Jeff Hardy asked for his release because of his long-term injuries which he wanted time to recover from but because of the raid he was not allowed to return to the WWE when he wanted to. HBK chose to retire and chose the match he wanted to do it in. The WWE did not want to lose either wrestler, but had to respect their wishes. HBK has been wrestling for 25 years and felt it was time to hang up his boots :)
