I didn't know she was autistic when I filmed this, I was simply amazed with her building skills! Btw, her reaction to this play therapy was her becoming engaged in our world!!

In olden days people were simply called "queer" or "eccentric" and nothing more was thought of it, they were accepted if they were rich, and didn't survive long if they were poor. @marktsheppard, one can see it in the no eye contact and no acknowledgement of the mother, as well as in the obsessive stacking of blocks. Of course blocks are meant to be stacked, but this kid doesn't know when to quit that the autism showing through. Also the fact that he (or sorry she?) does not acknowledge his mother who has been talking the whole time, nor does he even try to show off the stack to his mother, this points to autism very clearly.

Really good concentration levels and motor skills. She even manages to completely ignore the annoying mother with the video camera. What a legend this little girl is,
she is not autistic...she is just concentrating on putting the block towers on. You can't diagnose autism by a way a person stacks blocks. You have to wait til school. No eye contact. I remember block towers. And lining things up. And building Lego cars with matching colors. And getting upset over changes in routine. And a complete disconnect between consequences and actions. And melt downs (ohh the meltdowns!). You may be in for some challenging years ahead. My second born is now eighteen, and while it is clear that he is different, he is doing very well (is going to college next year).

Children under 2 years old are very sensitive to their mother's subconscious state. They pick up any stress, material desire, pride, fear and etc. from their mom. What are the consequences? Autism, depression, violence..and etc. Change within, your inner impression of the world, accept self forgiveness, love and your children will get better. And stop vaccines before they are 2 years old. If you have to do them, descrease their quantity and do only basic ones after a child is 2..

We vaccinated on a modified schedule--nothing before anyone was one and then only one vaccination per visit and those were spread out over long periods of time. There was ALWAYS something different about me, and it started before my vaccinations. I still get vaccinated as an adult, even boosters for *gasp* MMR!...and my symptoms do not change. I am who I am, this was who I was born to be. My parents did not make me this way, they were very good parents. Autism is no one's fault, it just is what it is.

I have read recently that breast cancer could be caused by having computers and TVs in the bedroom because the metal springs in the mattress receives or intensifies the effect. Something about how people are more likely to have it on the side on which they sleep, too, which I think is left side for most people or at least in that (recent) article.

This reminds me of my son 22 years ago. He stacked cans out of the pantry, boxes, and loved to take year books out of the shelf, and arrange them in the correct order of years, and then jump on them.

The sudden increase in autism diagnoses has nothing to do with vaccinations, and was much more likely a result of the broadened definitions for autism spectrum disorders also put into effect at the time. Dr. Wakefield's study showed nothing more than a correlation between Autism and bowel disorders, and made a baseless assumption about MMR vaccines; his views are widely discredited by the medical community. The last "fact" is meaningless unless you're looking to form conspiracies.
Furthermore, NVIC is a very poor source of information. It's an advocacy group with a very clear, defined bias, and was founded on a pre-existing mistrust of vaccines. Yes, there have been incidents in the past with vaccinations, some of which have cost the lives of those vaccinated, but there is absolutely NO hard evidence linking vaccines with autism. Furthermore, the number of lives lost to vaccine-related accidents is utterly dwarfed by the number of lives saved by vaccines.

You mention "thermosil" when I'm fairly certain you mean thiomersal, which isn't even being used in modern vaccines. Thiomersal quickly metabolizes and passes through the body harmlessly. You're more likely to get mercury poisoning by eating fish than you are from vaccines preserved in thiomersal.

When my son (with ASD) was that age, he could do a 100pc puzzle BUT we couldn't help him or touch the puzzle pieces or else he would throw a 10 minute tantrum! I had been afraid of the vaccinations also, but we held of on the "new" vaccines and my son still ended up with autisum (He's now fully vaccinated)
We do have engineers on both sides of my and my husbands family. There are also physicists in the family.
It's also interesting to note that in 1990 the criteria for autisum changed. Many children that would have recived an inaccurate ADHD diagnosis now place on the PDD or autistic spectrum. Now they have the help they need.

my son, turning 5 in May, has moderate autism. Your daughter reminds me of him, he likes to stack things also in addition to lining them up. As he gets older, his autism symptoms decreases as well. (finger flicking, lining up things, limited eye contact, etc.) He is very verbal, but has very limited vocabulary and has trouble with pronounciation.

@andreaswalle could you cite these studies? Because the studies I have found, implicate that children with autism have genetic immune dysfunction/ deficiency- a contraindicated condition for all live virus vaccines.

I ended up using one that supported mine, but mentioned the other side a bit. Most even said it may be genetic. If you look at the families of the kids, there is sometimes a very obvious parent with it.

@123JUJUBE yes, but only in relation to the severity of Jade's symptoms. Had she not suffered a severe adverse reaction to live virus vaccines, I believe she would only have asperger's. Jade has PID- primary immunodefiency, and should have never received live virus vaccines. It was this reaction that led to her diagnosis of PID. She now receives IVIG to treat her PID and has improved tremendously.
I just don't understand why the medical world will not consider the side effects of vaccs, SO far every video that I have watch I have ask the same qustion, every parent said so far that vacc was the cause or played a huge part. Most states offer religious exemptions, which can be obtained through your county heath department. We aren't "forced" to vaccinate, however, its unlikely that your pediatrician or the school will tell you how to get an exemption...
While our children's cases are frightening, forgoing all vaccinations is too. I am pro-vaccination, just not in favor of the schedule in which they are given, nor the lack of information given to parents.

Jade's mother encourages persistence and teaches persistence to Jade in addition to persistence being apparently a natural quality or aptitude in this child. Grown adults are allowed to collect as many objects as they like and call that a hobby, and do things over and over again to break world records, but when a baby demonstrates persistence engaged in a constructive work/play activity, her rights are less? This child should be able to lead a productive life whether she ever uses language.
Who stated that Jade has any less rights than anyone else? What Jade can do is amazing. Her not being able to communicate her needs, her pains, the bruises she used to come home from school with, to me is equally devastating.- but in no way detracts from her incredible intelligence

The timing and method of mother's intervention are PERFECT and the baby actually does appear to make eye contact with mother around 3:33 in appreciation for the mother's intelligent and kind efforts that really do facilitate the child's own work of building the tower. The mother acts as an assistant without interfering. @LosetheStone16 - While I personally don't believe all kids who are diagnosed with Aspergers have anything wrong with them, just like I don't believe all kids with "ADHD" have anything wrong with them, Jade's behavior is clearly atypical. "Childhood Autism" was introduced in 1943 wheras a diagnosis of Asperger's was not introduced until the 1980's.
Also, AS is usually diagnosed in children 4-11, Jade's a baby.
I suggest you educate yourself on the topic before trying to talk smack about it.
The reward she chooses, to play music, seems as normal as the task of stacking blocks she chooses, also self-sufficient of her that she doesn't need eye contact to derive gratification from either the task or reward. The Asperger's I see in kids seems like above average intelligence with perfectly normal entitlement to introspection. I find it upsetting when clinicians grill Asperger's kids and tease them to be more extroverted when kids are happy with strong independent egos as introverts.
@LosetheStone16 - Obviously you've never had children and have never worked with children or else you would know that most young children, when they start to cry in frustration over something like their tower falling down, will turn to the nearby parent for comfort. Also, most children, after completing such a daunting task, will turn and grin at the parent with a "Look what I did!" face. Jade did neither of those things.
Also her mother said she was diagnosed with Autism, not Asperger's.

My son is 25yrs old now and autism was very difficult to have diagnosed then. It took 2yrs and 2months of daily appointments 6 days per week just for the diagnosis. He is such a blessing, I wouldn't change a thing. Like the time he tried to donate his little brother to the jehovah wittiness's. Or , the time he asked me to return his little brother to K-mart and get a brother that wasn't so noisy.

My dad is a provation officer and my grandpa is a history teacher. So engineering part not necessarily true. I would know for sure because I am autistic as well. Its easy to explain this stuff when you are like it as well. Like the music thing and such. We like to have things the same as much as possible or else we get extremly annoyed. Its good though that you now see this now when shes so little. My parents were in denial for a long time till I was 5. But are you really helping her?
Interesting about the engineering thing. It applies to the people I know with Autism also! I wonder if it's the thinking pattern, or if the fathers are exposed to something in the field of engineering that affects the offspring. It's like she is creating a work of art or a building. That's actually a very brilliant thing to do. She seems so aware of not knocking them and off-setting one slightly off by putting it slightly off in the opposite direction. Awe, she's too short to stack the amount she wants to do.

I'm not autistic... but... when I was little I used to line up my mom's shirt paints in order by color... and I'd do it perfect each time. She said that I would sit and do it for hours, talking it apart, then doing it again over and over and over.

This is a very beautiful and intelligent young lady. jimisru what you dont understand is that it isnt the fact that she wants to stacks blocks, and yes children enjoy this, but what you have to understand is the reaction that she shows when her ROUTINE becomes broken, which in this case when her tower falls, she yells and become angry, very normal for autism. Another thing is that children of this age have such short attention spans that after a few falls she should move on to something else.
Very amazing. Note how she marvels her creation when she is done. She will develop some outstanding creativity. Give her something like Lego blocks and watch her as she builds. She will develop really good creative and artistic skills. She already visualizes what she wants to build without having to draw it out. She can also build along whatever comes to her mind. Her autism is something remarkable. Keep a steady eye on her because she is capable of much more.

My Autie is in love with stacking and lining things up, especially the candy/sweets/gum at the supermarket lol. She didn't like stacking blocks out of order when she was little - it "made her brain feel funny" if they were in the wrong order, ie out of size order.
Just wait till this girl learns to go get a stool for a higher height in her reach.

The conditioning of correct useful behavior for higher reinforcement is likely to get a child who focuses on smart adults who teach what she wants to learn.
The holding of a tower takes away the "magic" any magician or watching audience member knows that.

-I'd get just as into building the tower as the kid is. What if you lifted her up to make stacking easier? Built your own tower next to hers?

@BiancaDarling & aware4autism, it's not the vaccines or cell phones, it's that they are diagnosing it more often and earlier. In olden days people were simply called "queer" or "eccentric" and nothing more was thought of it, they were accepted if they were rich, and didn't survive long if they were poor. The "increase" is a trick of the stats, nothing more. I fully support any outreach to those with autism, since I myself have it, but please leave technology and medicine out of it.

@marktsheppard, one can see it in the no eye contact and no acknowledgement of the mother, as well as in the obsessive stacking of blocks. Of course blocks are meant to be stacked, but this kid doesn't know when to quit that the autism showing through. Also the fact that he (or sorry she?) does not acknowledge his mother who has been talking the whole time, nor does he even try to show off the stack to his mother, this points to autism very clearly.

she is not autistic...she is just concentrating on putting the block towers on. You can't diagnose autism by a way a person stacks blocks. You have to wait til school. No eye contact. She might be afraid of the camera. These autistic diagnoses are just ways to make money and to get government funding for schools.

The very mild cases of autism don't receive money, at least not in this country, and those who are more severe are not faking--it is much easier to go out and get a job, then pretend to have autism for money. I remember block towers. And lining things up. And building Lego cars with matching colors. And getting upset over changes in routine. And a complete disconnect between consequences and actions. And melt downs (ohh the meltdowns!). You may be in for some challenging years ahead. My second born is now eighteen, and while it is clear that he is different, he is doing very well (is going to college next year).
You are on the scene, loving, and involved. That is huge. Best of luck.

Children under 2 years old are very sensitive to their mother's subconscious state. They pick up any stress, material desire, pride, fear and etc. from their mom. What are the consequences? Autism, depression, violence..and etc. Change within, your inner impression of the world, accept self forgiveness, love and your children will get better. And stop vaccines before they are 2 years old. If you have to do them, descrease their quantity and do only basic ones after a child is 2..

@RUSSKAYAG You obviously know nothing about autism. I have four children (all teenagers and young adults). One of them has Asperger's (high functioning autism). We vaccinated on a modified schedule--nothing before anyone was one and then only one vaccination per visit and those were spread out over long periods of time. I was a full-time homeschooling mother, and anything but depressed. Please educate yourself before making any more comments on this topic.

There was ALWAYS something different about me, and it started before my vaccinations. I still get vaccinated as an adult, even boosters for *gasp* MMR!...and my symptoms do not change. I am who I am, this was who I was born to be. My parents did not make me this way, they were very good parents. Autism is no one's fault, it just is what it is.

I have read recently that breast cancer could be caused by having computers and TVs in the bedroom because the metal springs in the mattress receives or intensifies the effect. Something about how people are more likely to have it on the side on which they sleep, too, which I think is left side for most people or at least in that (recent) article.

I saw some later videos and it seems she's done amazing progress. Good job Mom, it's not an easy task! She's an adorable tiny little genius . xD I don't have autistic children but i'm high functioning autistic myself and I have to say that you're daughter is lucky to have a dedicated momma such as you. This reminds me of my son 22 years ago. He stacked cans out of the pantry, boxes, and loved to take year books out of the shelf, and arrange them in the correct order of years, and then jump on them.

The sudden increase in autism diagnoses has nothing to do with vaccinations, and was much more likely a result of the broadened definitions for autism spectrum disorders also put into effect at the time. Dr. Wakefield's study showed nothing more than a correlation between Autism and bowel disorders, and made a baseless assumption about MMR vaccines; his views are widely discredited by the medical community. The last "fact" is meaningless unless you're looking to form conspiracies.

Furthermore, NVIC is a very poor source of information. It's an advocacy group with a very clear, defined bias, and was founded on a pre-existing mistrust of vaccines. Yes, there have been incidents in the past with vaccinations, some of which have cost the lives of those vaccinated, but there is absolutely NO hard evidence linking vaccines with autism. Furthermore, the number of lives lost to vaccine-related accidents is utterly dwarfed by the number of lives saved by vaccines.

You mention "thermosil" when I'm fairly certain you mean thiomersal, which isn't even being used in modern vaccines. Thiomersal quickly metabolizes and passes through the body harmlessly. You're more likely to get mercury poisoning by eating fish than you are from vaccines preserved in thiomersal.

I'm surprised she let you help her rebuild! When my son (with ASD) was that age, he could do a 100pc puzzle BUT we couldn't help him or touch the puzzle pieces or else he would throw a 10 minute tantrum! He also loved to line up bottles by color in straight lines! Autism is more than just "quirky" behaviors, these kids are so bright, we have to cherish their strengths!

I had been afraid of the vaccinations also, but we held of on the "new" vaccines and my son still ended up with autisum (He's now fully vaccinated)
We do have engineers on both sides of my and my husbands family. There are also physicists in the family.
It's also interesting to note that in 1990 the criteria for autisum changed. Many children that would have recived an inaccurate ADHD diagnosis now place on the PDD or autistic spectrum. Now they have the help they need.

My daughter stacked blocks so high at about 18-24 months during our evaluation time...I was sure she was Autistic at about 14-15 months...Ella lost all her words, eye contact and social play after MMR...for some kiddos Vaccines are dangerous!

my son, turning 5 in May, has moderate autism. Your daughter reminds me of him, he likes to stack things also in addition to lining them up. As he gets older, his autism symptoms decreases as well. (finger flicking, lining up things, limited eye contact, etc.) He is very verbal, but has very limited vocabulary and has trouble with pronounciation.

@aware4autism Google it, all studies say so now. I did a paper, and it was near impossible to find a source saying it was vaccinations. I ended up using one that supported mine, but mentioned the other side a bit. Most even said it may be genetic. If you look at the families of the kids, there is sometimes a very obvious parent with it.

I will send you an email with links to various studies showing that children with autism have genetic immunodeficiencies. I will also include links to the package inserts to the MMR and Varicella vax- where you can read under contraindications that those with immunodeficiencies should not receive these vax.
Jade had a high fever, rash and seizures after live virus vax, and has immunodeficiency.

@123JUJUBE yes, but only in relation to the severity of Jade's symptoms. Had she not suffered a severe adverse reaction to live virus vaccines, I believe she would only have asperger's. Jade has PID- primary immunodefiency, and should have never received live virus vaccines. It was this reaction that led to her diagnosis of PID. She now receives IVIG to treat her PID and has improved tremendously.

Most states offer religious exemptions, which can be obtained through your county heath department. We aren't "forced" to vaccinate, however, its unlikely that your pediatrician or the school will tell you how to get an exemption...

While our children's cases are frightening, forgoing all vaccinations is too. I am pro-vaccination, just not in favor of the schedule in which they are given, nor the lack of information given to parents.
Most importantly, I am pro-research. I failed Jade. Had I read the package inserts to certain vaccines, I would have known that she had a contraindicated condition.
Jade now has a permanent medical exemption to vaccines.
A religious exemption can be obtained at your county health department.

@HaloofCurls thank you. Sometimes, I am so very tempted to remove the videos, tiring of negative comments. Its only because of the many emails I have received from parents, telling me that Jade's videos have helped them not seem so alone, and have helped their children get diagnosed early and receive critical early intervention.
Jade has so many gifts, musically, artistically, etc. She is an extremely gifted child, and I am lucky to be her mom :o)

Jade's mother encourages persistence and teaches persistence to Jade in addition to persistence being apparently a natural quality or aptitude in this child. Grown adults are allowed to collect as many objects as they like and call that a hobby, and do things over and over again to break world records, but when a baby demonstrates persistence engaged in a constructive work/play activity, her rights are less? This child should be able to lead a productive life whether she ever uses language.

The timing and method of mother's intervention are PERFECT and the baby actually does appear to make eye contact with mother around 3:33 in appreciation for the mother's intelligent and kind efforts that really do facilitate the child's own work of building the tower. The mother acts as an assistant without interfering. It was fun to notice eye contact after being told to "note the absence of eye contact" and even in the end I wasn't devastated child looked to call the accomplishment her own.

@LosetheStone16 - While I personally don't believe all kids who are diagnosed with Aspergers have anything wrong with them, just like I don't believe all kids with "ADHD" have anything wrong with them, Jade's behavior is clearly atypical. "Childhood Autism" was introduced in 1943 wheras a diagnosis of Asperger's was not introduced until the 1980's.
Also, AS is usually diagnosed in children 4-11, Jade's a baby.
I suggest you educate yourself on the topic before trying to talk smack about it.

The reward she chooses, to play music, seems as normal as the task of stacking blocks she chooses, also self-sufficient of her that she doesn't need eye contact to derive gratification from either the task or reward. The Asperger's I see in kids seems like above average intelligence with perfectly normal entitlement to introspection. I find it upsetting when clinicians grill Asperger's kids and tease them to be more extroverted when kids are happy with strong independent egos as introverts.

@LosetheStone16 - Obviously you've never had children and have never worked with children or else you would know that most young children, when they start to cry in frustration over something like their tower falling down, will turn to the nearby parent for comfort. Also, most children, after completing such a daunting task, will turn and grin at the parent with a "Look what I did!" face. Jade did neither of those things.
Also her mother said she was diagnosed with Autism, not Asperger's.

My son is 25yrs old now and autism was very difficult to have diagnosed then. It took 2yrs and 2months of daily appointments 6 days per week just for the diagnosis. He is such a blessing, I wouldn't change a thing. Like the time he tried to donate his little brother to the jehovah wittiness's. Or , the time he asked me to return his little brother to K-mart and get a brother that wasn't so noisy.

My dad is a provation officer and my grandpa is a history teacher. So engineering part not necessarily true. I would know for sure because I am autistic as well. Its easy to explain this stuff when you are like it as well. Like the music thing and such. We like to have things the same as much as possible or else we get extremly annoyed. Its good though that you now see this now when shes so little. My parents were in denial for a long time till I was 5. But are you really helping her?

Interesting about the engineering thing. It applies to the people I know with Autism also! I wonder if it's the thinking pattern, or if the fathers are exposed to something in the field of engineering that affects the offspring. It's like she is creating a work of art or a building. Then the music is turned on like she's presenting it and stands back to critique.

I'm not autistic... but... when I was little I used to line up my mom's shirt paints in order by color... and I'd do it perfect each time. She said that I would sit and do it for hours, talking it apart, then doing it again over and over and over.
Though I'm not autistic, I DO have other psychological problems that I've been working with

This is a very beautiful and intelligent young lady. jimisru what you dont understand is that it isnt the fact that she wants to stacks blocks, and yes children enjoy this, but what you have to understand is the reaction that she shows when her ROUTINE becomes broken, which in this case when her tower falls, she yells and become angry, very normal for autism. Another thing is that children of this age have such short attention spans that after a few falls she should move on to something else.

Very amazing. Note how she marvels her creation when she is done. She will develop some outstanding creativity. Give her something like Lego blocks and watch her as she builds. She will develop really good creative and artistic skills. She already visualizes what she wants to build without having to draw it out. She can also build along whatever comes to her mind. Her autism is something remarkable. Keep a steady eye on her because she is capable of much more.

I think that Jade and Jade's Mommy are both super stars! Jade is such a precious little person and obviously so dextrous and so smart. Based on all the comments, her Mommy is equally smart and also extremely kind and patient. I don't know if I'd be brave enough to take on the whole world's comments like you have. You are awesome! My Autie is in love with stacking and lining things up, especially the candy/sweets/gum at the supermarket lol. She didn't like stacking blocks out of order when she was little - it "made her brain feel funny" if they were in the wrong order, ie out of size order.

The conditioning of correct useful behavior for higher reinforcement is likely to get a child who focuses on smart adults who teach what she wants to learn.
The holding of a tower takes away the "magic" any magician or watching audience member knows that.
