Interesting videos, but in this case, I think that with most people you just wouldn't have time to do an irimi to the side, the jab would be retracted much faster than what we see here.
@Igaluit Timing this is difficult, no doubt. One thing that can help is to use "musubi" or a kind of "sticky hands" principle to get contact on his forearm and ride it in as he retracts the punch... It certainly takes practice. Thanks for watching and for a thoughtful comment.
@EnsoAikido First time I learn of "musubi", but I see it now that you mentioned it.. It would be interesting to see one or two other approaches, though, with the jab or dealing with a boxer.
How about you have an AIKIDO VERSUS anything the other feels like throwing? Seems to me some of these drills want you to zig while others want you to zag. Too bad if you zig instead of zagging and walk straight into a roundhouse punch.
@BelloBudo007 Yes, it could happen. No technique or method works 100% of the time. But drilling specific techniques is not a waste. It conditions the neuro-muscular system so that you are able to take advantage of opportunities as they present themselves in the moment. In order to play jazz, you have to master your scales, intervals and other exercises. These are the techniques that become the departure point for effective improvisation. Look for Aikido vs Free Attack in the future...
you can't use aikido against a jab. you can reflexively avoid a jab. but if you wait for him to do a jab and he can choose when then he will hit you as you hesitate. aikido worksagainst large energy attacks. like if someone threw a ball at you, youd have time to see it/feel it and then avoid it. thats when aikdio is used.
I have added you to my favourites links. That's how aikido should be trained. This is exactly the way of aikido which is tought by Steven Seagal shihan. Very practical and effective.
@obentozai Thanks very much. I was hoping someone out there would be able to appreciate what I was trying to do with that encounter. I hope you will consider subscribing. We have lots more AIKIDO VERSUS coming. Peace.
Why don't you use someone who idk KNOWS HOW TO PUNCH!? I have a bunch of other complaints, but just like a coward I know you won't let this comment go if I put them on here.
@JustaEropeanGuy Thanks for the opportunity to practice verbal Aikido. If you don't like our videos, why did you subscribe to our channel? Where can I see your martial arts demonstration videos?
@EnsoAikido Lol verbal ailkido, man you're full of shit. Ok 1 I'm waiting to see those karate videos you said were coming. 2 I don't have martial arts videos because A I quit training years ago B When I was training I wouldnt be dicking around with a camera C I wasn't an instructor at my school to be making demo videos.
@JustaEropeanGuy You cannot provoke me to insult you. Why don't you start training again? Maybe you could give Aikido a try so you can give it a fair evaluation...
@EnsoAikido I'm not trying to provoke shit, asswipe. You must be the biggest... sigh what ever... I have tried aikido and even if I hadn't I have more than enough experience and knowleve above all to spot bullshit and ineffective waste of time techniques.
@JustaEropeanGuy Hey friend, calling someone a coward, full of shit, and an asswipe are obviously meant to provoke him. You have been nothing but rude to me, but I refuse to respond in kind. That is what I believe in. That is why I continue to practice Aikido.
@EnsoAikido Sigh, I ain't trying to provoke shit, I just call 'em as I see 'em! [Comment Pending Approval] means coward. Acting like full of yourself means, you guessed it - ASSWIPE. Sorry if you are one...
@JustaEropeanGuy I have approved all but one of your insulting comments, so what exactly do you think I am afraid of? If speaking up for my beliefs in non-violence and general decency makes me full of myself, then I guess I am an asswipe. Thanks again for watching. Peace.
@EnsoAikido you are afraid of letting people speak freely, instead you filter things that might hurt your feelings or differ from your opinion, kind of like what the religious channels do. You make stupid assumptions and are generally professing all the stereotypes of a bullshido artist. The way you describe MMA gyms and other modern martial arts makes you full of yourself (why do I have to explain this I told you "holier than thou"). Why don't you take your own advice and try MMA before judging
@JustaEropeanGuy I think I have shown that I am open to criticism, but perhaps you are right. Where you look at me and see a typical "bullshido artist," I look at you and see a typical bully. Where you are put off by my views on MMA, I am put off by your views on Aikido. I just think there is enough violence in the world already. If that makes me holier than thou, I guess I'll have to live with that.
@EnsoAikido I think you'll find out that MMA people are some of the most humble and polite people. Barring actually stepping in their shoes and doing a month or 2 of MMA(SAMBO/BJJ/MT/General MMA) there might not be anything else for you to be able to see my point. The fact that MMA has a more direct approach about fighting does not make it more "violent". Violence is not exhibited because it's practised with the mutual understandings and ideals of sportsmanship, meaning it's consensual.
@JustaEropeanGuy I am interested in better understanding the more offensive systems, and have done a fair amount of cross-training in BJJ, wing chun, and karate. MMA may be sporting and consensual, but I don't see how you can say it's not violent. There is extreme aggression and intent to harm. That is the definition of violence. BTW, I am appreciating this respectful dialog. Your perspective is easier to consider without the needless insults.
@EnsoAikido Well I appreciate the removal of comment approval (perhaps calling you out the way I did worked). "There is extreme aggression and intent to harm. " see that's a facetious assumption. Most people used to make that same assumption, based on (visual cues and empathic feelings)
Fact is you can't know what the intent is behind a martial art move, because that's up to the attacker. Intent can't be verified until the result of the martial art move.
@JustaEropeanGuy There are so many pre-fight interviews where fighters openly talk about how much they enjoy hurting people and how they are going to punish and torture their opponent. This is what I find repulsive.
@EnsoAikido That's openly considered part of the show. What person doesn't have a nemesis of some kind. People easily establish a connection when the fighters have character. Them being aggressive is not connected with the art. That's why there's varying degrees of pre fight boasting and stuff. A lot of fighters go with the "it's a great honor to face (name)". If it was to do with the art, it would be universal. The whole personal thing mostly has to do with the organization thats doing the show
@JustaEropeanGuy That is why I respect fighters like Anderson Silva, Machita, and GSP. I consider them true martial artist because they have respect for their fellow human beings. But is seems these guys are the exception to the rule. And that's the other thing: the show. The spectacle of violent competition promotes violence among the fans and wanna-bes. It contributes to the culture of violence we have established, turning the chain into more of a web.
@JustaEropeanGuy Yes, it was there before. It is the reason MMA exists. But, no I don't believe it has to be that way, but we need to work to remove it, not to reinforce it.
@EnsoAikido there's no indication that violent behaviour can or SHOULD be removed from society. Censorship doesn't work and is stupid and fundamentally wrong.
@JustaEropeanGuy I took those last two down because I know you don't mean anti-rape laws are censorship. But I'm not talking about censorship. I'm talking about social norms. I'm not suggesting a ban on MMA. I'm suggesting a boycott.
@EnsoAikido You can boycott what the fuck ever you want, if no one shares the non violent values nothing will happen. Who the fuck brought rape in this? you know what, you can go fuck yourself! This conversation is over!
@EnsoAikido Violence has to do with how much you hurt someone or violate their boundaries as pertaining to physical interaction. Both arts have to do with putting someone in a situation of submission and pain, the means do not make it much more violent if the result is the same.
@JustaEropeanGuy Violence is not just physical. It is also psychological and spiritual. For example, the way you were treating me earlier. Yes, submission and pain exist in both arts, but one seeks it out and promotes it while the other does not.
@EnsoAikido how are you so thick? Or are you just stubborn. Development and use are separate from the actual use. If aikido was developed for peace and someone used it for murder that wouldn't make the style any less or more violent.
@JustaEropeanGuy Again with the insults... you were doing so well! These are complicated issues we are talking about here. If I am stubborn, so are you, no? If it were used for murder, it would not be Aikido. Aikido is not a set of techniques, the techniques as practiced represent a method of (peaceful) conflict resolution.
@MrMynameisigal I think you could benefit from looking at the big picture here. Because you are so focused on your idea of what a jab should be, you miss the point of this technique, which is an important part of the Aikido repertoire. You don't try to grab the fist at the apex of the strike, but you get contact at the elbow, and let the energy of his withdrawal take you into position to throw.
@EnsoAikido I understand what you mean but in my experience it's difficult cause there's always a second shot waiting for you when you step closer . Side movements are difficult (slow) even for a pro fighter against a jab, it's easy to loose balance , and you don't have time to do anything else. It's good to contact the elbow as you say but not against a jab cause it's too quick .
Interesting videos, but in this case, I think that with most people you just wouldn't have time to do an irimi to the side, the jab would be retracted much faster than what we see here.

I've just watched a couple of your videos, and I'd like to say that I'm glad to have seen this.
Martial arts in forms like this are fantastic, and really do make me want to learn more about Aikido.
Also, lol @ this guy in the comments. Your verbal contact match the true form and style of your technique.
