  • great song!

  • This is what you call music not like the CRAP they are shoving out now this is when you had to have a voice to sing!!!!! still great music 20yrs on and still brill......

  • Are Paradise Point the new Duran Duran?

  • i remember this song..her name is "rio" and she dances on the sand..just like that river twisting hrough the dusty land..and when she shines she really show you all she can..oh rio rio dances across the rio grande..ahh good song

  • @rainpoetry...that's what brought me to this video, cause it sure ain't those clothes

  • The music reflects the mood of the nation. late 60s early 70s was alot of social consciousness songs, and questioning status quo - heavy philosophical songs. Late 70s brought disco - which was a kind of escapism from economic struggles. Most 80s music is fun, upbeat, fantastical. The country was doing well economically - middle class was thriving through much of the decade, USA was on top of the pile. 90s music got darker, corporatism took hold and music became lowest-common-denominator.

  • @boggywoman And todays music is dumbed down to fit the dumb ass politicians that rule the world and the dumbing down of society as a whole.

  • @boggywoman I respect but disagree with your view of the 80s as neon paradise...certainly mega wealth was being created by stock market, privatisation etc but there was also still industrial unrest (miners strike), race riots (brixton), terrorist bombings (IRA) and mass unemployment. Joyful escapist music like this is like a shop window for 90% of the population to press their nose against and ogle an unattainable lifestyle. Music is the national barometer - but what does it say???? ;-)

  • great tune, and thanks to EMI for leaving it on here, not like some of those labels that scream bloody murder.

  • Back when women need not have breast implants to make it on a video. They are naturally beautiful.

  • @RoseBing Too right, as a man I love my women natural! Mind you, I am 46, so I am no spring chicken. Young men today are extremely superficial.

  • @bigdsears I am in total agreement with you !

  • This is awesome. The ORIGNIAL "On a boat".

  • i can remeber back in the '80's when i bought this cassette and just wore this song and that whole tape out completely. there was some of duran's best work on that one casette. it was good then and now it sound even better. this rap crap and all of this canned music today has really ruined music of today. i'm so glad that i was growing up in the '70's and '80's. and john's bass playing is legendary.

  • I first heard this song on August 17, 1988. I was just 5 weeks old at the time :)

  • Joder Duran Duran ,...Pisco is Peruvian..!!!!

  • The think is, the pop singers back then in the 80s and such actually had good voices! Today's groups are :hit or miss"!

  • Those of us who 'LIVED' (and do I mean LIVED!) in the 70's & 80's remember just what good music was! Talk about an MTV 'blast from the past'! Of coarse back when MTV actually WAS 'music television':) These really were the days. What's funny though is that actually back in the 80's, people sat around griping about how all the 'really good music' came BEFORE the 80's & that "The music these days just sucks". Must be a sign of 'getting old', huh? lol

  • @jlalewicz I dont think it's a case of getting or feeling old, it's just that the music these days really does suck. Most of it's all teenie bopper stuff or has something to do with vampires or emo shit. The worst is, I dont see any rock on the horizon. This generation has put the rock world on justin b and lady popo

  • @bigdsears british rock in this generation is good, as it always has been :) i could explain why music these days appears worse but it would require more space than a youtube comment allows..

basically shut up whining and just find and listen to music you like.

  • @jlalewicz This comment is the absolute truth. People seem to always long for about 2 decades back in pop culture. In the 80's the 60's were *cool* in the 90's people wanted the 70's etc. Ten years ago people crapped all over 80's pop music, and yet suddenly in this decade it is "real" music that people are pining for. It will never end. Their kids will one day be crying for the good old days of Lil Wayne and autotuned everything. ;-)

  • @jlalewicz exactly, when this generation gets older they will tell the kids how music of the 90's and 'teens was real music etc etc... basically there is great music from all generations but you're always going to feel nostalgia from the generation you grew up in.

  • Ahahaha! Remember phones WITH CORDS???

  • @jlalewicz and what about cassette tapes? recording one tape from several l.p records took me forever.

  • The 80s' all i had to do was go to school and throw out the trash!!! best time ever

  • Nice song :D

  • When she yanks on the cord, he has flippers when he falls in. Very tricky work going on here people.

  • I wish i was a child of the 80's, i would ahve loved to be brought up on this. This doesn't mean that my parents didn't [play it to me every day =]

  • @ashytunes you were conceived to this song.

  • growing up in the eighties was the best.but you can still enjoy all the great music and movies.oh where did the time go ?

  • I was a child of the 80's , I remember a stretch of time when this group could do no wrong. Another example of when music was music and not just rhymes said over a mic because the modern day artists have no talent other than the ability to make poetic little rhymes. Todays artists seem to think that since they have no real talent adding in cussing or vulgar lyrics will make up for not being able to actually sing. I dont even listen to the radio anymore , exept for the local oldies channel.

  • @littlejoetay Cause the 80's were not known for being vulgar at all...... and in terms of talent, what were Bananarama?

  • i glad to say i'm on a boat

    with t-pain

  • I want a boat.

  • @ChickieMcPhee yacht rock rules :)

  • This and Hungry Like the Wolf have the most amazing bass lines.

  • @mrsleep0000 i think that john taylors bass palying got overlooked in the annals of history because duran duran were considered just a half decnt band with some pretty boys out front. but they were great pure /new romantic pop, and probably the best of that era

  • To be 15 again when this first came out, we were so unaware of the real world awaiting us....

  • @VGGOD Too true..........

  • FILMED IN ANTIGUA THE HILL WHERE THE SAX IS GETTING PLAYED IS ABOVE ST JOHNS AND MY CLAIM TO FAME IS THAT I STOOD VIRTUALLY ON THAT SPOT ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO SAD BUT TRUE .......LOVE THIS

  • And my day just turned around!!

  • missing the 80's!!

  • ss80s rule im glad i was bourne in this era its awesome .......ps i love to rock out to this shit all day every day ..... xxxxx ps 2rtr 2nd tanks pissed up

  • I'm still waiting for Jay Z to come out with his version of "Rionisha"....

  • They cut a part of the song out at the end. So annoying, this isn't the radio!

  • They need to release an England song for this world cup...

  • i loveed being kid of the 80s some say it was crap,i say was amazing time to live, look at all happend in the 80s! makes me feel old mind lol

  • Kids, the 80's were not like a music video. The 80's were the age of ghettos.

  • @clarkbell How true you are none the less a good time to live in hope the current economy is not heading to the ghettos again:(

  • i wish i lived in the 80s

  • I moved back to Southern England in late '82 from PNG and this was number 1, wow so cool, so glad to be home, especially when the music was this good

  • She looks a bit like Maribel Verdu.

  • my name is faith nice to meet you how you going ?.

  • Enquiry

  • Test

  • I am only near 40.

  • Pretty models featured in this video are now in their 50s....

  • @ucruci and still very fuckable

  • This brilliant song exposes modern music for what it truly is, talentless, soulless, manufactured, tripe :) RIP music, at least we have these kind of songs to remind us...

  • I remember being hammerd at partys listen to this.

  • This rythm has always been blazin' to my ears.

    - The mix between several musical influences

    - The POSITIVE VIBES

    - The celebration of women ...

I play this song to give myself good vibes!!

    Duran Duran for ever !

  • Can Obama somehow pass legislature to get us to go back to the 80's.?. These '10's suck.

  • Aye, I second the motion!!!

  • Man, you just made my day with this comment. Honestly.

    9th person to 'thumbs up'

  • @bigdsears I saw him talkin to Doc Brown about it... he said these times were kinda HEAVY

  • @bigdsears Life was indeed better in the 80's.

  • @LaserDarkDX We've got to put our heads together man, and figure out how to go back to 1984. What if you had to have a mullet hair do when you traveled back in time, would you be open to that? And if so, what if you time traveled back to present day and you had to keep that hair do... it's mighty tempting. I think I might can dig up an old Delorean car and if we get it up to around 78 MPH we can do it, but I think then we'd need a nuclear reaction to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity.

  • @bigdsears ...WORD UP ....IM WITH YOU....LETS TAKE IT BACK TO THE REAL SHIT WHEN EVERYBODY WAS COMING WITH THEIR OWN STYLES,STUPID FUNKY BASS LINES,EVERYTHING IS PERFECT,ITS,THE FUNKY TIMES OF LIFE...DAMN THE DAYS OF ILL,KILLN ME ...THIS SHIT HURTS...GOTTA BRING THE REAL SHIT BACK TO THE FRONT

  • @thePhunktOGraphist First thing I'm gonna do, if I can get the money together, is buy myself a bag of weed big enough to last me at least a month. Then I'm gonna get all my friends together at my place to smoke up and eat pizza. Then, when we're full, we'll smoke up again and play video games. I'm gonna win every game, because I'll have the thing that no one else has: a new lease on life. After everyone leaves, I'm gonna go to bed and sleep as late as I want. Then I'll do it all over again...

  • Save a prayer by duran duran is pretty good and hungry like the wolf but I think this one is my favorite...oh yeah girls on film is really good too. -Dadio G

  • Such an unrated band in the long term

  • First true video ever done on MTV

  • the Bass line is KICK ASS!

  • yup -- reminds me of the Chic's bassline in "I Want Your Love." Different sounding song, but very fluid, driving bassline

  • The bass line is CLASSIC in Rio. John Taylor rules.

  • That bit where Simon falls off the jetty you'll see he actually falls on his back which injured him pretty badly but he kept filming the video anyway

  • i love the sax solo that is because i play the alto saxphone i love it go duran duran and my LJHS middle school JAZZ BAND

  • I love Duran Duran the 80's was the best era with great bands like Duran Duran and spandau Ballet. Rio is a timeless classic and the video is fantastic.

  • Amazing! If you love Rio, check out the best remake on YouTube! Search for Rio by Stinky Chat!

  • Ouch...that hurt my life.

  • it just made right...... I'm an unbeliever aswell..... but it does make sense

  • This was my Boy-Band Crush!!!!! Roger Taylor was my fav!

  • Loved the hair bands - White Snake, Duran Duran, Bon Jovi, Zeppelin

  • Duran Duran is not a hair band

  • Santa's version was better.

  • I saw these guys in concert in 99 at the Universal Ampitheatre. The concert was awesome even as they get older they are still as good as when they first started out. I really enjoyed watching them perform.

  • The 80's needs to come back...

  • this song is cool, Luv Duran!!!!

  • that bassline rocks

  • This is what music clips are all about ..her name is rio.. and she is yummy

  • WHAT....SHE IS YUMMY....

  • John T. is the man is this song for how he plays the bass. It's just too sick!!! He pulls it off so effortlessly. The bass in Duran Duran songs is what kept me wanting to hear more. Of course Simon voice is great too.

  • I LOVE IT !

  • rio is portugese for river =)

  • What song was better on this album? Pls tell me, if you can, and pls include the year you grad. from hs, it matters-

  • 1 dei migliori canzoni degli anni 80. Duran duran 4ever

  • Her name is rio and she dance on the sand

  • I wonder how they feel about Hedley's It's never too late video?

  • Who cares about the base. Duran Duran were the hottest thing at the time and they gave us all inspiration. Inspiring those of us today who are in our forties and remember them in our teens heading off to an 80's night no Sat night!

  • If I ever get rich, I am so buying one of them suits and a boat, I will sail around the place like at the end of the song :D

  • John Deacon from Queen was also an underrated bass player..I love the Bassline at 2:50

  • YES, JOHN DEACON!

  • The bassline to this song is EPIC

  • ackwon you couldn't be more right on the money! The bass line in this song is ridiculous! John Taylor was a very underrated bass player.

  • right on, i usally pick up on basslines first, and this one just grabs u by throat and won't let go. LONG LIVE the 4 Stringers.

BTW if you play this song with a heavy bass setting on your EQ, your mind will melt, trust me.

  • i am naming my daughter Rio Cadence because of this song. My fiance loves it....i picture her dancing across the beach in a white dress, playing the flute and writing poetry. :]
