote" for. The Bush administration is the one responsible for breaking the rule of law. Congress should be held responsible for following suit, but Barr did fight to give us a chance to debate the issue again because he knows, and Paul knows, that our government is corrupt, and will do anything to get more power and to keep it, and it is near impossible for single individuals to change that. Despite his vote, Paul didn't stop the Patriot Act

Because Barr publicly denounces the patriot act and regrets his own vote for it. Obama doesn't even mention it and voted for it many years after Barr started to fight against it in 2003. Barr fought against the Patriot act even before he voted for it...Obama seems to agree with all of it except the "warrantless wiretapping" but he mentions little else. If Obama really spoke up against the Patriot Act, I would be more inclined to vote for him.

There was very *little* time. Of course with such a controversial bill Ron Paul read the whole damn thing, and I'm sure Bob Barr did too. I remember reading somewhere they had like...3 days or something from the "original" bill...but only less then 24 on the final version. The fact is...most senators and congressman don't even read any bills...just have other people "summarize" it. So of course Barr fought against what he thought was unconstituitional and did what he had to to minimize damage.

A sunset provision would have terminated the patriot act after a certain date. Whether it is permanent or temporary is irrelevant. He still voted for a bill that violates our 4th amendment rights for more than zero seconds.
