Have these idiots ever considered that if you are trying to kill an animal with a sharp harpoon, it is actually going to fight back or run away? MonsterQuest is nothing but hype as usual.
Soooo, Moby Dick wasn't really bad. He was just embarassed because the other animals teased him for being too pale and it made him grumpy. Got it, mystery solved, MonsterQuest! So silly.. and yet, I keep watching.
Interesting fact: not only is Moby-Dick my prefered book, I was born on october 18th 1991, a century after the author's death & 140 yrs after the book was published and yes, Moby Dick was based on the real-life whale Mocha Dick.
I'm pretty sure if someone was trying to harpoon me i'd be violent towards them!! stupid fishermen! what, they think the animals should just roll over and die quietly?! their own personal hell awaits them in the form of paper cuts and stuck white shark infested waters! morons!
So you have reports of the largest toothed predator on the planet acting particularly aggressive... and you're going to go diving into the water with zero protection and daring it to eat you? No wonder these guys are incompetent. If they were any better at finding these things, they'd be dead. Natural Selection in reverse. Darwin would be fascinated by how natural selection actually promotes inability over ability.
Well thats what you get for whaling, dirty whaler son of a bitch.
Well, they might actually find what they're looking for this time. Wait - nevermind. They are not going to find an unusually agressive white sperm whale like the one in Herman Melvilles book because that book is a fucking fiction novel. This show is so god damned stupid.
@Snipe4261 If you actually did research on subjects before sounding like an idiot you'd know that whaling was not yet banned by the commercial whaling commission when this man was a whaler. Also, why be a dick about it anyway? It's not like whaling was banned because it was "wrong" or anything. They were being overhunted, and they planned on unbanning it once the natural stock of whales increased again. You should be pissed at illegal whalers.derpyderp.
@DJkokroach I have no problems with responsible whaling but commercial fishermen of any variety that are allowed to fish without regulation will, and have, fished species to extinction. I'm not suggesting that what that guy was doing was illegal or even wrong in and of itself but considering the timing he would have been whaling at a point when it was know that whale species were in decline. Besides, I'm not actually pissed off at the whalers, I'm pissed at this lousy show. Also, fuck off.
Aren’t they leaping to conclusions? I’ve never heard that the whale that attacked the Essex (the ship that inspired Moby-Dick) was white. It was just a big bull that decided to ram the ship a couple times.
Why would people blame the whale for attacking the whalers? They attacked it, all the whale was doing was defending itself, that's not monstrous or crazy. That stupid whaler just got beat by the what HE attacked. The whale if anything was more human by showing mercy and letting them all live, it could have dragged him down under and came back to kill the rest, but it didn't.
Sarmiento seems to have interest in wildlife outside his field. They say he is a primatologist. Yet he appears on this whale episode and i saw him on the Tigers in the suburbs also
Well I'll defend any creature who can't speak for itself =/ I'm a huge animal lover. And to be fair we go through war, murder, rape and so on it happens daily.. A whale has a tantrum the world goes spare.. Meh. Silly I say and Moby Dick was a shit film for portraying whales to be apparently very vicious when they're actually very shy.
There would be a reason for why it attacked. And if there WAS a Megalodon, you'd bet your sweet ass I wouldn't even go in the Sea. I love creatures all shapes and sizes.. but fuck that :|
Actually, I find it to be one of the neat things about this show that they do known animals as well as unknown ones. It shows how similar the legends can be to real creatures, and only slightly more difficult to find.
@itputsthelotion1 they ran out of ideas a long time ago which is rather a pity there are a few invetagations that i think warent a follow up such as the Chupacabra and the flying humonoids

Gah, he is such a bitch is this episode. What a douche. The entire time I'm just like "this guy is a douche, i can tell."
"it feels, like, seriously, I'm getting stabbed in the face."
If only, Dale.
And the part at the begining where he throws the book down, "that's why we're" here. What an idiot.
And i love his shark necklace. Really.
