  • Great demo man. I've got all those patches except the Alien Cam one... never heard that one before. I liked your demo, you clearly know your way round the D50!

  • i've got a D-70, much chunkier than the d-50, sweet sounds especially the strings!

  • haarf! que de souvenirs les sons c' est exactement ça ! quand on pense qu' il vient avec pleins de synthés! hi hi ! un bon roland de la serie D et hop!

  • D-50 is a classic, and slings me right back to 1988, Jarre Docklands (I was there) and the meaty, full, noisy sound of the D-50 is hard to beat. It was a good regular synth, the ONLY gripe I had was that it was a bit sluggish MIDI wise, the M-EX board sorted the Multi-timbrality side out. Fantastic vid man:-)

  • Is this a touch sensitive synth?

  • Is it possible to put downloaded midi samples taken from Roland D50 and Yamaha DX7 from synthzone or similar websites into the Juno-D Editor patch program and then play the patches (with the D50 and DX7 samples) on the Juno-D?

  • whats the sick little tune u played at 2:05?

  • @kj4412 Computer Weekend

  • @fischek the module roland cm32l is the same of d50???

  • @LOveERDos

Yes..the MC-32 uses the same sound synthesis technology.

    Look here: vintagesynth com/roland/mt32.php

  • @kj4412 sick???,you are sick???

  • Simply incredible! You are great! Just for info, what have you used to record the pattern? It looks like a Korg Kaoss Pad but I think it's not the Korg...

  • @giostrajo thanks :) yes' it's Korg KP3 (Kaoss Pad)

  • @fischek : thanks a lot, so I recognize musical hardware better than what I though! :)

You look like an keyboards enthusiast, maybe you can help me to solve a doubt I have: what could be nowaday a good synth for dance music? I discovered D-50 in an Ice MC's 1994 video, this keyboard is an emblem of the '80s-'90s, but now I suppose it has some "old" sounds...maybe not, I don't know, for this reason I ask you an help! :)

  • @giostrajo for contemporary dance sounds Access Virus - which one depends on your budget :)

  • @fischek : I took an overlook on Access products, they seems cool. Do you know how are Waldorf products, and also Novation, Kurzweil and Yamaha ones? I also tried to find something on the Roland site, but they have so many products I can't find something's specific for the dance music (such as the old good DJ-70). Now I have a Yamaha DJX, but it sounds "old", I think you understand what I mean. Sorry for all these questions, I hope I don't bore you!

  • @giostrajo nah, that's ok - I already gave you my best answer :)

  • @fischek : LOL, a real-time answer, it's quite like a chat! :))) Well, so you keep your preference for Virus... than I will go for that! Thanks a lot, I appreciate your help!

  • The greatest things that ever took off in the musical industry were the synthesizers and to this very day after thirty years I truly love listening to them. Their tunes always made me smile and always will. Joe

  • Great Job fischek, thanks for posting it, impressive sounds, exact JMJ ones, great playing ! again, THANKS..

  • Awesome Awesome Demo my friend.. Loved it !!!!

  • I have my D-50, this keyboard has something on the keys, the way they were manufactured, an special bounce that makes you punch them and do solos. When ever you get close to a D-50 just playing the keys is fantastic, no other Roland keyboard has that sensitivity.

  • Jarre es grande en la música electrónica pero lo que no puedo perdonarle es su necesidad de preset, preset y más preset .

    salud por Jarre.

  • eres muy bueno!!!

  • a very good performance demostration, your are a great teacher!!!

    I like

  • Just found that video! As a long-time Jarre-fan I am absolutely amazed that JMJ used that fantastic preset sounds of the D-50! Really didn´t know that (because I never had one).

Thank you for this interesting video! Great work and well played, mate!

  • reminds me of myst

  • those JMJ sounds.. are those al standard factory presets in the D-50??

  • @Riezz73 no - as far as I know most of them come from the additional cards

  • Great demo. Thank you!

  • Wow, that synth sounds great! Great playing too. The string patch from 1:18 is epic. Is that joystick on the D-50 for vectoring?

  • Over 37,000 views and only 102 people could be bothered to click the like button. Shame on you. Also there are 2 people who clicked dislike? What for exactly? These are the exact sounds used, and the playing here is impeccable! Great work fischek.

  • @davedagreat69 thanks :)

  • Hi fischek!

I have got an Roland D-50 and the sounds here, too.

The sound at 3.20 I have found as well.

It is called "Nice Synth 2-1", from the Bank D-50 "Synth 4-5"

Have you got all the other Sys-Ex Banks from the same website as well?

  • this sounds are built in on the D50???? if you find them on the internet please tell me the page please.

  • Znači,razbio si ga!:)

Zato on i ne da da mu snimaju ruke kada svira:)

    Savršeno si sve skinuo.Bravo!

  • this is awesome

  • how did you loop what did you use??? , and for the sounds aswell

    thanks!

  • @hayabusafmw I think I used KP3's editor to create the loops - as for the sounds I am not sure I understand what you mean :)

  • Superb. Your videos convinced me to buy a D50 on ebay today (I only wish I could buy your talent so easily). Can you send me the Jarre patches or point me the right direction - a quick search on google didn't prove fruitful. Thanks in advance.

  • Holy crap that sounds awesome, not only Jarre like but FRONT 242 like patch..

  • Interesting demonstration. Are these presets, or did you tweak them yourself?

The Korg T-1 presets, for instance, can be heard everywhere on Vangelis' (if I remember correctly) 'Direct' album; a similar case to this.

A D-50 (or D-550) is still on my 'should get one of those one day' list, although it would be of course interesting to try to recreate the sounds on my EX-5.

  • Fantastic !

Hello from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I loved your Jean Michel Jarre sounds.

    I bought a Roland D-50 and a KP3 after I saw your video!

Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please,

please, please, please could you send this bank and KP3 drum loop ??

  • @OctavioPessoa2009 sure, I can send the patches - I don't know about the drum loop - I just sampled the beginning of the track - I'll let you know

  • Fantastic !

  • I've had this problem with both SysExD50 and MIDI-OX. The only program that seems to work for me is SysExBox, so you might wanna try that.

Are you trying to bulk load a bank or simply send one patch to it?

  • Brilliant!! I am amazed by your accuracy of sounds, and performance.

    Five stars!!!

Are these presets or did you edit the sounds?

  • Thanks. I got them from a friend.

  • Excellent demonstration. Really well played. Five stars!

  • Fantastic Sound! Compliments! 5*

  • Is that the korg kaoss pad?

  • says so in the description

  • Oh right, I didn't notice XD

  • industrial breakdown.....

  • Harold Budd also used this board extensively on 'The White Arcades'.

  • String pad figure from 2.30 sounds like Enya (who used a D-50)

  • Yes it was this patch

  • Hallo Sir, can you please make a video how to create sounds, like lead sounds and how to transfer patches :) becuase got some patches from a freind of mine Thanks alot.

  • Nice sounds. D-50 is my favorite synth of all time. I've owned a D-50 since '88, and recently bought a D-550, however, I just NOW found some of the D-50 sites online. I haven't started working through the sound banks yet, but look forward to it.

A side note- I'm wondering if there are any Vox Humana (polymoog, Gary Numan) patches for the D-50 out there... ever see any?!?!

  • No it is not normal, that means the battery inside your Keyboard is almost dead, or dead. I suggest if you open the unit, and look at the battery it takes a 2014 cell if I recall correctly. When you change the battery make sure the keyboard is on or else you would erase your preset sounds on your machine. If you have the factory card you can power off the unit and carefully remove the battery. Be Very careful not to get electrocuted.

  • You need to change the battery inside the unit. They are a special kind, and VERY hard to find. Try ebay, and good luck.

  • oh, come on, CR2032 a special kind? Have you ever opened a D-50?

  • Great Great!!!:O :D

  • I downloaded some of these sounds from synthzone website. I wonder who created these sounds. Does anyone has any idea who created these? I thinks most of the D-50 internal samples were selected by Eric Persing (who's at Spectrasonics now). He also programmed the factory patches. These Jarre sounds are obviously not factory patches. Also, the bank that I downloaded from synthzone doesn't have all the sounds in this video. I wonder where I could find all the rest of the D-50 Jarre sounds

  • @dvamateur Most of them are pre-programmed sounds found on commercial patch cards for the D50. The patches used in the video are called "Machine Run", "Orchester Philamon", "Kokubostrings", "Ocean Scenario", "Alien Cam". However, I was not able to locate the last patch used (in the tune called "September").

  • @dvamateur:

I have the patch for "September"! It´s called "Nice Synth 1-2" and I have downloaded it at synthzone.

  • Thank you very much!

    D-50 is a great synth!

  • D-50 will never die... legend!

  • Héhé the D50rules!:D

  • Awesome ! ;-)

I miss my D-50 so much now, since I had Jarre's patches too.

I really regret having had to sell it

  • Excellent !

  • What is the patch you use at the begining (the drum of Industrial Revolution)??

And the voice of Comuter Weekend is from D50 or is sample?? I just bought a D50 and I don't find this patch in

  • Machine run. Everything is D50.

  • Jarre sounds fantastic D50 5/5*****

  • Hi what's the name of the piece that starts at 1.16 it's very good.

  • Industrial Revolution

  • sorry man that i have to trouble you again but what is the piece at 2.04 its wonderful. Thanks.

  • It's Computer Weekend also from the Revolution album - look it up on YouTube

  • thanks again man. It's great stuff. you did that stuff very well. Fair play.

  • thanks :)

  • Great programming.

  • thanks but these are either the original patches or programmed by someone else - I found them online

  • Wonderful patches!!

  • Hi Fischek, looking for this sounds in syx for long time, but cannot found them on the web, can you send them to me ?

    thanks

  • ok thanks

  • Thank you for the patches. I love them! I have been downloading patchbanks all night, but I could not import a single sound. Yours really work! What program do you use to import sounds? I tried midiox, but the only that work for me is the D5virtualEditor.

  • Hi, now I have a Roland D550. Can I have your Jarre sounds?

  • Comment removed

  • Very cool! I love to play Jarre stuff. If I had money for a Elka Synthex I would get one. But this convinced me to by a D550 right away. Are the sound you play standard presets or patches you have made or dowloaded from the web?

  • some of those were presets I guess, but I got them from a friend - let me know when you buy the synth and I'll send you the patches

  • Great, I hope I will have the D550 on thursday. Just paid for it.

    Are they sysex-files?

  • yes

  • great d 50

  • Beautiful playing. Nice and smooth.

But Why not show more of yourself, all these great YTvids of just hands playing. A musicians a complete performer.

Nonetheless, these videos are great for watching technique and learning. Thanks for taking the time to share.

  • Great stuff! Whitch D50 PCM's used you in the Overture Strings? It sounds very very good :)

  • thanks - that's a patch called Kokubo Strings

  • Good display of digital but still pales to analog when it comes to programming your own patches. You need a PhD in order to program anything interesting using the diagrams and buttons/lcd. Give me knobs and sliders anyday over the d50. Still, sometimes you need that clean digital sound and these workhorses are all still going strong more than 20 years later.

  • I absolutely adore the Roland D-50 - it's one of the most characteristic sounding digital synths of all time. Yes indeed the bizarre but very brilliant plucked vocal synth sound on Computer Weekend was originally from D-50

  • Is that sample or real sounds from D50 ?

  • everything you hear except for the drum loop at 3:28 is coming from D-50

  • 2:05-3:14 how do you do that? im curious..

  • I've used KP3 to record the strings part so I could play the lead with the strings. That answers your question?

  • God bless you and your beautiful D-50!

  • Cool stuff,long live the D-50:)

  • What is the module on top of the D-50.Thanks.

  • Korg Kaoss Pad KP3

  • Viva *LA* D-50.

  • Viva *Linear Arithmetic* D-50. haha!

  • are the drum sounds arp from the d50?

  • the first sample 0:05 to 0:10 is internal and is called "Machine Run"; the second 3:29 till the end of video is sampled from the original track

  • also, there is no arp in D50 - it has special looping samples

  • Great Work

    Awesome

    Olavier

  • All the album Revolutions in one clip. Really good work, and incredible sound. I love it !

  • Sweet Synth fischek! Jarre obviously loved it too. Great demo, what year did the D50 come out?

  • thanks - 1987 :)

  • hey fischek, what is that device you are using on the top of your D-50?

    Thanks

  • It's Korg Kaoss Pad KP3.

  • es la que esta entre 2.20 y 3.12 por favor

  • computer weekend

  • tadatada tada tada titatada tadadtadaaaa tattuo

I liked this fragment, as this piece is called?

  • what second/minute of the video? :)

  • Very Nice :-D

  • Here's a little YOUTUBE trick:

Add "&fmt=18" (without quotes) at the end of this video url to hear it in STEREO!!!

  • Very good, sounds just like Revolutions.

  • Nice one. Did you programme the patches yourself or is it factory presets?

  • A friend of mine gave me the patches - some of them are factory presets I think (e.g. Kokubo strings - the strings patch)

  • Beautiful, my brother. Now with that equipment you can release your own 'Revolutions' album. Congratulations.

  • The best sounding synths are the old ones!!!

    Great video, as always.

  • Great Work, excellent Jarre demo of the D-50 and very authentic as wel;i hear no differents from original sounds on Jarre's album,Jarre is one of the greatest users of synthesizers of al time,a electronic music legend.

    D-50 is a fantastic synthesizer.

(The previous owner of my D-50 was a keyboardist in a famous Dutch music band named:"De Kast")

    Good Job!

    Greetz:Kobolnova

  • Awesome sounds from a awesome synth!

Great work and thanks for posting.

    5*****

    cheers

    marko

  • Hi that was very nice work:)I have a D50 as well. I notice that there not many D50's videos about. Keep up the good work
